Dead at 82.
He was one of the great British actors. Loved him in Gosford Park.

He had a nice wand, but couldn't live forever.

Article says pneumonia, but I've read that he had Alzheimer's also. Sad.

In the first decade of this century, he seemed to be everywhere, working. He might easily have passed for 82 at the time so it was not a huge surprise to seem him in far fewer things in the last two decades. Harry Potter is that black hole into good actors disappear and collect large sums -- or at least I always forget that X had a big role in the series of films.
He had a marvellous slowness in the way he delivered lines that made you take all the more note, and a voice to match. I took real note of him in a Stephen Poliakof production for BBC2 in 2001, 'Perfect Strangers" (U.S title 'Almost Strangers") and when I think of him it's always of how wonderful he was in that role.

The Dumbledore curse takes another victim. Jude Law should be wary.

I liked him in Sleepy Hollow.
