Tell me about Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪

I want to visit. Is a week too long? What should I see and do?

by Anonymousreply 12September 30, 2023 3:28 PM

A week is a lot for just Dublin, you should venture out for day trips. Ireland is beautiful but Dublin is just another city. There's a lot to do in Dublin but you're missing out if you don't see some rolling green fields and quaint villages.

What do you like to do, OP? How old arw you, are you gay, are you traveling with other people? What drew you to Dublin?

In Dublin all seems to breathe freedom and peace, and to make one forget the world and its sad turmoils.

Make sure you work in a 1/2 day trip to Paris.

Continent's coke capital currently.

R1 thanks, we are a gay married couple. In our 50s. We don’t need to see the whole of Ireland, this is just a week to get the hell out of our boring town in New England.

Ignore R3's dumb advice, France is a separate trip, Paris deserves at least 3 days, and you're better of staying in Ireland and exploring outside Dublin..

OP, R5, You could visit Dublin and see the major attractions over a weekend, but like R1 advised, venture out of Dublin to see the beauty of the country. Head southwest to Cashel or west to Limerick.

R6 doesn’t get a joke, ever? Read the London trip thread from last week.

I never said you needed "to see the whole of Ireland" but an entire week in Dublin sounds like a wasted opportunity. It's one city and not really the Ireland "experience," but you do you.

R9 I’m not fighting with you, geez.

Wonderful city. 2-3 days in Dublin great . Hotel: Shelbourne or Merrion both nice . The Saddle Room in Shelbourne excellent for lunch or a cocktail in the Bar there. Shanahans on the Green a nice place for dinner . Pubs: o’Donohues, Brazen Head, in the mountains outside the city Johnny Foxes. Wander around Temple Bar. Trinity College Library or National Museum if you like history. See a play or dinner show , hotel concierge can recommend . These are admittedly touristy but I don’t think you will be disappointed.

If you want to go out for a scenic ride -Glendalough via Enniskerry/Powerscourt super nice .

Go take a dip in the ice cold waters of the Irish Sea at Forty Foot, and take a day trip to do the cliff walks in Howth.

(The opening of Ulysses takes place at Forty Foot.)
