But, I get this if the reasoning is that I'm iffy on the show and could take or leave it, but would give it a chance if there were a tie breaker which prompted me to give it a shot - no matter what that extra inducement was, hot guy, gay storyline, actor I really liked.

There are a lot of shows about which I am ambivalent, but would have given it a shot if there were something I found intriguing.

I didn't say that. I said I'll watch this particular superhero show if the audience reception is good AND if it features a gay storyline (note the two qualifiers) because I am burned out in superhero shows. Obviously I watch other shows without gay content all the time, which is also partly the reason I can't find the time to watch this one unless it's good and has gays in it.

Well the writers sure love patting themselves on the back about some twist.

I like it better than The Boys so far.

The thing I don't like about both series is the unnecessary gore used only for shock value.

I feel bad that the Nephilim in Supernatural was reduced in this show to beating his own balls with a baseball bat.

I actually care more for most of these characters than the ones in The Boys. At least for now.

I’m enjoying this show so far. Interesting characters but the writing feels like a rip off from a New Mutants/X-men storyline from the comics.

I can't wait for the next season of The Boys. I'll give this a go tonight instead,

I'm on episode 2 now and it's really good. It's certainly held my attention.

Latest episode adds in a nice twist and a few ‘what the’ moments needing to be answered. I think it’s getting better every episode.

I love The Boys and this is in that same quirky, humorous, violent and shocking style. It's really good, very well done and quite unexpected. I didn't even notice it on Prime until I saw this thread.

If anyone liked The Boys then you should definitely give this a watch.

I thought it was just too sick and ultraviolent by the end--even more so than The Boys. There's a weird kind of redeeming cheerfulness and humorousness to The Boys that this ultimately was missing. I guess I also don't like seeing college age kids being violently slaughtered on campus--it's too real.

I was disappointed also there wasn't enough male eye candy. Patrick Schwarzenegger is very attractive, but he isn't in it much; although his character burns off his clothing when he uses his fire superpowers, you insanely get no good shots of his nudity. The sexiest guy was actually an adult named Derek Wilson, who plays smarmy mega-asshole Tek Knight; but he was also barely in it, and also had no nudity (though you get to watch him fuck multiple inanimate objects with his clothes on).

The other actors are pretty forgettable, although there's a wonderful young woman with the unlikely name of Lizze Broadway who plays the size-changing Emma. She looks like a young, prettier Joan Blondell, and is enormously appealing. The actor who plays Ambrose in "Sabrina" is in this, and he's interesting looking (if not that attractive). The most depressing actors were Asa Germann, who looks like a second-rate and homelier Evan Peters, as Sam; and Maddie Phillips, who looks like a second-rate and homelier Emma Roberts, as Cate. (You know you're reaching the bottom of the barrel when you're a second-rate and homelier Emma Roberts!)

I thought it was great.

Kinda ended on a cliff-hanger though.

I skip the usual superhero stuff but The Boys universe shows how a world with super powers would probably actually be. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

I thought it was a mixed bag. Production values were great. Lots of logical gaps and absurdities, especially in the final episode.

It was the first time I ever felt on the side of that psycho Homelander about anything. I disliked the series lead (not the actress, but that character) and was secretly satisfied when she got the old eye beam treatment.

What on earth did you dislike about the lead character? The actress was great, the character was interesting... I don't get why you were "satisfied" that she may have been brutally murdered.

Characters brutally murdered in a fictional drama are not actually brutally murdered in real life. It's all pretend.

Blood bending was in Avatar the Last Airbender, which was not just for kids.

I think they made a point of saying in The Boys that every super comes with a standard package of enhanced strength, invulnerability, and healing—levels can vary.

When will Marie figure out that she can kill anyone by stopping the blood flow to the brain?

Marie can kill anyone by just exploidng their heads, like Victoria Neuman (who has the same superpower) does: she just didn;t realize before she could do it.

It was suggested in the final episode that her meeting with Neuman has allowed Marie to figure out how she can do much more with her powers than she had previously thought, just as Emma discovered in the last episode she actually doesn't need to purge or binge to activate her size-changing powers.

I didn't find the lead character annoying at all.

And season 2 is going to be LIT.

I was enjoying the show until the always winning fugly ass Homelander show up. I despise that character and the way he’s written. Wasn’t planning on watching the next season of Seth Rogan’s Boys and don’t think I’ll be back for Gen V’s n second season.

Yes.

Yeah, you kind of do. They casually mention a ton of stuff from the "Boys" series and all its world-building, so you might be a little lost if you don't have any of that background.

R48 It certainly helps. As said before, plot points from The Boys are discussed, and key characters make cameos without any explanation. Still, the main storyline is about the school and if anything, just make you more interested in watching The Boys.
