Tasteful Friends—or not

An aging Main Line estate, barely updated in any way. My kind of place. Steam heat, tons of built-ins, nursery and servant quarters under the dormers, towering butlers pantry, fireplaces. A place to wander in and absorb the past, imagine the lives of those living here in the beginning. There’s a more updated gate house included that a person could live in before walking up the drive to the big house. I spent some time living in a place like this as a kid. Dream and imagine. I never forgot it.

It's a teardown in a nothing town...... It'll just rot...... I cant imagine the smell.....

I don't know anything about the area. Needs a ton of work, obviously.

The main house has a nice exterior and nice windows, doors, and built-ins. There's a weird cage that looks like it was an elevator at some point. The kitchen looks nice. The bathrooms must really be a mess.

The guest house looks wonky. Like, what the hell is in this photo?

Guest house needs 2 full baths, not 1.5, since it has 4 bedrooms.

Not. I needs 1M worth of repairs. But I can see how nice it might have been at a different time.

A project too far.

Service stairway to laundry R3. You know servants had their own stairs to everything back then.

1 million is underestimating. But it beats the 12 million McMansions down the road.

by Anonymousreply 6September 30, 2023 6:06 AM

R5, but the stairs stop at an interior window. Like you have to jump down 3 feet to reach the floor of that laundry room. Plus, you’d have to crouch down before you jumped.

Dummy, I didn’t say it was absolutely untouched^^. There’s obviously a few, I can’t call them updates, but reducing of space in industrial sized kitchen and extraneous pathways.

Fuck off.

by Anonymousreply 9September 30, 2023 6:21 AM

No, you fuck off.

Lovely house, but way too big for me. The guest house is about the right size, and need much less work. You could live in that while fixing the main house. It looks like there is or has been some roof leaks, I'd want to inspect it to make sure there's no major structural problems.

But it definitely isnt a tear down R1, its not far gone and once its been done it'll be far far nicer than any McMansion, it has potential to be a really stunning house for someone who needs something that big
