Enjoy, bitches!
Desi never got credit for being ILL's Man Behind the Curtain a la Wizard of Oz. Lucy has never been acknowledged for greenlighting Star Trek when she ran Desilu.

R2, Lucy has very much been acknowledged for her role in bringing Star Trek to the air. In fact, her input is probably exaggerated.
Likewise, Desi's contributions to the art of the sitcom and TV production are known, if not so much by the general public then by those in the industry.

[quote]her input is probably exaggerated.
She didn't have input on Star Trek or Mission:Impossible. She didn't understand either show. She was responsible for giving them the go ahead..

^ and in fairness, Lucy did use her production money from the network to develop these series, whereas most stars treat their production money as a bonus
But Lucy knew that Desilu had become a "rental lot" that had very few of its own hit series, and made most of its revenue from the rental of the studio space for other shows..
and she knew she had to create some hit Desilu shows if she were going to get top dollar for the studio when she sold it
and to her credit, her strategy worked - she sold Desilu to Gulf and Western in 1967 for about $17 million IIRC

Lol r21

r25 $17 million adjusted for inflation, or $17 million in 1967?

[quote]Both Ball and Arnaz owned a majority stake in DesiLu until 1962 when Ball bought out Arnaz and ran the company by herself for seven years. She sold her shares of Desilu to Gulf + Western (later Paramount Television) for $17 million (a value of $132 million in 2020) in 1968.
$17 million USD in 1967

by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 26, 2023 8:18 AM |
