These Damn Love Bugs Are Driving Me Nuts

Summer house in coastal Georgia, and these fuckers (literally) are all over me when I go outside. In case you're not affected by them (we weren't until a hurricane came through a few years ago from the Gulf and swept them up here), they're little bugs who fly around while in coital embrace, always ass to ass.

I've taken to swathing myself in bug spray every time I go outside. Between the love bugs and the gnats I'm about over it. I'll have to put up with until go back home where I'm above the gnat line, and the love bug line.

I'm gettin' too old for this crud.

Was this just a cute way to brag about your summer house?

by Anonymousreply 1September 24, 2023 1:38 AM

Hon, it's just a house, not a palace. It's nothing to brag about.

Are the love bugs named Herbie?

by Anonymousreply 3September 24, 2023 1:39 AM

I'm thinking of buying one of those bug electrocutors. I want to hear it fry those bastards.

They sound awful. I think Hurricane Katrina led to the resurgence of bed bugs.

Whack it.

It was Irma that brought them up to Georgia in 2017. They weren't so bad last year or the year before, but they have come back in force this year.

by Anonymousreply 7September 24, 2023 1:49 AM

They're not too bad here, OP -- yet. But the mosquitoes are starting to be a problem.

It doesn't help that my yard ends in -- you guessed it -- some swampland (I'd like to sell you).

Sinatra singing with lyric's changed spelling: CUM fly with me...

OP: Never visit Tucson in the summer. Male cicadas give off what could be called a deafening metallic mating call. Damn horny insects!

Dollface thread?

I grew up in a love bug area , they are here in spring and fall. We have to wash our cars several times a week because they die and eat thru the paint, their little bodies are caustic. We also get these! I hate them!

I love Georgia's Golden Isles

Oh honey it's rough all over. Greenhead flies in Sea Girt, horseflies on the Vineyard, black flies at my camp on Upper Saint Regis Lake AND my Bar Harbor cottage.

I don't even need to go out of town for that. This is the south, and we have cicadas (not the 17 year kind, but the every year kind). Every evening they scream like banshees and I find their split open carapaces stuck to the sides of trees and the bricks on my house every day.

No, I'm farther inland, right on the Ogeechee River and just a few miles from the Savannah River. Literally out in the woods with only one neighbor across the road. Absolute peace and quiet. I've done the beach house routine before. Too many people, too much noise, too much hullabaloo.

But I get your love for the Golden Isles of Georgia. Cumberland, Ossabaw, Sapelo, St. Catherines, are my favorites. Absolute peace and tranquility. National treasures.
