I'd say 12, 13 at the latest.

by Anonymousreply 2September 28, 2023 1:11 PM

OK, I laughed, r2!

by Anonymousreply 3September 28, 2023 1:14 PM

When I was 9, Mommie Dearest would let me lick the martini stirrer.

by Anonymousreply 6September 28, 2023 1:19 PM

On a bad day it's noon.

On a good day it's 8:00 a.m.

by Anonymousreply 7September 28, 2023 2:12 PM

Depends if I am hungover or not.

by Anonymousreply 8September 28, 2023 2:13 PM

Happy hour is any hour!🍾

by Anonymousreply 9September 28, 2023 2:39 PM

Early? It's September!

by Anonymousreply 10September 28, 2023 4:02 PM

Day off assuming weekend - brunch is fine.

Vacation - anything goes

Work week - NOPE. 5pm and that's if I'm allowing myself a cocktail/s during the week which I usually regret.

by Anonymousreply 11September 28, 2023 4:05 PM

I had my firsht ship of Johnnie Walker the day I wash conshieved! Thanskh mama!👶🍸

by Anonymousreply 12September 28, 2023 4:07 PM

The early and the oftenest, is a sign...

by Anonymousreply 13September 28, 2023 4:13 PM

I recommend right before reading the first DataLounge thread you read daily.

Administer as needed thereafter.

by Anonymousreply 14September 28, 2023 4:27 PM

If you're asking, maybe you shouldn't be drinking...

by Anonymousreply 15September 28, 2023 4:33 PM

If it's a work day, anytime before the work day is over.

If it's not a work day I would say maybe get out of bed and eat something first.

by Anonymousreply 16September 28, 2023 5:00 PM

Under 21 years old.

by Anonymousreply 17September 28, 2023 5:01 PM

I'm going to make dome @r1

by Anonymousreply 18September 28, 2023 5:09 PM

^^sounds like r18 is already hitting the drink.

by Anonymousreply 19September 28, 2023 6:02 PM

It all depends, OP.

If you are hosting weekend guests and are serving brunch from 11 a.m., you might serve your guests Bloody Marys, Scotch sours, Mimosa, champagne or other sparkling wine. If you are serving lunch a light white wine or rose or beer would be nice. For dinner, you should have cocktails an hour before dinner.

by Anonymousreply 20September 28, 2023 6:10 PM

If I had to be honest I could drink as soon as I wake up but I hold off until the afternoon. I’m just so TIRED of the bullshit everywhere around me.

by Anonymousreply 21September 28, 2023 6:16 PM

❤ you r21!

by Anonymousreply 22September 28, 2023 6:29 PM

Leisha at R12, was that before the uppers, or was it downers?

by Anonymousreply 23September 28, 2023 7:26 PM

Mark your calendars: Sunday, October 29.

With Daylight Saving Time you get egg roll!

by Anonymousreply 24September 28, 2023 7:35 PM

Its 5pm somewhere

by Anonymousreply 25September 28, 2023 8:54 PM

Somewhere in the first-trimester of my existence in mother's womb.

by Anonymousreply 26September 29, 2023 5:01 AM

My god. DL is full of lushes.

by Anonymousreply 27September 29, 2023 5:08 AM

Serious answer.

5PM.

5PM the day before you plan on drinking.

That is too early.

by Anonymousreply 28September 29, 2023 5:38 AM

I've given up drinking but God I miss it.

by Anonymousreply 29September 29, 2023 6:04 AM

[quote] I'd say 12, 13 at the latest.

I actually read OP's question this way.

Feels decadent (and fun) to start drinking early in the day. And the hell with limiting it to Bloody Marys and mimosas. Drink vodka on the rocks if that's what you like.

That said, I'm a problem drinker, and those days are over.

by Anonymousreply 30September 29, 2023 6:11 AM

[quote]That said, I'm a problem drinker, and those days are over.

As in “you’ve mastered the art of drinking and now you’re a pro and those days of being a problem drinker are behind you” or “you quit drinking”?

by Anonymousreply 31September 29, 2023 7:03 AM

It’s never too early until the gastritis takes over

by Anonymousreply 32September 29, 2023 7:04 AM

R31, I quit drinking.

by Anonymousreply 33September 29, 2023 7:17 AM

Yeah, chronic pancreatitis for the win here, and i didn't even start drinking til my mid 30s. i'm mid 50s now, so i'm here to say that even if you start drinking late, you can just as easily fuck up your body in a mere 2 decades.

Maybe think about delaying early day drinking and consider not drinking for awhile. Pancreatitis really is very painful.

by Anonymousreply 34September 29, 2023 7:22 AM

You know what dulls pain? A double martini.

by Anonymousreply 35September 29, 2023 8:11 AM

R32 R34 it is quite poisonous. Wish it wasn’t.

by Anonymousreply 36September 29, 2023 8:26 AM

It’s always too early and never the right time.

Never understood the allure. Tried to drink, when socially acceptable, in my 20s. Did so in moderation but quickly learned it is the *only surefire way to make anything and all things worse.

Quit almost entirely when I was 27ish and never regretted it. Might sip on a whiskey once a year with my dad but barely more than wet my lips.

by Anonymousreply 37September 29, 2023 8:27 AM

Cheers darling!

by Anonymousreply 38September 29, 2023 8:52 AM

I invented "Beer for Breakfast Fridays" many years ago.

by Anonymousreply 39September 29, 2023 8:56 AM

I'm the one who wrote that I quit and I miss it. It was wonderful in the evening listening to music and sipping wine or vodka. For me it made loneliness not matter and was a great friend. The thing is I was up to a bottle of wine a night and thought this is not good. Still the loneliness is a gnawing pain always there and there is nothing else in my life to alleviate it. And I have tried ALL the usual suggestions.

by Anonymousreply 40September 29, 2023 10:25 AM

R40 sorry man. I feel for you, truly.

by Anonymousreply 41September 29, 2023 10:31 AM

[quote] Still the loneliness is a gnawing pain always there and there is nothing else in my life to alleviate it.

The first time I had that feeling I was 7 and I'm from a big family. The first time I had a drink in the day, I was 26. I was in a relationship, I adored him, but somehow it wasn't enough. I gulped down some of his Dubonnet(!) and thought to myself 'I'm really fucked now' and I was for 20 years, not by him haha, but the drink. I'm not religious but I long for an experience of the divine.

*spirit against spirit*

Spiritus contra spiritum” literally translates to “spirit against spirit”. Loosely translated, it refers to “a spiritual experience to counter addiction to the spirits (alcoholism).” Spiritus in Latin means both alcoholic beverages, i.e., spirits, and the highest religious experience.

by Anonymousreply 42September 29, 2023 11:39 AM

OP - Obviously, if you never stop then it's never too early to start again.

by Anonymousreply 43September 29, 2023 11:52 AM

I feel bad for those of you who dont drink because when you wake up in the morning its as good as you are going to feel all day.

by Anonymousreply 44September 29, 2023 12:12 PM

[quote]It’s always too early and never the right time

Fuck off. I'm sorry you're too big of a mess to handle your alcohol but that's entirely on you. Stop projecting.

I drink socially, I never binge drink, and I hate drinking alone, even just a beer. I've thrown booze out that's gone bad in my house. I hate the feeling of being very drunk, room spinning, feeling like I'm talking too loud and slurring my words. Hate that and haven't experienced it in 30 years. I know my limits. I am the epitome of a responsible drinker.

by Anonymousreply 45September 29, 2023 2:08 PM

According to The Guardian, breakfast is a good time to start. These are fucking delicious.
