It was like a soft core version of The Twilight Zone. Page Fletcher as the titular character opened and closed each episode and wore the tightest jeans.
That's not from Hitchhiker, that looks like the very handsome John J York from the 1987 Fox series, Werewolf. I'd recognize his glorious denim clad ass anywhere. Co-starring Chuck Connors it was one of my favorite TV shows of that era.

I thought it was John York too. They look and dress the same and even carry their backpack the same way. Was the Werewolf concept inspired by Hitchhiker?

Not sure if HH inspired WW, but they kind of had a similar feel. HH was on cable and could get away with sex, nudity and violence.
