Fun to see all the soap stars who guested. Jim Houghton from Y&R was so cute, and never got a decent role. Barbara Parkins was a huge ABC star from the 60's and Peyton Place, another who never got a 2nd good long running role.

Boyd Gaines looking good.

Gary Frank looks hot without that scruffy hair he had on Family.
Denise Alexander looks great there, versus the weird bird's next hair she had in later years.
Martin Hewitt - cute, but bland.
LAINIE KAZAN, BITCHES!
Constance McCashin, dipping Bugles into a jar of Nutella.
A fair number of actors in other shows (Ken Kercheval, Steve Kanaly, Shackleford, etc.) - guess I'm surprised to see them in a guest spot on another show, especially on another network.
And SHELLEY WINTERS. The end.

Unless I missed someone that’s a very white bunch of guest stars. I saw Scatman Carothers and Maidie Norman - two old people. That may reflect that there weren’t many black or Asian actors at the time to take these kind of parts. I don’t think I ever watched an episode of Hotel.
About 20 years ago a cousin of mine worked as a PA for Connie and John Tesch. He said John was nice but that Connie was “the c word”. They must have found my cousin through the born-again Christian circles which John and Connie are part of. I’d bet you Connie is faking it the marriage. She seems a little too Bronx for that stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | September 24, 2023 1:01 PM |
I thought it was Cristina Raines, too.
Aaron Spelling was loyal to a regular group of Hollywood actors. Class B-C, who he would use a lot. He had Michelle Phillips as a mermaid on Fantasy Island, then used her on TJ Hooker, Love Boat etc., and cast her as Efrem Zimbalist's daughter who was trying to help the Cabot family keep the "St. Gregory'" away from James Brolin. That led to Knots Landing after Hotel.

Do shows still have a guest star play different roles over the run of the series? Tom Bosley plays a hotel worker in season two and a guest in season three.
It seems to have been more common in the earlier days of television, and was still being done in the 80s, on The Golden Girls for example.
I can’t think of any shows that do it now, though I don’t watch much series television these days.

Not much, r123. Aaron was notoriously cheap so they would have appeared for the exposure.
For someone who produced a lot of crappy shows, he sure made heaps of money. If Tori had followed in his footsteps, she could have made heaps for at least a decade, instead of embarrassing herself on her "reality" shows and instagrift.
by Anonymous | reply 127 | September 25, 2023 11:40 AM |
Hotel is weird because although the format was essentially "Love Boat," it has this dark, sleazy undercurrent that makes viewers sometimes feel in need of a Silkwood shower.
The pilot features the brutal rape of hooker Morgan Fairchild, and Robert Reed plays a man who's molesting his very young stepdaughter! No, thanks. I mean I'm just trying to enjoy some '80s cheese, here. No need for the lurid histrionics.
