Desi never got credit for being ILL's Man Behind the Curtain a la Wizard of Oz. Lucy has never been acknowledged for greenlighting Star Trek when she ran Desilu.

by Anonymousreply 8September 25, 2023 12:51 PM

I recognize St Vivian and Lucy's mom DeeDee, but not many others.

What year was this?

by Anonymousreply 9September 25, 2023 1:23 PM

It looks like 1956 or so, based on the kids' ages r9.

by Anonymousreply 10September 25, 2023 1:24 PM

Generous Ricky paid for all the food and beverages...

Gary Morton advised Lucy against it

by Anonymousreply 11September 25, 2023 1:28 PM

I wonder if the black woman holding Desi Jr is Lucy's longtime maid and housekeeper Willie Mae? '

by Anonymousreply 12September 25, 2023 1:30 PM

Sitting in the back I hope, r12

by Anonymousreply 13September 25, 2023 1:32 PM

Lucy is wearing a heavy Winter coat.

Viv is wearing shorts.

Where they at the same picnic?

by Anonymousreply 14September 25, 2023 1:33 PM

The wild sex with Phil was too hot to handle, r14

by Anonymousreply 15September 25, 2023 1:36 PM

Is that also Viv in the red strip blouse?

by Anonymousreply 16September 25, 2023 2:35 PM

I don't think so, r16

by Anonymousreply 17September 25, 2023 2:39 PM

Way too attrative and svelte to be Viv, r16.

by Anonymousreply 18September 25, 2023 4:10 PM

^ As if you'd know, you ill-tempered old drunk with your pants around pulled up your tits!

(You think, we don't all know you're in the basement drinking when you're supposed to be working on the furnace.)

by Anonymousreply 19September 25, 2023 4:48 PM

I think Vivian was what they call a freak.

by Anonymousreply 20September 25, 2023 5:04 PM

[quote]Is that also Viv in the red strip blouse?

What? Viv worked the pole too?

by Anonymousreply 21September 25, 2023 5:24 PM

Gary was going to go but Gary talked himself out of it.

R2, Lucy has very much been acknowledged for her role in bringing Star Trek to the air. In fact, her input is probably exaggerated.

Likewise, Desi's contributions to the art of the sitcom and TV production are known, if not so much by the general public then by those in the industry.

by Anonymousreply 23September 25, 2023 5:42 PM

[quote]her input is probably exaggerated.

She didn't have input on Star Trek or Mission:Impossible. She didn't understand either show. She was responsible for giving them the go ahead..

by Anonymousreply 24September 25, 2023 5:47 PM

^ and in fairness, Lucy did use her production money from the network to develop these series, whereas most stars treat their production money as a bonus

But Lucy knew that Desilu had become a "rental lot" that had very few of its own hit series, and made most of its revenue from the rental of the studio space for other shows..

and she knew she had to create some hit Desilu shows if she were going to get top dollar for the studio when she sold it

and to her credit, her strategy worked - she sold Desilu to Gulf and Western in 1967 for about $17 million IIRC

by Anonymousreply 25September 25, 2023 5:53 PM

Lol r21

by Anonymousreply 26September 25, 2023 9:07 PM

r25 $17 million adjusted for inflation, or $17 million in 1967?

by Anonymousreply 27September 26, 2023 1:36 AM

[quote]Both Ball and Arnaz owned a majority stake in DesiLu until 1962 when Ball bought out Arnaz and ran the company by herself for seven years. She sold her shares of Desilu to Gulf + Western (later Paramount Television) for $17 million (a value of $132 million in 2020) in 1968.

$17 million USD in 1967

by Anonymousreply 28September 26, 2023 8:17 AM

*1968

by Anonymousreply 29September 26, 2023 8:18 AM

Wow, that would be around $153,000,000 adjusted for inflation.

by Anonymousreply 30September 27, 2023 1:05 AM

Do you guys ever talk about anything other than money?

by Anonymousreply 31September 27, 2023 1:24 AM

Yes, r31.

We also talk about Cesar Romero allegedly blowing Desi.
