I LOVE TATUM O NEAL

SHE IS AWESOME

by Anonymousreply 104October 9, 2023 5:51 PM

Not at the Datalounge

by Anonymousreply 1September 24, 2023 7:37 PM

Why, op?

by Anonymousreply 2September 24, 2023 7:53 PM

Who? Never heard of him/her?

Has anyone posted on do before about Tatum?

by Anonymousreply 3September 24, 2023 7:56 PM

I love a good baked potato

by Anonymousreply 4September 24, 2023 7:58 PM

I heard she overdosed again and two of her kids are caring for her. The last OD, she lost capacity to speak read and write. She got speech back but still cannot write or read. She’s such an upset person. I really wish her well. Her father made SO much trouble for her and her brothers. Just SO much trouble.

by Anonymousreply 5September 24, 2023 8:21 PM

Poor Tatum.

by Anonymousreply 6September 24, 2023 8:29 PM

She must have been the O'Neal Troll since we haven't heard from him/her/them in several years.

by Anonymousreply 7September 24, 2023 8:31 PM

She seems like a good person with just a lot of hurt inside. I wish her recovery and peace.

by Anonymousreply 8September 24, 2023 9:10 PM

Has Kristy McNichol reached out to her?

by Anonymousreply 9September 24, 2023 9:15 PM

She is very active on Instagram -- not in terms of posting, but in terms of engaging. Some days as I scroll through my feed I see she's liked every single post.

by Anonymousreply 10September 24, 2023 9:24 PM

I just googled and was shocked to learn she lives in the memory ward of an upscale retirement community. She is only 59.

R10, Tatum likes all of your posts?

by Anonymousreply 12September 24, 2023 9:35 PM

R12, No she doesn't follow me, but I follow her, so I can see when she's liked a post from someone we both follow. Evidently we follow a lot of the same accounts.

I just posted the article from Hollywood Reporter and it mentions that's how she spends her days now -- scrolling through Instagram.

by Anonymousreply 13September 24, 2023 9:39 PM

R13 Got it, thank you.

by Anonymousreply 14September 24, 2023 9:44 PM

So much drama

by Anonymousreply 15September 24, 2023 9:46 PM

I am worried, she needs to go back to this activity. SUPER WORRIED

by Anonymousreply 16September 24, 2023 10:13 PM

She is awesome. She's been through hell, too.

by Anonymousreply 17September 24, 2023 10:36 PM

[quote]She got speech back but still cannot write or read

I don't think she could ever read or write, R5.

by Anonymousreply 18September 24, 2023 11:55 PM

OP, I'm with you. Love Tatum. She has always been a cross between extremely cute and stunningy beautiful. And her voice is fabulous--a trademark voice without any affectation. Her talent is indisputable.

Did I mention I love Tatum?

Here we go

by Anonymousreply 20September 25, 2023 1:14 AM

Big nips on Kristy

by Anonymousreply 21September 25, 2023 1:15 AM

We are very close in age. I loved her too as a kid. There is something very sad about her life. If you see her in interviews, she really seems to be trying to live a better life. But forces, and her own character flaws keeps dragging her down. Her father is truly a monster by all accounts. Absolutely gorgeous when he was young, but a monster.

by Anonymousreply 22September 25, 2023 1:20 AM

I love her, adore her. Always have. She's just the cutest, bravest, most troubled little gal. Her book was a nightmare to read. Her father should be in prison.

This video made me choke up.

I still have a hard time equating the adorable little girl from Paper Moon with what she has become.

by Anonymousreply 24September 25, 2023 1:38 AM

Paper Moon. The Bad News Bears.. Both classics. Enough said.

by Anonymousreply 25September 25, 2023 2:05 AM

TATUM FOREVER!!!

by Anonymousreply 26September 25, 2023 5:49 AM

Agree that Ryan should be in prison with Redmond. He ruined his kids' lives.

Tatum must have somehow managed to be an okay mother in spite of everything because her kids are devoted to her and all seem pretty normal. That means a lot.

by Anonymousreply 27September 25, 2023 10:00 AM

Wasn't she a lesbian for a while?

by Anonymousreply 28September 25, 2023 12:41 PM

Wow, she’s had a tough life.

by Anonymousreply 29September 25, 2023 1:02 PM

It's sad to read that she overdosed. I remember reading in her book that McEnroe once asked (paraphrasing) when he was going to finally be allowed to stop feeling sorry for her because of her childhood. It seems like hers was just too rough to truly overcome.

I really liked her in her appearance on Sex and the City. I hadn't seen her in anything as an adult and thought she was a naturally good actress in that episode.

by Anonymousreply 30September 25, 2023 1:06 PM

R29 I feel really bad for her

by Anonymousreply 31September 25, 2023 1:11 PM

Her mother was Joanna Moore (the original Miss Peggy on the Andy Griffith Show) who also suffered from drug and alcohol problems.

by Anonymousreply 32September 25, 2023 1:27 PM

McEnroe is an asshole. To tell someone who is so traumatized that he’s tired of “feeling sorry for her”. Just a huge jerk from the same mold as her father.

by Anonymousreply 33September 25, 2023 2:09 PM

R30 You should watch the Lifetime classic "Fab five the texas cheerleader scandal". It's amazingly bad!

by Anonymousreply 34September 25, 2023 2:20 PM

She was reared by an asshole. Have heard many times st8 people marry someone who is like their parent of the opposite sex. logically she would marry an asshole. Majority of child actors lead tragic lives. The black girl who acted with her in PM, as wonderful as she was, never acted again. Did she have a better life than TON?

by Anonymousreply 35September 25, 2023 2:27 PM

Isn’t she a crack whore?

by Anonymousreply 36September 25, 2023 2:29 PM

Has Jodie Foster reached out?

by Anonymousreply 37September 25, 2023 2:32 PM

I remember Wendy Williams was a bitch to Tatum on her show and Tatum handled it really well, although you could tell she wasn't happy with the questions.

by Anonymousreply 38September 25, 2023 2:33 PM

I saw her years ago as a kid at the premier of her father's magnum opus, "So Fine." She smiled at me.

by Anonymousreply 39September 25, 2023 2:38 PM

What a sad horrible mess.

by Anonymousreply 40September 25, 2023 2:54 PM

[quote] She is very active on Instagram -- not in terms of posting, but in terms of engaging. Some days as I scroll through my feed I see she's liked every single post.

I wonder if she ever comes on DL.

If you're reading this, Tatum, we love you.

by Anonymousreply 41September 25, 2023 3:00 PM

She was great as Cherie Currie's mom in "The Runaways"

by Anonymousreply 42September 25, 2023 3:03 PM

[quote]But forces, and her own character flaws keeps dragging her down. [quote]She was reared by an asshole

Men didn't raise their children in those days. She and her brothers were NEGLECTED, thus the disfunction. As usually happens, the boys acted out against others, the girl acted out against herself. I blame Joanna Moore and Farrah Fawcett as much as I blame Ryan.

by Anonymousreply 43September 25, 2023 3:09 PM

Every single person in her life dropped the ball. All the balls. Criminal negligence and abuse of a child on a scale that defies human understanding.

Except Cher. I wish Cher had adopted Tatum.

by Anonymousreply 44September 25, 2023 6:25 PM

R44 No doubt she was the victim of terrible parents but I it's hard not to drop the ball on addicts.

by Anonymousreply 45September 25, 2023 8:04 PM

It's okay to drop the ball on your 3 year old, your 7 year old, your 15 year old? I'm talking about age zero to 18. Tatum was a child who had to raise herself in a vacuum. She was basically feral.

by Anonymousreply 46September 25, 2023 8:33 PM

I think she does the best she can do.

by Anonymousreply 47September 25, 2023 8:34 PM

[quote] I blame Joanna Moore and Farrah Fawcett as much as I blame Ryan.

I think Joanna Moore was a major prescription junkie and was way too gone to be there for her kids. Farrah and Ryan were too obsessed with themselves, each other and coke to pay attention.

by Anonymousreply 48September 25, 2023 8:52 PM

She was quite good on that SATC episode. Looked good, too. My memory is fuzzy but I swear she and Ryan had a cringy reality show.

by Anonymousreply 49September 25, 2023 8:59 PM

Yet all through the years she seems to make excuses for Ryan.

by Anonymousreply 50September 25, 2023 9:15 PM

[quote]The black girl who acted with her in PM, as wonderful as she was, never acted again.

That's because she tried to push Madeline out a window in Little Rock.

by Anonymousreply 51September 25, 2023 9:25 PM

Melanie Griffith is so gross. She took Tatum to an orgy when she was ~12 years old and this was while she was also banging/dating Ryan.

by Anonymousreply 52September 25, 2023 10:15 PM

[quote]The black girl who acted with her in PM, as wonderful as she was, never acted again.

That's because she wasn't an actress to begin with, just a local Bogdanovich picked to do the role.

by Anonymousreply 53September 25, 2023 10:29 PM

I like her. She never had a chance. Exploited as a cute kid. Most of those Malibu Hollywood kids from the 60’s -70’s are just fucked up.

by Anonymousreply 54September 25, 2023 11:09 PM

her kids seem normal?

by Anonymousreply 55September 26, 2023 2:32 AM

[quote] McEnroe is an asshole. To tell someone who is so traumatized that he’s tired of “feeling sorry for her”. Just a huge jerk from the same mold as her father.

That's not what he said. It was more "when was he going to finally be allowed to stop feeling sorry for her because of her childhood."

Not to defend John, as I'm sure he was a major asshole in many ways, but I think in this particular context, it's a reaction to having to excuse bad behavior (i.e. drug taking). I'm sure Tatum would get high, fuck up, and then cry to John that she couldn't help it because of her upbringing. If you live with an addict, after a while you get tired of the excuses. Because they never want to take responsibility. It's always someone else's fault that they drink or do drugs. We all have fucked-up childhoods to a degree. We've all dealt with disappointment and rejection and being treated like shit. But there comes a time that you have to learn to function in the real world as an adult, especially if you have others who depend on you. It's very difficult, I know, but you have to learn how to conquer your demons. And if you can't, it's unfair to expect your loved ones to put up with that behavior indefinitely.

by Anonymousreply 56September 26, 2023 3:08 AM

[quote]She never had a chance. Exploited as a cute kid.

Leaving the hellhole with her mother and getting into Paper Moon was the best move she could have made at age 9. Staying in show biz was not a wise idea.

by Anonymousreply 57September 26, 2023 1:13 PM

Why would people blame Farah for Tatum, she didn't get with Ryan until Tatum was 15 or 16 years old. Tatum wasn't her responsability. Redmond on the other hand...

by Anonymousreply 58September 26, 2023 4:15 PM

Who is blaming Farrah for Tatum, R58???

by Anonymousreply 59September 26, 2023 5:05 PM

I drove by Farrah’s grave today. It just had a name on her stone. Nothing else. Weird.

by Anonymousreply 60September 26, 2023 10:23 PM

R58, Farrah was a vain and selfish bitch who could have tried to help Tatum. She could have at least encouraged RO to be a better father. Maybe she did, but that's not the impression I get. In any event, if you're in a relationship with someone who has kids, you have a responsibility to them, like it or not. Do your best to be kind to the kids, and help them if you can. Farrah was too busy fucking and fighting with her man to be bothered with his kids. Bitch.

by Anonymousreply 61September 26, 2023 11:02 PM

Hear, hear, R61. Farrah and Ryan were absolute fuckwads. Totally into themselves, and should not have procreated. Farrah should TOTALLY have taken Tatum into her bosom, but she didn't. Ryan should have seen that as a red flag, but he didn't. All the adults in the equation FUCKING SUCKED.

I willl never not feel outrage about the way Tatum O'Neal was raised.

by Anonymousreply 62September 26, 2023 11:12 PM

It’s almost like Farrah and Ryan got off on denying Tatum any affection or love. Junkies in love....

by Anonymousreply 63September 26, 2023 11:20 PM

Oops wow sorry

by Anonymousreply 64September 26, 2023 11:21 PM

Nevermind - Datalounge temporarily got confused and put a Billy Idol comment here. It's gone now.

by Anonymousreply 65September 26, 2023 11:23 PM

To be honest, I prefer Tatum to some of my own children.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 66September 26, 2023 11:46 PM

R61, Ryan LEFT his teenage children because of his new relationship with Farrah. Fuck you, I have something else to do. Airhead Farrah, "okay."

by Anonymousreply 67September 26, 2023 11:55 PM

[quote]Farrah should TOTALLY have taken Tatum into her bosom

Very small implants by today's standards, so it wouldn't have worked

by Anonymousreply 68September 26, 2023 11:57 PM

Tatum O'Neal is still alive?

by Anonymousreply 69September 26, 2023 11:59 PM

R62, birds of a feather. When I hear people talk about what a "good" person, I just think "would a good person stay with someone like Ryan O'Neal for decades?" I know there are obviously victims of domestic abuse that stay with their husbands/wives but that's not what this was, this was someone willfully choosing to stay with a man she knew was a piece of shit.

by Anonymousreply 70September 27, 2023 12:28 AM

I don’t know. Farrah was a bit of an enigma.

I always liked Tatum’s voice when she was younger. It had this super appealing gentle huskiness to it.

by Anonymousreply 71September 27, 2023 12:48 AM

Do not discount that Ryan and Farrah were high all the time.

by Anonymousreply 72September 27, 2023 12:51 PM

OP her last name is O'Neal

by Anonymousreply 73September 27, 2023 1:37 PM

The adults around her when she was growing up were abusing or abandoning her. You never recover from that. She will be ill for the rest of her life and nothing can be done about it. There will always be that terrible hurt and void and it's too late. They make excuses for their bad behavior but there is nothing that can be done. There will always be a relapse. Somehow her brother who is still with anger towards his father escaped and made a decent life for himself(as far as I know.) But then he didn't win an Oscar at an obscenely young age embittering and enraging a narcissistic actor like his father. Winning that award made things worse for Tatum.

by Anonymousreply 74September 27, 2023 1:54 PM

Ryan is such a creep.

[quote] "I had just put the casket in the hearse and I was watching it drive away when a beautiful blonde woman comes up and embraces me," Ryan told me. "I said to her, 'You have a drink on you? You have a car?' She said, 'Daddy, it's me--Tatum!' I was just trying to be funny with a strange Swedish woman, and it's my daughter. It's so sick."

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 75September 27, 2023 2:53 PM

Then later, Ryan claimed that Tatum made up this story, wanting us to somehow forget that HE was the source! Can you see why he fucked up his kids so badly? Imagine being gaslit like that by your own father.

by Anonymousreply 76September 27, 2023 5:19 PM

[quote] I drove by Farrah’s grave today. It just had a name on her stone. Nothing else. Weird.

You "drove" by it? You mean you went in and looked for it, deliberately.

by Anonymousreply 77September 27, 2023 5:40 PM

R76, he is such an asshole.

by Anonymousreply 78September 27, 2023 6:19 PM

ummm

by Anonymousreply 79September 27, 2023 8:41 PM

I liked Ryan in several movies - Paper Moon, Barry Lyndon and What's up Doc - and still do. It is possible to separate the screen person from the real one.

by Anonymousreply 80September 27, 2023 9:07 PM

r79 your point?

by Anonymousreply 81September 27, 2023 9:12 PM

Yes he was very appealing on film. Like George Peppard. Total jerks in real life. Patricia O'Neal hated working with Peppard in Tiffany's. When Hepburn talks about the men she worked with he is never mentioned and it is one of her most famous films. And Elizabeth Ashley has some horror stories about him in her auto bio. But he could really turn on the charm.

by Anonymousreply 82September 27, 2023 11:17 PM

What’s Tatum precious?

by Anonymousreply 83September 27, 2023 11:23 PM

[quote]Patricia O'Neal hated working with Peppard in Tiffany's

Might you mean Patricia NEAL, R82? To get that wrong...tsk tsk. Patricia Neal is a gay icon. George Peppard. not much.

by Anonymousreply 84September 27, 2023 11:51 PM

Patricia and Tatum and Eugene are the greatest O'Neals.

by Anonymousreply 85September 28, 2023 12:23 AM

Joan Collins said that George Peppard was one of the worst actors she ever had to work with - total raging asshole.

by Anonymousreply 86September 28, 2023 12:27 AM

Well, Joan IS a connoisseur of bad acting.

by Anonymousreply 87September 28, 2023 1:22 AM

Someone should start a thread good ol’ George. I’d like to hear the gossip.

by Anonymousreply 88September 28, 2023 1:31 AM

Everyone thought Peppard was a jerk including me. He was at the Avco in Westwood one afternoon talking out loud with his companion and carrying on during the movie. Somebody shushed them and he yelled back, Fuck off, laughed out loud and continued to behave like an ass. In the mid 80's.

by Anonymousreply 89September 28, 2023 1:35 AM

I thought she was hysterical in Rescue Me, but I suspect she wasn't acting. She would be a nightmare to be involved with, on any level. Still, I love her too.

by Anonymousreply 90September 28, 2023 1:35 AM

I've always felt sorry for her, considering the shitty parents she had.

by Anonymousreply 91September 28, 2023 1:57 AM

Drugs destroyed so many lives in this family

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 92September 28, 2023 3:46 AM

Ryan was like far too many "Hollywood" parents. He was only interested in himself and his career. So many actors are complete narcissists. If God was real Ryan O'Neal and Joanna Moore would have both been born sterile.

by Anonymousreply 93September 28, 2023 8:43 PM

She’s incredible. I always liked her and thought she has a great natural beauty: light eyes, dark lashes, freckles. What she and Griffin went through living with their mom sounds close to deprivation-worse than neglect. I’m glad her kids didn’t abandon her, she did something right. It does sound sad how desperate she is, and always has been, for a relationship with her dad. My mother was like that with her mother, who could barely be bothered. I guess I’m tougher. I avoid my greatly reduced family. They’re not good for me.

by Anonymousreply 94September 28, 2023 9:44 PM

She’s shit.

by Anonymousreply 95September 28, 2023 9:46 PM

Then you must have been disappointed when Tatum got nose thinning surgery, R94.

by Anonymousreply 96September 28, 2023 10:13 PM

No, r77 anyone can drive right by Farrah’s grave. It’s on a road in a very small cemetery off of Wiltshire you can see it close to the car. . I wasn’t looking for her grave- I was there to drive a visitor past Hefner and Marilyn Monroe’s graves

by Anonymousreply 97September 29, 2023 2:47 AM

* sorry, Hef and Monroe are in the wall not graves. -I am r97

by Anonymousreply 98September 29, 2023 3:39 AM

Hef’s last creepy move was buying that crypt.

by Anonymousreply 99September 29, 2023 7:35 AM

R96 That wasn't surgery, darling. That was flesh eating cocaine.

by Anonymousreply 100September 30, 2023 12:53 AM

Farrah as a step mother never stepped up and almost encouraged Ryan's poor parenthood. Somehow Tatum still seems to have a soft spot for her nasty abusive father.

by Anonymousreply 101September 30, 2023 4:28 AM

Tatum is a nice person with a seriously troubled past. It's amazing she's still alive. Her brother who was NOT raised by Ryan turned out somewhat normally and is a sportscaster. WEHT Redmond?

by Anonymousreply 102October 1, 2023 12:44 AM

Redmond is rotting away in a psychiatric prison for attempted murder while on meth and coke.

by Anonymousreply 103October 4, 2023 1:05 AM

Dark.
