This Poor Little Black Girl - Denied her Medal by Irish Karen

Shame on Ireland Gymnastics

by Anonymousreply 61September 26, 2023 1:45 PM

See-mone is exhausting.

by Anonymousreply 1September 24, 2023 5:28 PM

Sometimes, it's not racism and just a mistake.

Other times, you know it's racism masquerading as a mistake.

You don't just skip over someone "accidentally" if you're handing out medals when there's no reason to go in any order and everyone is supposed to get one.

by Anonymousreply 2September 24, 2023 6:12 PM

The bitch left the podium with one fucking medal stuck to her greasy hand. Well hello bitch, there is a little girl missing a medal, dumb cunt!

So pissed about this story

by Anonymousreply 3September 24, 2023 6:28 PM

Racist old bitch. Some people never change.

by Anonymousreply 4September 24, 2023 6:46 PM

R1

No, racists are exhausting.

by Anonymousreply 5September 24, 2023 6:55 PM

The Irish Federation really effed this up and are trying to get out of this. BBC News is carrying it with both Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles trying to locate the girl to give her encouragement. The girls family wants to have the video taken down as they fear they will be the targets of harassment.

by Anonymousreply 6September 24, 2023 7:06 PM

R1 Racism is exhausting.

I wish white people were sick of doing it as much as they are sick of hearing it.

by Anonymousreply 7September 24, 2023 7:11 PM

Keep the video but next time blur the faces. What was the reason given for this shameful incident?

by Anonymousreply 8September 24, 2023 7:27 PM

Marjorie Taylor Greene has entered the conversation at r10.

by Anonymousreply 11September 24, 2023 7:51 PM

[quote]A white woman won Miss Universe Zimbabwe this year and black women are pissed. Then, should a black person win a medal for an Irish team?

Not only is your whataboutism lazy, R10 but your comparison of a subjective beauty contest to an athletic event where the participants objectively earn points based on technical performance is absolutely moronic.

by Anonymousreply 12September 24, 2023 7:59 PM

Plus, they were participation medals. Everyone on the team was acknowledged before the crowd and peers. Except the black girl who had to had to be chased down once someone noticed Karen's "mistake."

Jesus, let's all use our meager F&F allotment on the racist freak who has no appreciable activity in his prefrontal cortex.

by Anonymousreply 14September 24, 2023 8:44 PM

[quote][R12], My point was that if white people don't belong in Zimbabwe, then black people don't belong in Ireland

R13 I think your point should be that racist assholes come in all colors, and are found in all parts of the world.

by Anonymousreply 15September 24, 2023 8:47 PM

Horrible people in real life and on-line

by Anonymousreply 16September 24, 2023 9:21 PM

Wow - this makes me ashamed to be 1/4 Irish. It seems that some were participation medals so every girl should have received one.

by Anonymousreply 17September 24, 2023 9:48 PM

[quote]Wow - this makes me ashamed to be 1/4 Irish.

Just amputate your legs below your knees. Problem solved, dear.

by Anonymousreply 18September 24, 2023 10:06 PM

This was deliberate. Back in the 70s Dublin establishments were displaying swastikas.

by Anonymousreply 19September 24, 2023 10:19 PM

Gee, r9, ya think they actually might have a REASON?

by Anonymousreply 20September 24, 2023 10:21 PM

Does she have a GoFundMe yet?

by Anonymousreply 21September 24, 2023 10:21 PM

R10, You win a medal. Guess WTF for.

A birthplace does not denote color, no matter its commonality.

But cutting to the racist chase, the Black girl WAS ALREADY ON THE TEAM. She therefore---and without argument or excuse or "she got it later" stupidities---deserved to receive her medal WITH her teammates, BEFORE the fans, and BY the awarding Official.

And a "To Whom It Concerns" salutation does not indicate a sincere apology is to follow.

by Anonymousreply 22September 24, 2023 10:33 PM

That sweet little girl just standing there while she gets passed over. So awful.

Disgusting behavior.

by Anonymousreply 23September 24, 2023 10:41 PM

R19 can you elaborate? I am shocked because I thought that the people of Ireland were at one point treated very badly and enslaved? Why would they put a girl down like that? Wow. I did hear about an Irish actor saying if a black man assaulted a woman that he would kill him? I’m trying to remember the incident. Are there few people of other ethnicities except white catholic in Ireland?

The horrible woman looked right at her and passed the girl by. WTF! Those types of racists will do that just to get the girl to react so they can say she is violent or mentally unstable. DISGUSTING

by Anonymousreply 24September 24, 2023 10:43 PM

R24, Not much to add. I was there for a couple days and saw what I wrote.

I don't think the Irish (and my paternal side is from County Donegal) were enslaved, but I also don't care enough to Google!

by Anonymousreply 25September 24, 2023 10:48 PM

Were the swastikas more about anti-British sentiment? Ireland remained neutral during WWII. I'm sure there were many reasons for it, but I've read mistrust of the British and the thought being allied with former enslavers was unpalatable.

by Anonymousreply 26September 24, 2023 11:21 PM

So no answers in 8 hrs? I did not mean to be disrespectful.

by Anonymousreply 27September 25, 2023 6:44 AM

“Irish gymnastics” sounds like something done at 3am on the side of a road.

by Anonymousreply 28September 25, 2023 8:01 AM

R24 Just look at the brilliant Bernadette Devlin McAliskey in the 70’s.

When she came to the US and saw how the Irish were treating black people, she called them out. When she was given the keys to the city, she gave it to the Black Panthers.

R27, I was a tourist for a few days, not a historian doing research, FGS. I have nothing to add to either my observations or this discourse.

Search elsewhere.

by Anonymousreply 30September 25, 2023 3:09 PM

It was very deliberate. It is a by the numbers microaggression. What really bothers me is this old bitch is a racist, whatever, but how low do you have to be to embarrass an eight year old? Now this old cunt is international news, will get hate mail and she’ll make bank crying about cancel culture on every nazi news channel.

by Anonymousreply 31September 25, 2023 4:26 PM

Where is the video?

by Anonymousreply 32September 25, 2023 4:38 PM

Here’s the video R32 —I just noticed how the two white girls on each side of the Black gymnast are visibly concerned about what’s happened.

by Anonymousreply 33September 25, 2023 5:08 PM

Her little face. This is really sad.

by Anonymousreply 34September 25, 2023 5:57 PM

Bullshit, R19.

by Anonymousreply 35September 25, 2023 6:01 PM

The photographer instantly realized what was happening. Why wasn't he the adult in the room and force Karen to correct her slight immediately?

Also I would like to see the photos he shot of those girls. They all realized what was happening and were upset.

by Anonymousreply 36September 25, 2023 6:04 PM

Is that what they call 'Black Irish'?

by Anonymousreply 37September 25, 2023 6:06 PM

It's being reported that the woman who denied the girl her medal wrote a long apology letter to the girl and her family LAST YEAR after the incident and the Irish Federation withheld it.

by Anonymousreply 38September 25, 2023 6:39 PM

Seemed deliberate. As in the Karen couldn't even register that a black girl was standing there.

by Anonymousreply 39September 25, 2023 6:42 PM

I wasn't asking you, r22/25 You'll notice I didn't tag you at r26, meaning it was a question for all participants on this thread. You are not the only person here who can be a source of knowledge.

by Anonymousreply 40September 25, 2023 6:51 PM

So, this is last year's news? Why post it now, OP?

by Anonymousreply 41September 25, 2023 7:11 PM

R40, I was the only one to mention the symbol, so whatever.

by Anonymousreply 42September 25, 2023 7:34 PM

R41 The timing of it is what bothers you?

by Anonymousreply 43September 25, 2023 7:43 PM

Racism exists in Irish culture, but the culture is not overtly racist. Never heard of swastikas in Ireland and a google search shows nothing about it. Most of the Irish I've met have been fairly progressive and anti-racist. All of them that I know loathe Trump and his followers.

Having said that, this is clearly an example of racism.

by Anonymousreply 44September 25, 2023 8:03 PM

[quote]So no answers in 8 hrs? I did not mean to be disrespectful.

What the fuck is wrong with you?

Every post you made in this thread makes you sound like a fucking lunatic, do you know that?

by Anonymousreply 45September 25, 2023 8:07 PM

Gretchen: Stop trying to equate “Irish slavery” (which is not a thing) with chattel slavery. You’re wrong six ways to Sunday.

by Anonymousreply 46September 25, 2023 8:23 PM

That wasn't a mistake. What a vile woman.

by Anonymousreply 47September 25, 2023 8:33 PM

There were Irish indentured servants in the colonies. No, it's not the same as chattel slavery but it is horrible. However, the Vikings did enslave the Irish and there was a huge slave market in Dublin. IYKYK

by Anonymousreply 48September 25, 2023 9:12 PM

R48 —reporting from the faux Celtic branch of Klan Grannies, 2nd Division.

Stop now. Full stop.

by Anonymousreply 49September 25, 2023 9:30 PM

Slavery was never a big thing for the Irish. Indentured servitude was nothing like slavery. Whatever the Vikings did was long ago and fleeting. It's what the English did to the Irish, systemically and over many centuries, that was the real source of oppression.

They were invaded, colonized, subjugated, disenfranchised and wholly excluded from public life and political power, driven off of their lands, forced to pay English and Scottish (so-called "Ulster Scots") landlords to exist in their native land, had their native religion outlawed and risked imprisonment and death to practice it, and finally they starved to death during famines that only affected potatoes, the only crop they were allowed to eat, while wheat and corn and plenty of meat and dairy left Ireland to feed English mouths as Ireland starved.

Nothing to do with "slavery" so stop comparing the two. American slavery for African Americans was a brutal regime without comparison. What the Irish suffered was also brutal and lacks comparison. There is no point to comparing the two, and conflating their experiences does nothing to address what caused them.

by Anonymousreply 50September 25, 2023 9:56 PM

My facts in R48 trouble you?

by Anonymousreply 51September 25, 2023 9:59 PM

You reported no facts, just your self-justified bigoted jibberish. Don’t even try—go straight to hell R48, do not pass Go and do not collect $200.

by Anonymousreply 52September 25, 2023 10:09 PM

Your "facts" are dumb. Indentured servitude happened to Irish immigrants in the United States - Irish Americans. It's completely irrelevant when discussing these racists on display in Ireland today, that wasn't their history.

It's like saying the internment of Japanese Americans and immigrants in the US was part of Japan's history -- it wasn't. It's Japanese American and American history that had no affect on Japanese in Japan today.

by Anonymousreply 53September 25, 2023 10:10 PM

You're unhinged R52, etc, and you're assuming I am other posters I this thread. Sad. Misery isn't binary. It's a sliding scale. Because Africans had it horrible in slavery does not cancel out all the other suffering in the history of humanity.

by Anonymousreply 54September 26, 2023 12:48 AM

The Viking most definitely took Irish slaves. You are a troll and ignorant about any history that doesn't correspond to your agenda.

by Anonymousreply 55September 26, 2023 12:50 AM

You “historians” don’t know your ass from your elbow.

by Anonymousreply 56September 26, 2023 12:52 AM

[QUOTE]Every post you made in this thread makes you sound like a fucking lunatic, do you know that?

Really? Explain, please. I made an inquiry and sincerely asked for a response. Now, since you believe either I or the basis for my question is illegitimate or entirely inappropriate, it's incumbent YOU to explain rather than relying on Trumpian tactics when clearly "every fucking post" is not what you claim it is.

Fascist misinformation everywhere.

by Anonymousreply 57September 26, 2023 1:16 AM

If the Irish indentured servants had it so bad in America how did they end up becoming plantation overseers and cops? Not to mention some of the biggest fucking racists in America these days are of Irish descent. Bannon, o’Reilley, Hannity to name but a few.

You know zero about American chattel slavery. So cram it.

by Anonymousreply 58September 26, 2023 6:54 AM

Guys, you can ignore the trolls bleating about vikings and "irish slaves." The one loon in this thread is definitely worth a block.

I'm Irish American and I think I know the history of our people pretty well, and nothing we experienced in the US approaches what African slaves endured, or the history of racism and violence that persists to this day against black people. It's ludicrous to compare the two, and anyone insisting that they are comparable is either a crazy person or a bigot with an agenda to push.

by Anonymousreply 59September 26, 2023 12:51 PM

[quote][R41] The timing of it is what bothers you?

No, the fact that anyone with a brain knows exactly what OP was doing when he posted this (last year's) news.

by Anonymousreply 60September 26, 2023 1:38 PM

R60 the Daily Fail posted it this weekend as one of their top news stories.
