This is proof that the people who say NYC will be underwater within 20 years is true. Look how easy it is to flood NYC
This is from fucking rain

What do you expect DL to do? Stitch together our caftans to form a floatation device?

I was able to take the subway in Manhattan early this afternoon, but crosstown bus service across the park was suspended. I walked and Central park was fine. I feel bad for those who had to commute in from the boroughs today. Everywhere seems open, so those workers are going to have a hellish commute home.
MTA was doing their best with the trains, re-routing lines and trying to get people moving.
Stay safe DLers.

There have been ambulances and cop cars driving by with their sirens on all day today here in Downtown Brooklyn. Idk what’s going on but it’s a mess.

Where's Liza?!
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 29, 2023 7:22 PM |
Yeah the problem is a lot of people commuted into work this morning, and they are going to need to get back home to the boroughs from Manhattan.

September really isn't New York's lucky month, is it?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 29, 2023 7:54 PM |
The Gowanus Canal, a Superfund site and one of the most polluted waterways in the country, overflowed and flooded nearby neighborhoods. As usual.
Yet our wonderful politicians have rezoned it to allow even [italic]more[/italic] unchecked development of high-rises right on its banks. What used to be a neighborhood of scattered two-story row houses and light industry is now a huge residential sprawl.
And still, somehow, they get out-of-town suckers to buy these cheap-shit new cardboard condos.
This'll end well, I'm sure.

NYC has been a disaster for years now but we keep pretending otherwise.

The grounds are also saturated from the 4 days of rains the northeast had from last Friday night through Tuesday evening. Looking at the radar I believe the heaviest part of the rains are past now.

R27 oh please. We’ve had rain last days upon days in the past and worse than this. Born and raised here. There is no excuse for this.

R25 I love the irony of a Whole Foods located on the bank of the Gowanus Canal. Only in Brooklyn.

Apparently depending where you live, the rainfall in NYC from Thursday night to Friday night ranged from 4.5 inches to just over 8 inches. The flooding was mostly during two heavy downpour periods, between 8:00am - 9:30am and then again 12:00- 2:00pm. I had basement flooding in the earlier period when about 2 1/2 inches fell in about the span of an hour. He had a similar situation two years ago with Hurricane Ida.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | September 30, 2023 10:01 PM |
That’s intense. The reason it is so bad is most of NYC is marshland. Even in the Heights there are covered up streams that inevitably flood when rains are intense like this

This has happened quite frequently since 1991, but every time it happens the media has amnesia. “How can NY deal with this?” they scream. They just wait until it stops raining, dude.
