The Andie MacDowell Appreciation Thread

Actress, model, advocate, Andie MacDowell wears all of those hats. I’ve enjoyed her on and off screen for many years. Let’s celebrate Andie McD here.

Remember: You’re Worth it.

Whenever I see her in a part, I always think to myself, "why her?"

by Anonymousreply 1September 29, 2023 2:43 PM

The movies' BEST Jane!

by Anonymousreply 2September 29, 2023 2:51 PM

She was great in "Maid." She really convinced me she was a nut case.

r2 it is so trippy to watch that movie and see her speaking as if she is possessed by Glenn

by Anonymousreply 8September 29, 2023 3:48 PM

OP, are you the same nut who started the "She's Jodie Foster" thread?

You like to wear sweaters your mom knits for you, don't you?

by Anonymousreply 9September 29, 2023 4:20 PM

This is going to be a very short thread.

by Anonymousreply 10September 29, 2023 4:22 PM

No r9. I am not responsible for that Jodie Foster thread.

I do have a confession to make… I’m batshit crazy over Shelley Hack!

by Anonymousreply 11September 29, 2023 5:29 PM

I really like Andie a lot.

by Anonymousreply 12September 29, 2023 5:30 PM

I loved her in Four Weddings and a Funeral. I haven't seen it in many years, but I remember liking her a lot.

by Anonymousreply 13September 29, 2023 5:33 PM

She was terrific in sex, lies, and videotape.

by Anonymousreply 14September 29, 2023 5:39 PM

She was the female lead in at least 3 classics - Four Weddings, Sex, Lies and Videotape, and Groundhog Day. How many actresses can say that? And she is as naturally beautiful as any 65 year old around.

by Anonymousreply 15September 29, 2023 5:39 PM

Op again…

Andie made quite an impression on me when I was in high school. I saw Sex, Lies and Videotape and really related to her character. I almost felt like that was me on screen, only female. Anyway…. I used to prank call a nearby grocery store a lot because I felt everyone who worked there was a blithering idiot. One afternoon I rented Sex, Lies & Videotape from a local video store and prank called the grocery store blasting the part of the movie where Andie’s character says to her husband, at first slow and calm and then slow and LOUD “fuck you. FUCK YOOOUUUU”! I then hung up and laughed my ass off. A few hours later I went shopping at the store and while I was checking out I heard the stupid assistant manager telling the checker whose lane I was in “OMG! A crazy woman called the store this morning. She said “fuck you” like she was high. Then hung up. Freaked me out”. It took everything I had inside of me to keep from busting out laughing. I held it until I got out of the store then laughed for a good 20 minutes.

She's got these friends, Dot and Earl, that live at Happy Valley Trailer Court and she just loves them. They got one of those double trailers hooked-together with red velour walls and red shag carpet with plastic runners on it so the carpet don't get messed up and they got a round red bed and it is something. And they got five young-uns and all of them's names starts with a "T" except for the baby and her name's "Angel." And Earl, he's a big ol' boy--his nickname's "Snake" cause he's got a tattoo on his belly: a heart with a snake crawling through it, and Dot, she thinks it's the greatest thing; she's always braggin' about it.

Dot and Earl--they got this dream and they been savin' up. and all Andie hears all the time is "Some day--some day!--we're going to see Atlanta!"

She was good in the movie Green Card from the 90s.

Most of the time I find her borderline amateurish, but there are several films where either the director knew how to use her or she connected with the material well:

Sex, Lies, & Videotape, Unstrung Heroes, Love After Love (probably her best work), Ready Or Not, Maids.

I haven't seen Four Weddings, Green Card, or Groundhog Day in a long time but I do recall thinking she was charming in Green Card. I may watch Dinner With Friends again as I think she was pretty good in that, but overshadowed by Toni Collette.

by Anonymousreply 20September 29, 2023 6:29 PM

Green Card is not a classic? But I was in it!

by Anonymousreply 21September 29, 2023 6:40 PM

Her character’s name in Green Card is Brontë. I love that name.
