Boy, 16, arrested after iconic tree at Hadrian's Wall 'deliberately felled'

Horrible little shit.
A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after one of the most photographed trees in the country was cut down. The tree at Sycamore Gap was made famous when it appeared in the 1991 Kevin Costner film [italic]Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves.[/italic] While the tree was reported to be 300 years old, the National Trust said it was planted between 1860 and 1890.
Northumbria Police said: "This is a world-renowned landmark and the events of today have caused significant shock, sadness and anger throughout the local community and beyond."

Todays youth are seriously just garbage

by Anonymousreply 1September 29, 2023 1:45 PM

Maybe he's an impoverished chimney sweep whose family really needs fire wood.

by Anonymousreply 2September 29, 2023 2:13 PM

White people destroying the environment. Who would have thunk it!

by Anonymousreply 3September 29, 2023 2:43 PM

NAME HIM

by Anonymousreply 4September 29, 2023 5:04 PM

Let the punishment fit the crime.

Chainsaw or axe?

by Anonymousreply 5September 29, 2023 5:17 PM

I’m glad they confirmed with an expert that it is unlikely the tree could be saved.

by Anonymousreply 6September 29, 2023 5:20 PM

Housama Mohamoud Abdulbinrahim

by Anonymousreply 7September 29, 2023 5:26 PM

They’ve now arrested a second male, 60 years old.

by Anonymousreply 8September 29, 2023 8:13 PM

The chatter on Twitter from the UK is mostly of the opinion several individuals were involved, and it may have been the result of a bitter land dispute.

by Anonymousreply 9September 29, 2023 8:15 PM

R1 thinks young people in the past never did anything bad. Lol.

And now that a 60-year-old was arrested, will you be renting against today's 60-year-olds?

by Anonymousreply 10September 29, 2023 8:22 PM

60-something man recruits 16-year-old boy to cut down iconic tree as part of a land dispute... It sounds like the plot of a farcical ITV comedy.

by Anonymousreply 11September 29, 2023 8:22 PM

"O Woodsman spare that tree, touch not a single bough, in youth it sheltered me and I'll protect it now....."

A day late, my friend, a day late.

by Anonymousreply 12September 29, 2023 8:43 PM

It looked like it must have taken more than one person to cut it down. It was a big-ass tree.

by Anonymousreply 13September 29, 2023 8:44 PM

Yeah, I don't see how one person could have cut down that tree.

by Anonymousreply 14September 29, 2023 8:50 PM

r6 You're glad they confirmed it? Why?

by Anonymousreply 15September 29, 2023 8:52 PM

r10 "lol"

by Anonymousreply 16September 29, 2023 8:53 PM

LOCK HIM UP!

by Anonymousreply 17September 29, 2023 10:00 PM
will you be renting against today's 60-year-olds?

Only with a security deposit plus first and last months' rent.

by Anonymousreply 18September 29, 2023 10:03 PM

Hang him from a tree…oh wait

Filthy hetero stink shit!

by Anonymousreply 21October 1, 2023 12:42 AM

A land dispute between what I'm assuming are unprofitable government subsidised sheep farms developing into the felling of a tree is certainly a confusing story.

by Anonymousreply 22October 1, 2023 12:47 AM

No a conspiracy nut but: Could a 16 yo boy lug a chainsaw 2 miles in a rainstorm in the middle of the night and make a near perfect cut on this tree in the dark? Professional hit job. Probably by developers or locals who don't like tourists.

by Anonymousreply 23October 1, 2023 1:15 AM

r23 There's a 61 year old involved as well, and unless its Joel and his neighbour on a holiday to England, I'd guess local farming family with an off terrain vehicle and knowledge of the area. So yeah driving up there with a land rover when its quiet and keeping the headlights on would be pretty easy.

by Anonymousreply 24October 1, 2023 1:36 AM

Joel is way older than 16 now R24.

An ex lumber Jack who had just been evicted from his property said he didn’t do it.

by Anonymousreply 26October 1, 2023 8:37 PM

A 61 one year old homeless ex lumberjack with a seething hatred against famous trees, and his adolescent sidekick. I'd watch this movie.

by Anonymousreply 27October 1, 2023 8:45 PM

Patsy, Edina, and Bubbles strike again! Can’t wait to see how the fashion shoot went.

by Anonymousreply 28October 1, 2023 9:05 PM

How dumb, and tragic.

by Anonymousreply 29October 1, 2023 9:40 PM

Can't they glue it back on?

by Anonymousreply 30October 1, 2023 10:04 PM

Terribly sad and disheartening. The people living in the area must be crestfallen.

by Anonymousreply 31October 2, 2023 6:20 AM

Stupid is as Stupid does.

by Anonymousreply 32October 2, 2023 12:39 PM

Stupid never takes a holiday.
