“Everything I Own” (1972) by Bread is one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded

This song is one of my all time favorites. I sing the chorus out loud and just get in the feels. It’s so beautiful and if you’ve ever lost someone (literally or figuratively) and miss them, you “get it”.

I love how gentle the verses are sung. It’s so good. Man time flies.

With how much I love this one, I still love “Make It With You” (1970) more. That’s my favorite of theirs, followed by this one.

I love their beautiful songs and always have. Diary and Everything I own being my favorites. Beautiful lyrics, beautiful voices. I played their music constantly when I was a child. It was so soothing, sad, and oddly comforting.

R2 agree that their music is very soothing despite having this sense of sadness in it. It’s very gentle and comforting.

When I heard Everything I Own as a teen it sounded to me like an unconditional love, perhaps for a parent or sibling. Years later I read that Gates wrote it for his father after he passed away.

R4- I didn't know that. What a beautiful tribute. The song Diary use to bring tears to my eyes. " The love she waited for, was someone else, not me. "

I always assumed it was written for a family member but it’s a song that can relate to anyone who has lost a loved one, whether family or a friend or a significant other

It’s a beautiful song.
