This song is so good! And while it was a big hit in 1981 (peaking at #2 on the US charts and #10 on the UK charts) it seems forgotten today. This one shouldn’t be left to die from pop culture. It’s too good.
“Slow Hand” (1981) by The Pointer Sisters is so underrated!

A great era for all kinds of music.
That was 1981. Still a seventies feel with a hint of eighties, perfectly blended-together.
By 1983, I hated it because the 80s was here 100% and with its music an overproduced, overwrought mess with few exceptions.

EVERYTHING by the pointers is underrated

Cannot stand that song. "I need a lover with an easy touch". It's been on constant rotation for 40 years. It's overrated as fuck.

Great. The Underrated Troll again, imagining that a great, popular song somehow isn't so in anyone's eyes but hers.
Stupid cunt.

I actually saw the Pointer Sisters in concert (medium-sized enclosed arena) in the early '80s. I think it was free tickets and my expectations were low. I remember being impressed with them. Their voices were on-key, the energy was good, etc.

Btw, the song was written by Michael Clark and John Bettis. Bettis, a lyricist, also wrote:
Crazy for You (Madonna)
Human Nature (Michael Jackson)
Top of the World (The Carpenters)
and on

Op is famous for pop culture naivety

i like them and the instrumental is nice but the main melody in the chorus is very cheesy and doesn't match the vibe of the rest of the song

R12 thank you for your input. It’s of no value whatsoever.

Vastly preferred the Sisters' first two albums when they were singing sorta retro-pop-jazz-showtunes in thrift-shop clothes (see: Yes We Can Can). When they went straight-ahead pop I lost interest.

My 75 yr-old Abuela LOVED that song. Grandma got down!

I want a man with a huge forearm. The kind that goes up inside my holes at night in a heated rush.

I really like the whole Black & White album that Slow Hand came from.
This was the closing track. I saw them live in 1984. They had terrific energy and full command of the crowd.

This song never gets old.

How is it "underrated"? It charted high, it was played a lot and still is played, and people always seemed to like it.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | October 18, 2023 2:26 AM |
R23, is it really still played? I have heard it maybe once here in Chicago on 100.3 FM in the past few years (yes, I still listen to the radio). Regardless, the song is classic.

I think it gets played on some throwback R&B stations but rarely. I only ever hear it on Apple Music when I listen to a specific song and then let it play similar songs.
