Amazon Prime Video To Show Ads

Amazon is joining other streaming services and inserting ads into its programming.

Beginning next year, shows and movies on its Prime Video service will “include limited advertisements,” the company announced Friday. Customers that want to skip ads can buy an ad-free tier for an additional $2.99 per month next year.

On top of the $139 fee you're already paying them.

This isn't going to work as well as Amazon hopes. Prime has so little content worth watching.

Funny how streaming services are reverting to standard TV practices ... ads, weekly episodes, bundling.

Free Tubi never looked so good!

Prime Video exists as a sweetener for Amazon’s core businesses. Given the tremendous amount of losses Amazon is taking on scripted (Lord of the Rings will go down as one of the worst deals in showbiz history - $700 million flushed and they don’t even have the theatrical rights) it will make sense that they’re pivoting to recouping some money thru forced advertising. Almost nobody will opt for the additional fee.

Once this happens I’m out after over well over ten years of prime. They’ve also added charges for small orders recently as well in the UK at least. I’m not paying for the privilege of watching ads. I’ll just wait and make larger orders or find streaming alternatives.

I nixed Amazon and cable since I got a Roku tv. From nearly 200.00 a month to 20.00 for just Internet. Amazon never had a single thing I wanted to watch. Free channels give me my old tv shows and movies which is what I watched anyway. I never minded commercials, I m usually reading at the same time.

I agree, R6. I am usually never watching television 100% so I don't even notice commercials on any of the free streamers.

Not making enough $$$$. Apparently Bezos needs to be more than the richest man in the world. And I think the homelessness and widespread poverty is due to a few greedy people who have grifted a majority of the wealth.

I just cancelled Apple because it’s raised its cost by $30/month. . For what I watch I can download the torrents. Prime will be next.

by Anonymousreply 9September 22, 2023 9:16 PM

What fucking tier of service were you using that they raised the price 30 dollars a month? I pay 17 for Apple One.

by Anonymousreply 10September 22, 2023 9:21 PM

Fuck Jeff Bezos!

I am an eldergay with no car, so I shop for many, many things on Prime. I subscribe to Prime primarily for the free shipping, but I will gladly pay extra to avoid commercials.
