What the hell does "live oak" mean? As opposed to what, dead oak? I'm honestly asking but I'm also going to bed right now so I won't see the answers till tomorrow. Sleep tight, DL.
I could google this but I'm tired and going to bed

Live oak generally refers to oaks that are not deciduous (leaf-dropping) on the normal schedule. Most trees leaf out in spring, the leaves change color in the fall and either fall off immediately, or the dead leaves hang onto the tree for a while in the winter before dropping. With live oaks, which are mostly native to warmer regions of the US, the leaves stay green through the winter, and the tree probably still photosynthesizes a bit during winter because the temperatures are warm enough and the ground isn't frozen. However, live oaks also lose their leaves. They generally drop them in the spring and new ones replace them as they fall. The classic live oak is quercus virginiana, the live oak of the deep South, with exceptionally long branches that are draped with spanish moss as pictured in the link

It's kind of like the apple trees in "The Wizard of Oz". Only they can walk right into your house and smother you in your sleep.
