Not sure exactly why, but I love all the downvotes and nasty comments in response.

Taylor Swift failed to endorse Hilary Clinton during the 2016 elections. That was when she would've been most useful as her fans were younger and more impressionable. Currently, her fan base is in their late 20's and 30's. Many of them are upper midddle class and live in a bubble. She won't sway any of them either way. It's a case of too little, too late. Here is an article in which she regrets her decision to support Hilary. In a nutshell, she didn't want to alienate her conservative fans. It's all about money with Taylor.

I really don’t think this is going to turn off conservatives or get their panties in a bunch. She’s been outspoken politically before and it doesn’t hurt her fortunes at all. She’s apolitical musically, and is able to sell out football stadiums across the country, including in more conservative leaning cities. Does USA Today honestly think that Taylor Swift has the power to make conservatives vote democrat or to sway elections in any way? Why would anyone look to popular entertainers for real life solutions?

What the reich-wingers are upset about this week is a clip from her upcoming documentary — which has thus far had a massive pre-sale. There is a segment where she is part of a small meeting and she bucks her father who is the one who had suggested that she avoid politics. She gives an impassioned plea why she wasn’t going to go along with that any longer. This was likely from 2020 or 2022. But it is just coming out now, therefore enraging the MAGAts.
She does have the power to register voters and get them to the polls. This should terrify the GQP. Yeah, she wasn’t successful last time in the Tennessee Senate race — but she might be exceptionally helpful this time around in places around the country.

R22, Tennessee is very conservative and she didn't have the influence that she does now in 2018 (when Blackburn last ran). She has a lot of influence over her Swifties, most of whom are young, white women. Influencing 18 YO to vote is great.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | September 27, 2023 11:43 PM |

I don't think anyone expects conservative voters to listen to Taylor Swift or be swayed by her to switch to supporting Democrats. Of course that will never happen.
What's significant about this is that Taylor Swift has a hugely loyal fanbase of predominantly young and overwhelmingly white women, representing a bloc of voters that isn't always directly engaged (and is therefor too apathetic to show up for most elections), as well as a statistically significant number or first-time and unregistered potential voters. Given her previously apolitical stance, there are also probably a lot of unregistered folks in her fanbase who are ripe for political education and activation.

And the power of a popular “pop star” is always greater and more influential than say a popular Hollywood actress. I would say Taylor is even more influential than Queen Bey because of the mere currency of whiteness, at least here in the states.

The right wingers bring up Michelle Obama as President because: 1) they know it will NEVER happen, she has said repeatedly that she would never run for office; and 2) they can appear to be in favor of a black woman.
The light bulb went off for me on this the other day when Ted Cruz was suggesting that MO run for President. It's all about not appearing to be misogynistic or racist--"See, we support a black woman for President" when they know it'll never happen. It's trollery. Seriously? 94 posts thus far and not ONE explicitly states why Repugs are freaking the fuck out? (aside from linked articles) I'll spell it out in two words: Travis Kelce.
Actually, I'm guessing most of you bitches know zilch about pro football, so I'll elaborate. The GOP obviously gave zero fucks when she was engaged to a British actor, but Kelce is the equivalent of a triple-threat: he's a hometown football hero in Ohio (HS & college, in both Cleveland & Cincinnati) AND Missouri (the KC Chiefs) – and by extension Pennsylvania since his brother has played football for the Eagles for 12 years. Two of these three states are still purple politically speaking, and I think it's VERY fucking safe to say that the GOP would have a full-blown meltdown if she starts campaigning for Dems in either OH or PA.
The Chiefs already "trigger" Republicans enough as it is: they have an outspoken mixed-race (and half-Black) QB, and they've played in three of the last four Super Bowls (and won two). Mahomes & Kelce are two of THE highest-profile athletes in America. The fact that Taylor & Travis's *first* date generated literal national headlines (!!) – as opposed to the last guy she dated, the grungy lead singer of The 1975, which was mostly limited to Page Six & Deuxmoi – ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY reflects the potential publicity the duo could readily produce if they keep it going.
THAT is why they're losing it. She's been politically active before, but also never involved with a red-state celebrity athlete. I'd be surprised if she alone managed to flip MO (meaning the presidential vote), but she could definitely impact multiple House races (both state and federal).

[quote]A Christian commentator said that National Football League (NFL) player Travis Kelce and music superstar Taylor Swift should be executed for using their budding relationship as a psy-op to push vaccines on Big Pharma's behalf.
[quote]I think these people should be publicly prosecuted and hung," Christian commentator and activist Morgan Ariel said Wednesday on The Stew Peters Show
I am not surprised that he didn't use the correct word " hanged." Kelce is already " hung."

A right wing Christian called for the deaths of two Americans because of their politics.
The loons and haters can be found in a lot of places. Not just Christian extremists. Within the past week or so on DL one of our liberal posters called for the deaths not of two people but of millions Americans because those Americans voted for Trump.
Hate and idiocy and calling for the deaths of fellow citizens is not found in only one direction.

One person on DL (who might not even be liberal as many in here are pretending to be something they're not) does not in any way equal the daily deluge of death threats hurled towards others by conservatives.
And you're ridiculous and moronic for even suggesting it.

I made it clear it was one poster calling in a self described “brutally honest” way for those millions of American deaths. I made no mention of the many posters here who wish for Trumps death and have said so many times.
The point s that while the world views may change and differ, haters and those calling for the deaths of those they oppose in politics, are seen in both directions you look.
It’s the nature of American political discourse today. Hate.

R112, you're equating posters wishing Trump were dead with conservatives—including politicians like Trump—posting and sending death threats? The latter is overwhelmingly on the Republican side, and has actually become so prevalent that it's one of the reasons Republican politicians either fall into line with the extremists or (like Romney) quit.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | September 29, 2023 1:16 PM |
Romney and others in our govt have had to get additional security because of MAGAts, R112.
Not Dataloungers.
Keep reaching though, sis

I've never wished for Trump's death. That's the easy way out. I want to see him in prison for the rest of his life and all of his assets seized.
I'll be happy when he dies penniless in prison, but I'll settle for penniless and imprisoned... for now.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | September 29, 2023 3:30 PM |
I, also, want him in prison for life. Real prison no home confinement. Death is too easy and quick for that traitor.

Here is my REAL question…..can we not put a stop to the constant death threats? For example, that story on the right wing radio fucktards. Is there NO law on the books to stop that? And if it falls into a gray-zone because of free speech rights (fine), then what do we do with it????
I don’t understand how we can reduce the violence if we are unable to even prevent public death threats. If my memory serves, decades ago when this type of shit would happen, the fucking cops would have gone in to question the radio hosts *immediately* to make sure that they are not an actual threat. Immediately! I think we need to see LEO get their asses back in the game and start investigating each threat *in person* at the place of employment in front of co-workers within 24 hours of a death threat. Sure, the most entrenched assholes will actually enjoy the attention, but I also suspect it will deter those who are not fully radicalized.
Law enforcement needs to go question them, *every* fucking time they make a threat, and the cops need to publicly warn citizens that this is exactly what is going to happen. Put them on notice that when they start these threats, now they’re under the spotlight of law enforcement. If the fucking cops don’t mark their turf, these assholes will continue to ramp up as we head into 2024. And FYI — I despise the cops in so many ways. But this situation is the clearest example of why we need them too.

Yeah, but republicans actually go through with it.

Yes and the left will talk someone to death instead . Or try to. The right is more prone to action and they are of course so much better armed.
by Anonymous | reply 119 | September 29, 2023 5:40 PM |
Be serious, r117. The law “enforcement” and military types AGREE with these death threats. They won’t do fuck all until someone gets hurt then they just shrug.
It doesn’t matter. The popo don’t investigate threats against private citizens. Anyone who has had to deal with a vengeful ex or a stalker knows that.
You’re pretty much on your own, but if you live in a stupid “stand your ground” state and someone does come after you, well, that dumb law applies to us, too.

R112, your false equivalency clearly shows what a MAGAt you are. Donald Trump is not just another politician whose opinions we disagree with. He is a would be autocrat who attempted a coup, sends his lunatic base to attack and threaten people who oppose him (even civilans), and basically says that certain people should be executed for opposing him (e.g., Milley). And trust - if he is reelected, he will make good on those promises. So forgive us for wishing for his death. It's not like we actually threaten him.

R121
No equivalency except for the same thoughts and desires.
I was just pointing out the obvious that we now live in a country where many want those running for political office dead and their supporters dead . It’s the nature of things today. And unlike decades ago.
And as you point out that there is a significant threat to our country and it’s democracy and you are going to do your part by “wishing”.
Most right wingers are full of hot air and tough talk and wishing just like you. Most certainly not all.

Their rage will last as long as the fake relationship.
by Anonymous | reply 123 | September 30, 2023 12:25 PM |
R117 Do you have a small few examples of the police going into investigate a radio host for death threats that have been made ? You make it sound like it was back in the day a fairly common occurrence ( more than 2x)
I never remember that happening even once..
But your suggestion for police and security services to monitor all social media and forums , where most of these threats are made, and to investigate all public threats made seems like a call for one heck of a lot more police and a lot more “ keeping track” of civilians and the comments and threats they make.
by Anonymous | reply 124 | September 30, 2023 2:07 PM |
There will be widespread violence in this country by domestic terrorists . Guaranteed.
Trump supporter shoots peaceful rally-goer.

On the g-d HOUSE floor, Conservatives are freaking out over Taylor Swift instead of working with Democrats to fix important stuff, for the American people.
How can anyone vote for these dumbfucks? If you do, you are also a complete dumbfuck!
"Mark Alford, FWIW, just said on the House floor to a colleague that Taylor Swift was a big distraction.
The House wasn't gaveled in, but we heard his convo from the gallery.
Alford represents east of Kansas City"

[quote]I don’t understand how we can reduce the violence if we are unable to even prevent public death threats.
R117, you are *massively* overreacting here. Obviously no rational person supports death threats, but you're missing that they're exactly that: *threats*. Any individual in even a vaguely high-profile position routinely gets death threats or other massively inappropriate treatment. Further, we'd need a Russia-level internal surveillance network – meaning direct, unwarranted (literally *and* figuratively) listening in on all or nearly all of our voice calls, texts & emails. That's just fine & fucking peachy if you're an old-school Republican who thought the Patriot Act was a good thing, but repulsive to those of us who still support the First Amendment – even when it fucking sucks to do so. (Pre-dating all things Trump, the most troubling free-speech issue for us gays was probably the utterly noxious Fred Phelps - surely burning in Hell if it exists – and all of the hideous "God Hates F*gs" shit they used to protest military funerals.)
[quote]Law enforcement needs to go question them, *every* fucking time they make a threat, and the cops need to publicly warn citizens that this is exactly what is going to happen.
Newsflash: making a death threat IS NOT illegal unless it's a realistic, and independently verified, danger. (Or if it's any type of threat against the sitting president, but that's the ONLY exception SCOTUS has permitted in this area.)The farcically huge amounts of money we spend on police would rise exponentially if we LITERALLY investigated every single thread. (Also, do you seriously think the extreme-right wouldn't figure out this gambit instantly, and start calling in THOUSANDS of total-bullshit "threats" solely in "Democrat-run cities" just to make local officials look bad? They've weaponized far less challenging ideas.)
[quote]If the fucking cops don’t mark their turf, these assholes will continue to ramp up as we head into 2024.
Next year will be colossally fucked regardless of what does or doesn't happen in the interim, and creating a US Stasi equivalent probably wouldn't even help. That said: come on, man. Do you seriously think security at the U.S. Capitol AND every other voting locale – particularly in every purple state from 2020 – hasn't been exponentially increased?
Finally, this is a thread about Taylor Swift FFS, not your internal monologue. The one who's "losing it" on here is you, not MAGAts.
