I own a lot of books, so I'll be paranoid about this for months. How do I make sure they never come back?
There was a SILVERFISH in my bathroom!

They are attracted to moisture, so keeping your bathroom/house dry is key. Is there an exhaust fan in the bathroom to help with condensation? I grew up in the Pacific Northwest in an old house that got really damp throughout the year, especially our basement. We had to run dehumidifiers to help keep the moisture levels low (mostly in the summer, but sometimes in the fall/spring too). We had a lot of books in the house and I never recall anything getting damaged, though we would often come across these bugs. They are strange little creatures. Anywhere there is water or humidity, they will flock to it. Same with a lot of other pests.

Silverfish are cute and they’re also incredibly ancient, a throwback to the earliest insects — a species almost half a billion years old. They are very similar to the very first insects to evolve.
So when you see one of these little guys darting about so quickly, you’re looking at a tiny remnant of our ancient past.

I don't care, R4. My two volume set of Sondheim's collected lyrics costs over $120 for a new copy, but mine are still in pristine condition (from when I only paid $40 for them) and I will not have them defaced by a silverfish!
And furthermore, horseshoe crabs are better living fossils, they leave my stuff alone!

In that case, r5, just keep the moisture down. Silverfish can’t abide in a dry environment.
If you had horseshoe crabs in your house, then you’d REALLY have a moisture problem.
