What do you predict will happen if Trump is defeated .....

..... and Democrats take control of both the House and Senate?

On the flip side, what will happen if Trump is elected and the Dems lose both the House and Senate?

What is your honest take on what will become of the USA following the upcoming Presidential election?

I'm only putting two scenarios out there for opinions, but these are the two that keep me up at night.

by Anonymousreply 166September 27, 2023 3:57 AM

I think the Rethuglican party is dying. It's taking a long time to do it but it's on that path. If they don't hurry up and grow a backbone, they're going to lose bigly in the 2024 elections. BIGLY.

Look at all their fuckery now, for god's sake. Trump hasn't even been put on trial yet and they are coming apart at the seams. They've lost so many Republicans who simply can't stomach their treason and scamming and all the rest of the white supremacist shit. The Independents don't even want to know them. Nobody wants to know them, Nazis aren't social butterflies.

by Anonymousreply 1September 20, 2023 2:37 AM

The losing sides will both show equanimity, tipping their hats in respect to the victor.

by Anonymousreply 2September 20, 2023 2:43 AM

I think they'll win the House back, retain the Senate and retain the White House. Sweep.

I don't see Republicans winning anything for a good long while. They really fucked up this time and show no sign of stopping.

by Anonymousreply 3September 20, 2023 2:45 AM

r3 Oh I wish I had your optimism. I don't see the Rethugs winning anything legally, but hell yes they will retain seats

by Anonymousreply 4September 20, 2023 2:50 AM

Of course they'll retain some seats, just not enough to control either of the houses of congress.

by Anonymousreply 5September 20, 2023 2:52 AM

I don't think Trump can win (legally.) I think it will be close and I worry he's not going away until he's buried. So even if he loses 2024, which I expect he will, he'll be complicating things as long as he can. He cannot live without the attention. He'd only be 82 in 2028. Who described it well the other day - he has the energy of the insane or zealous or something you don't want in a president.

by Anonymousreply 6September 20, 2023 2:57 AM

[quote] What do you predict will happen if Trump is defeated .....

The country will literally implode

by Anonymousreply 7September 20, 2023 3:22 AM

I agree with R3. I think there's no question about it.

by Anonymousreply 8September 20, 2023 3:25 AM

We can all have a huge fart of relief.

by Anonymousreply 9September 20, 2023 3:26 AM

"I worry he's not going away until he's buried"

And that's a problem because?

"He'd only be 82 in 2028. Who described it well the other day - he has the energy of the insane or zealous or something you don't want in a president."

Incredibly poor diet. No exercise (he always uses a golf cart), I don't think his parents lived to any great age. Crazy people stroke out and die all the time. Their emotions run amok and Poof! they stroke out.

by Anonymousreply 10September 20, 2023 3:27 AM

If Trump gets defeated Gee, what will watch or listen to or read on the news? Will we be able to live without following his every word, lie, or bloviation? Might have to hire somebody to report the news instead of repeating what stands in for news these days.

by Anonymousreply 11September 20, 2023 3:31 AM

R7 is a fantasist.

WHEN Trump loses, the entire gig is over. Maybe, maybe, a handful of morons will do something criminally stupid, but the prison sentences this year have probably concentrated MAGAt minds wonderfully.

There can be no Republican repeat of fake electors, "perfect" phone calls to State Secretaries of State, attempts at getting voting machines, etc. Trump et al. will have no power.

WHEN Biden wins re-election, there will be an almost audible national and international sigh of relief and innumerable exclamations of "THANK GOD!"

There will be no explosion, no implosion. Joe Biden's democracy will carry on.

[quote]WHEN Biden wins re-election, there will be an almost audible national and international sigh of relief and innumerable exclamations of "THANK GOD!" There will be no explosion, no implosion. Joe Biden's democracy will carry on.

And then the Dems had better get off their tails and develop a long-term succession strategy, or the country could still fall off the rails. It is outrageous that a party that has been in power for 12 years of this century has no viable talent bank -- not for next year and not for the four or eight years after that either.

by Anonymousreply 14September 20, 2023 3:42 AM

I think Trump can win, terrifying but I can see it happening. He did get 4 million MORE votes in 2020 than he did in 2016, people's memories are short and I think they'll blame Biden for the high gas prices, etc.

by Anonymousreply 15September 20, 2023 3:44 AM

I expect that Biden and Harris will win reelection. The Dems will keep the Senate by a narrow majority and take back the House. This will enrage the tRumper MAGAts who are spoiling for a repeat of the Civil War. They are not going to actually do anything. Oh, there will be additional shenanigans and attempts by the reich-wing to try and overturn the results in battleground states — with the same results as last time. This time, however, no one is going to storm the Capitol or try and thwart the counting of the Electoral College votes.

by Anonymousreply 16September 20, 2023 3:46 AM

Will you seek a third term?

by Anonymousreply 17September 20, 2023 3:48 AM

I honestly don't give a fuck anymore about politics.

by Anonymousreply 18September 20, 2023 3:55 AM

If Biden wins (likely), and Dems retake the House (likely), and keep the Senate (difficult), we'll be in a good place.

If Trump wins (unlikely), and the GOP keeps the House (unlikely) and take the Senate (sadly likely), this country will be over. It will be the End Of America. It will be the beginning of an absolute nightmare that we will not be able to wake up from for a generation. Utter disaster.

[quote]I honestly don't give a fuck anymore about politics.

Must be nice to be that privileged.

by Anonymousreply 20September 20, 2023 3:55 AM

R14, just how fucking high are you, dear? No viable talent bank for 2024 AND 2028? OMG the sky is falling the sky is falling!

Are you in some kind of drug induced coma or living under a rock? Poor thing, you have our sympathy, of course.

We have tons of talent and a bench that's far deeper than Rhonda Santis, Nimrata Haley and Kristi "I've been fucking Corey Lewandowski for years on the side" Noem.

Bitch, please. President Biden is our choice for 2024 because of his record as President and before that as VP and Senator. He is in the best position to beat Dump or any other goddamn Republican scumsucking pig candidate. We're going with him and a million Republican morons aren't going to change that no matter how desperately you want to.

by Anonymousreply 21September 20, 2023 4:10 AM

What do you mean IF?

by Anonymousreply 22September 20, 2023 4:13 AM

Trump will try again to say it was rigged but it won’t go anywhere. People are on to his chin game.

Republicans will continue to demonize Biden and Kamala. They won’t change

by Anonymousreply 23September 20, 2023 4:15 AM

^ “con game”

by Anonymousreply 24September 20, 2023 4:15 AM

There is no scenario where Republicans win President, Senate and House.

by Anonymousreply 25September 20, 2023 4:20 AM

I thought "chin game" worked fairly well too.

by Anonymousreply 26September 20, 2023 4:20 AM

R25, there IS such a scenario, it's just extremely unlikely (and involves a whole lot of corruption and cheating... the GOP is laying a TON of ground-work to steal the election in 2024, and they seemingly have the full cooperation of ALL the media).

Don't dismiss the possibility they win entirely. Understand that to keep them from winning will take a full court press between now and the end of 2024. We have to have a massive turnout to over-come their voter suppression, corruption, propaganda, lying, cheating, and stealing. And I imagine there will be no small amount of violence on their part too, intimidation, etc.

by Anonymousreply 27September 20, 2023 4:53 AM

I think the GOP has/will fracture into at least 2 distinct entities as their current path is unsustainable. .

by Anonymousreply 28September 20, 2023 8:47 AM

by Anonymousreply 32September 20, 2023 11:34 AM

Can't find it now, but I just saw an article on MSNBC.com about how many of Trump's cabinet level officials were already planning their triumphant return to The White House in 2025.

by Anonymousreply 33September 20, 2023 11:51 AM

I think the GOPigs will have a brokered convention and nominate Glenn Younkin with the argument that Trump is unelectable/too old and reassure the cult that Youngkin hates immigrants, blacks and queers as much as they do; which he does.

R36, if Donald Trump is again defeated in the 2024 elections, do you honestly believe that clown will silently go away, never to be heard from again?

He's a fucking ex-game show host. He'll do anything to keep up his "ratings." If he has to destroy the United States in the process, so be it. Unfortunately, gutless, spineless Republican and 68 million pro-Trump voters will let him do it.

by Anonymousreply 38September 20, 2023 12:17 PM

It’s not gonna happen losers! Trump, Haley, and Scott are all beating Biden.

by Anonymousreply 39September 20, 2023 12:52 PM

R32, due to redistricting and courts throwing out gerrymandered maps, it's almost impossible for Dems not to pick up at least 5 seats, and the GOP only hold a 5 seat majority, so it really seems like it would be easy for Dems to take back the House. Especially after this two year term of blatant GOP incompetence, bumbling, and nonsense there. Never mind that there are THIRTY Republican House members that are running in districts Biden won. It won't take much investment to flip at least five of THOSE as well. Never mind that ever since the GOP managed to get Roe overturned, Dems have been over-performing in every single election (no predicted "Red Wave" in 2020, and Dems winning upsets in many special elections since then).

It would be very unusual if Democrats do NOT re-take the House in 2024.

The Senate is a whole different matter. There are may vulnerable Dems, and only one vulnerable Republican... and many more Democrats are up for re-election and have to be defended than Republicans, so our resources will be spread thinner. And Democrats have the thinnest of margins as it is. Only takes one or two seats to flip and we lose the majority. And sadly, that's much more likely than us defending 100% of the seats, or even flipping the one (slighly) vulnerable seat: Ted Cruz in Texas.

by Anonymousreply 40September 20, 2023 1:31 PM

R39 is either joking (that's hilarious!) or delusional.

It's hard to tell anymore.

by Anonymousreply 41September 20, 2023 1:32 PM

Tim Scott, r39? THAT Scott? And an Indian woman?

Bwahahahaha!

R36, He can rant from prison.

by Anonymousreply 42September 20, 2023 2:23 PM

Most DC insiders seem to feel that the Democrats have a good chance at taking back the House. They have zero chance of retaining the Senate. And the presidential election is a toss-up, but Trump has the edge at the moment. Pennsylvania and Michigan will stay blue. Georgia and Arizona will flip back to red. It all comes down to one state: Wisconsin.

by Anonymousreply 43September 20, 2023 2:39 PM

Biden will pack the Supreme Court. Term-limited he will have nothing to lose.

by Anonymousreply 44September 20, 2023 2:43 PM

The Dems are going to lose the Senate. Manchin either won't run or will get defeated. Sherrod Brown will likely be defeated. Same thing with Jon Tester.

No Republican will be ousted, barring a miracle in Texas.

Biden will win the White House back, and the House of Reps will go back to Dem, please God without Nancy Pelosi this time.

by Anonymousreply 45September 20, 2023 2:44 PM

The Rethugs might all lose at the national level but fascist rightwingers control a lot of state governments. They can still screw things up.

by Anonymousreply 46September 20, 2023 3:35 PM

R45, don't be a sexist ass. Nancy Pelosi is literally the best Speaker in history, and managed to accomplish a lot of amazing work. She was never the problem. That's a bullshit sexist, misogynist GOP talking point.

But regardless of your irrational disrespect towards her, Hakeem Jeffries will be the new Speaker when Democrats re-take the House.

by Anonymousreply 47September 20, 2023 5:45 PM

The good news for mainstream (capitalist, natalist) democrats is that current late-stage capitalism is already the “bottom of the barrel” economically and republican tax cuts won’t necessarily fuck working class people any more than they’ve already been fucked by corporate greed in the past 40 years. The only things hanging in the balance are social issues and forward-thinking action on the environment.

by Anonymousreply 48September 20, 2023 5:49 PM

We will devolve into something that looks more and more like the Irish troubles or the Years of Lead in Italy. Unless the online loudness/russian bot farms just make our domestic fascists look way more in number than they truly are, then we might be alright as long as Dems win.

by Anonymousreply 49September 20, 2023 5:51 PM

Pelosi was a very effective Speaker but she's also 83. One of the Dems' central problems is the advanced age of its leadership.

It alienates younger voters, who they need, and clearly isn't attracting older voters, who vote Republican en masse.

by Anonymousreply 50September 20, 2023 6:35 PM

No matter which party prevails in the majority, they both serve the wealthy, so there will be the usual prevarications and talking points-based regrets about what simply cannot be done at this time. The prevailing party will also answer to whatever the military wants, like more money for wars and the beefing up of homeland security (which is code for complete digital surveillance and tracking through a digital passport or wallet on everyone's phone). The govt already has surveillance superiority, but apps on most of the population's phone will make it more streamlined. See? Progress, but make it pleases the wealthy! Dems and Repubs - two heads, same hydra.

by Anonymousreply 51September 20, 2023 6:37 PM

The "both sides" bullshit is so poisonous. To say that the Dems and the Rs are the same is to say that Hitler and Churchill were the same because they both liked dogs.

by Anonymousreply 53September 20, 2023 6:41 PM

Trump today is crushing the gop field. It’s not remotely close. And his lead is expanding. What bad news do you expect to come along so bad it will knock Don out of the massive lead he has? More arrests? More he grabbed me charges?

A year from now they will still be picking juries and the courts will still be hearing appeals.

It’s the Dems that have to hold serve. The economy, Biden’s health, a serious infectious disease outbreak, a prolonged auto strike or other major strikes, a long term govt shut down, any number of other things can go wrong. The Dems have to remain lucky or even more lucky.

And today Biden is behind not just one but 3 GOP

(don’t worry be happy playing in the potential future losers lounge right now)

There will be no brokered convention, trump will be the nominee , and he will pick a VP that appeals to more people not fewer.

Those that thinks trump can’t win are truly living in a delusional bubble.

And if he does win he will have debts to pay to those who stood with him. The right to choose, marriage equality, and a whole lot of other things are going to be under a major attack. It will be turning back the clock of time.

There are young progressive people today that think they have already lived thru tough times . Silly bastards.

by Anonymousreply 58September 20, 2023 7:31 PM

R51 is one of those tedious "both sides" idiots that are so goddamned annoying and are why we're in this mess.

The two parties are nearly polar opposites on every issue you can name, and yet they claim "they both work for the 1%". No, you goddamned motherfucker. Open your myopic ideological eyes and take a look at reality. You're sure to be surprised. I mean, one brought insulin down to $35/month max (and tried to do it for EVERYONE) and the other fought it tooth and nail and wants to repeal it. So fuck off, R51, because no, you're just fucking WRONG.

by Anonymousreply 59September 20, 2023 8:24 PM

It's my hope that Trump will be in prison before November of 2024 rolls around.

by Anonymousreply 60September 20, 2023 8:25 PM

And R39, it’s instructive to remember that Pres. Dole was beating Bill Clinton in the polls this time in 1995, while Pres, Romney was ahead in the polls against Barack Obama this time in 2011.

by Anonymousreply 67September 20, 2023 11:42 PM

But but we can’t trust Hillary.

by Anonymousreply 68September 20, 2023 11:50 PM

by Anonymousreply 69September 20, 2023 11:54 PM

R69, You weren't alive in either 1963 or 1968, were you?

JFK's assassination and LBJ's ascension led to zero "tailspin."

The assassinations and protests and Democratic Convention "police riot" (official designation by investigative commission) of 1968 did rattle us, for sure.

Nonetheless, here we are, having weathered the time, wars, a Presidential resignation, and impeachments.

God forbid the current President pass away before his re-election, but we will cope.

Substitute "rejoice" there regarding TFFG.

by Anonymousreply 70September 21, 2023 1:03 AM

I’m sorry, but both parties ARE corporatists. However, there is a spectrum on corporatism, and the right is far far worse.

The right is fascist however, while the left is not, and the left do have players who really are trying to fight for policies that make our country work for ALL people, especially the working class, POC, LGBT, women.

All this to say, Dems can be both Corporatist *and* also cherry pick the causes they fight for, so as to carefully not upset the apple cart with their corporate overlords. Rethugs just straight up want to burn the whole thing down — so no, not the same as Dems at all. The one bipartisan stand they all have is to protect their donors interests….it’s the reality of our system guys, super pacs are running the show as is dark money, it’s all corrupt but that doesn’t mean I think both parties are twins.

All this to say, hell yes Trump can win. We must turn out our voting coalition of POC, LGBT, the working class, and women. If we don’t see a surge in women and/or black people, we will lose the WH. You are insane and part of the problem if you don’t understand that he can win.

So….start volunteering right now. Dems should recruit armies of people to go canvas in WI now (but the guy running the Dem Ops in WI is said to be the best in the country). The ground game in WI will determine who wins.

[quote] Most DC insiders seem to feel that the Democrats have a good chance at taking back the House. They have zero chance of retaining the Senate. And the presidential election is a toss-up, but Trump has the edge at the moment.

Most DC insiders also thought that the Rethugs were going to have either a “Red Wave” or a “Red Tsunami” in 2022. Their ability to predict elections is extremely suspect. Who knows what Joe Manchin is going to do, but it is quite unlikely that his West Virginia Senate seat is going to stay in Democratic hands. So that one is probably lost. Brown in Ohio and Tester in Montana may be able to scrape by if they say “reproductive rights” often enough in the next 14 months. The women voters in Ohio certainly showed up last month to defeat a special ballot measure that was aimed at indirectly restricting abortion. The women may show up again to save a crucial Senate seat or two.

I have little faith that we could dislodge the obnoxious Ted Cruz despite how hated he is. But I’d love to be wrong about that.

What we’ve learned in the era of tRump is that conventional wisdom is often wrong and the old rules just don’t seem to apply. 🤷‍♂️ Well, we’ll know for certain in November 2024.

by Anonymousreply 72September 21, 2023 3:00 AM

Not at all. I just think she sees herself as indispensable and will tell herself that the Country Needs Me if the House goes Dem in 2024.

Listen - I like Pelosi. I have a lot of respect for her achievements. And she was literally the only one on the Hill who had Trump's number from Day One. But she should retire. Really retire. Let someone else run for her seat.

Sorry, R47, I have to reserve that spot for the legendary Tip O'Neill. That being said, Nancy Pelosi is a Speaker who built her own legend. She is a great House leader and astonishingly good at her job under the most trying circumstances.

Those crazy motherfuckers tried to kill her when they attempted to overthrow the United States in their failed coup. Tip never had to put up with that shit. He's still the King of Speakers with Nancy a strong second place.

by Anonymousreply 85September 23, 2023 2:24 AM

Biden/Harris will win, even if it's a squeaker, in SPITE of all the lying and cheating and threats and machinations the GOP will engage in.

Democrats will take back the House too. We've seen AGAIN how utterly incompetent Republicans are at governing. Their two year House term has been an utter disaster and it's only getting worse as we head towards a completely avoidable shutdown that they seem unable to avoid.

The Senate is a sticky matter because the calendar is absolutely brutal for Democrats. They have more than twice as many seats to defend, and MANY more vulnerable candidates than the GOP. It's very likely the GOP pick up seats and flip the Senate. This will be bad, but not the COMPLETE disaster that the GOP House has been. It does mean that all judicial confirmations come to a screeching halt though. That's not good.

So we all need to focus on doing everything we can to get Biden over the finish line and defend the Senate. We need these things back. And we need to keep the White House & Senate for at least TEN YEARS so we can un-fuck the Supreme Court as the two oldest (and most corrupt) conservatives either retire or die.

In the first scenario, it might be enough for the RNC to finally wash their hands of him. Trump and the MAGATs failing to deliver for the Republicans yet again would be a huge disappointment for them.

by Anonymousreply 95September 24, 2023 3:23 PM

I see no reason at all to lose sleep over the scenario of having a Democratic president and both houses in (by a comfortable majority) Democratic hands.

Republicans should should have no effective power in the the national government (or any other).

by Anonymousreply 96September 24, 2023 4:07 PM

R95 Well he is a piece of shit.

by Anonymousreply 97September 24, 2023 4:29 PM

If Democrats sweep? I hope we'll see them codify abortion rights nationwide, and advance similar legislation that will improve lives and benefit the majority. The heads of conservatives will explode, but the rest of us, the overwhelming majority of the American public, will benefit greatly. We early always do under Democratic governments. Democrats are for "the people."

If Republicans sweep? We will continue to see assaults on our rights and liberties, an aggressive dismantling of our American democracy, and we'll immediately descend back into the sort of civil chaos and state violence that we saw under Trump. Republicans are for "the few" and they always create chaos and misery.

by Anonymousreply 98September 24, 2023 4:42 PM

R96, you're talking about "what if" scenarios with both your statements.

I think Biden will win, because enough people want Dump out of their lives and out of politics. The people who voted for Biden last time will vote for him again, not fewer people. I sincerely hope that's the case, anyway.

The Senate is lost because of the numbers of seats that need to be defended, as has been said. The House will swing back to Dems, especially after the antics of the House GOP. They barely won it as it is.

by Anonymousreply 99September 24, 2023 5:41 PM

R98, even a Democratic sweep won’t be enough to codify abortion rights unless there’s a resulting supermajority in the Senate. And that’s not happening.

by Anonymousreply 100September 24, 2023 8:02 PM

[quote] If Democrats sweep? I hope we'll see them codify abortion rights nationwide, and advance similar legislation that will improve lives and benefit the majority.

Hold on there a minute, R98! You need to think about the necessity of a supermajority to provide stability and ...

Oh wait, I'll be irrelevant.

by Anonymousreply 101September 24, 2023 8:12 PM

I’ve posted this on other threads. Joyce Vance laid out how his imprisonment will go. She brought up how Jefferson Davies was housed for 2.5 years in a military fort after the Civil War. She believes they will first be forced to do that because nothing else is secure, both for him and his protection team — while they build a special facility just for Dump.

As someone who volunteers in a jail weekly (max security), I believe Joyce is 100% correct. They can’t put him into a regular prison because our enemies will send spies to try and get more national secrets out of him. Or kill him just for the glory, which makes us look weak. Also, anyone in a prison could try to kill him — I would imagine lots of gang-bangers would looooooove to slice his throat. And we can’t undo his secret service protection, because again, he holds national secrets, so SS isn’t really for him, it’s to protect our secrets. We also can’t have SS inside a regular prison — that’s not what they are trained for, and it puts SS in grave danger too. The ONLY secure way to keep others away from Trump to stop him from leaking ever more secrets is to put him inside his own facility. He cannot be in a building with any other inmates.

^ You read it here first kids, though I take no credit, it’s all Joyce. Military base, then his own little “fort”, a mini-Supermax if you will. And I’m fucking here for it.

by Anonymousreply 105September 24, 2023 11:38 PM

Trump only lost by 44,000 votes in the electoral college in 2020. Anyone thinking he can't win again in 2024 is fooling themselves.

by Anonymousreply 106September 25, 2023 12:08 AM

It's not that he CAN'T, r106, it's that he WON'T.

What is possible is that he'll try to steal it. At that point we'll do whatever is required to make sure that President Biden is protected, sworn in and serves his second term. Dump will be dealt with in an appropriate way with a treason trial.

Treason is the ONE crime for which I support the Death Penalty. I'm against it in all other criminal cases. With Dump, I make an exception. As much as I, personally, would support it, I think it would be too inflammatory to the unhinged Trumptards. They'd start killing too many innocent citizens. Let them watch Dump sit in jail, suffer and wither away until the day he dies.

Even the former president got caught and taken down. He's a cautionary tale for the other Nazis.

At least that's my feeling on it at the moment. I'm usually advocating for him to stroke out.

If we have proven anything in the past 50 years it is that Americans don't give a fuck about homeless people. Every president has failed policies on homelessness. These dumbfucks can jump up and down and cosplay all they want, Rethuglicans sure as shit don't give a fuck about homeless people and everyone knows it.

All your fearmongering about Oakland and SF, just to try to hurt VP Harris. You're just so fucking obvious and stupid. You've already failed. She's fine, she sends her love.

by Anonymousreply 113September 25, 2023 1:42 AM

R106, if Trump couldn’t win with the (enormous) advantages of incumbency, a united party & no serious third-party candidate cutting into his vote, how do you see him winning in ‘24 (against an incumbent, who has a United party behind him & likely no serious third-party challenger)?

by Anonymousreply 114September 25, 2023 2:17 AM

President Biden has a KILLER of a record as president. Other presidents would have killed for Biden's numbers.

People just have to keep countering all the overwhelming piles of Rethuglican propaganda bullshit with President Biden's actual record which absolutely kicks ass.

The reich-wing morons have too much of a voice on the Datalounge. We need to drown them out more.

Insulin for Diabetics - President Biden got it capped at $35 a month, down from as much as $500 a month. Now THAT is accomplishing something for average Americans.

President Biden also got an agreement to negotiate prices on ten very common and expensive drugs. It's not everything but it's a start, and a good one. We've been screaming for drug price negotiating like other countries do for years and we could never get it. Now we've started down that road. Hallelu. We all know where it leads but, as Americans, we always make these changes over time. We're just slow like that with large programs, always have been.

As Mr Churchill once said, "Americans can always be counted on to do the right thing, after they've tried everything else first."

trump is poison. IF he gets the WH back in 2024 it will only be because the republicans rigged the elections to get him in. Four indictments, 91 felony charges, and the list will grow. I know he has a solid base of cult followers, but they won't be enough to win the election for him.

Maybe the two most recent polls for a start

ABC Washington Post Poll

NBC Poll

A really good president running behind a total and complete sleaze.. And he can’t get ahead.

Both polls show Biden in a very tough spot relative to Trump and Trump breezing through the GOP field easily.

But you keep signing , don’t worry be happy , and I am sure everything will work out wonderfully.

by Anonymousreply 124September 25, 2023 5:58 PM

Nobody is saying that, R124. At least I'm not. Polls also fluctuate, and they change with time. The only person more annoying than those who live with their head in the clouds are doom mongers.

There is a middle ground, you know.

[quote] Trump breezing through the GOP field easily

Of course he's breezing through easily, R124--he is the face of the GOP. That's not much of an insight.

by Anonymousreply 126September 25, 2023 6:12 PM

R119's entire posting history is just claim after claim that Trump will beat Biden, cherry picked polls (that are useless and laughable this far out) to support those claims, and snarky retorts mocking posts that say otherwise. 100% that's all it posts. Just classic troll farm bullshit. Easy block.

by Anonymousreply 127September 25, 2023 6:18 PM

Thank you, R127, I'm usually too lazy to bother ignoredar-ing someone but I should do it more often.

R119 is a complete waste of time and space and has nothing to say of any value. Adios R119, keep trolling into the void.

by Anonymousreply 128September 25, 2023 6:25 PM

Is that right, R127? Good to know.

People (or should I say trolls?) seem to forget their posting history is easily discoverable. One giveaway is when they say how much they "support" a "really good president" who "just can't get ahead." I wonder who the trolls think they're influencing on a site like DL.

by Anonymousreply 129September 25, 2023 6:26 PM

"Premature bedwetting" that's so cavalier and dismissive. How anyone is able to take that stance after 2016 is beyond me. And, honestly, anyone who does doesn't understand how very close Trump came to pulling it off again in 2020. 44,000 votes in the electoral college- that is a miniscule margin.

Do I think Trump will win? No. But, I didn't think he'd win in 2016, and I thought 2020 would be a landslide for Biden.

I am worried.

by Anonymousreply 130September 25, 2023 7:16 PM

R130, Biden won the last election by over 7 million votes, as well as the popular vote. And the electoral college was Biden 306, Dump 232--exactly the same as it was when Dump won in 2016.

Be worried all you like (or don't like). I'm not saying we should take anyrhing for granted, either.

by Anonymousreply 131September 25, 2023 7:34 PM

If you're so worried, R130, are you volunteering for Biden? Are you going to ring doorbells? Or just hide under the bed?

I'm not worried and most of the hand-wringing we see here comes from propaganda trolls and old biddies, those gullible enough to fall for trolling propganda bullshit.

My wallet is open and in use monthly by the Biden campaign, same as last time but it's more money this time. That's the one concession I'll make to the trolls. You and Dump scare me enough that I give significantly more money to President Biden in 2023. Probably not needed but I'll sleep better.

I'm too old to ring doorbells and that sort of thing. We'll bring the food and beverages etc etc to the campaign office. We'll do yard signs, host debate watch parties and possibly a couple of beachside bbq's. I'm happy to volunteer but I can't do all the things anymore and I don't expect to get any guilt-tripping shit for it.

Don't underestimate and how much the majority of the country hates Donald Dump. He is HATED. I will not tolerate any bullshit from these Nazi-wannabe thugs. Biden has been and continues to be a very successful president to everyone but the trumptards. Fuck 'em and don't hesitate to Whack A Troll/Whack A Trumptard whenever they show themselves.

No one is saying that the president hasn't lost a step in his communication skills. I've seen him for years and he's slower when he speaks than he used to be. The fact remains that the president's in better shape than Fuckface von Clownstick who is the same age, a bloated pig, mentally slipping and ready to stroke out.

Most importantly, President Biden is mentally fit for the presidency and that's what I need from him.

by Anonymousreply 137September 25, 2023 10:01 PM

For all of those ringing their hands about Biden I say this. He won last time both the popular vote and electoral vote. It actually was NOT that close. Literally the most votes for any president in history. But here is the thing, besides the trolls trying to tell you otherwise, Democrats or Independents who lean left are NOT suddenly voting for Trump. Likewise no Trumpeter is going to vote for Biden "I am a life long Democrat but....." are just Trolls.

We've seen Democrats in office for generations. No one should be surprised where they stand on the issues. Only a Troll would post something saying "now that they have seen a Democrat in office" they are going to change sides. Now Trump was a different matter. A reality show host, grifting business man, Joker card in the deck. People wanted to shake it up, see what would happen. They got their wish and it actually REDUCED the size of the Republican party. More Republicans fled that party than in any other time in history.

So here we are, we know what Democrats are like, we know what Trump was like, and the vast majority of people can see even if they dont want to admit it Trump experiment was a failure. Worse than that, he destroyed one of the two major parties. When you play around the pool, expect to get wet. Bottom line, people who were honestly on the fence, cant justify what Trump did as beneficial to America. So my 2 cents say they will lean into the safer choice which is Biden. Yes, I know he's old. Irrelevant, he has a VP who will carry out similar plans. It's about policy, not personality.

by Anonymousreply 138September 25, 2023 10:15 PM

Jack Smith is going to make sure Trump will be out of the picture.

by Anonymousreply 144September 26, 2023 2:00 AM

We have always had "concern trolls" surrounding elections. These aren't posters just expressing basic concern; it's totally normal to be anxious about the outcome of an election. It crosses into troll territory when it is repeated and sustained over multiple posts, while steadfastly ignoring or dismissing any points made to counter the "concern." You see this in this thread with people saying Biden is weak and he could never defeat the incredible Trump, when in fact Biden already beat Trump once and quite handily, while Trump hasn't exactly been on an upswing since then., and race after race has tilted to the Democrats post-Roe.

Basically, a concern troll is a "sky is falling" hysteric who won't listen to reason or even consider that what they predict (a massive defeat that can't be prevented even 14 months in advance, aka "this thread") might not actually happen. These trolls come in two types: true believers in the form of democratic voters who are convinced their fears are accurate, and actual trolls playing the part for kicks. This second type is usually conservative and right-wing, and might not even hide that, so they're less "concerned" and more "giddy and arrogant" about their POV, even if they don't necessarily believe it as strongly as the true believers.

by Anonymousreply 145September 26, 2023 2:10 AM

Adios America!

by Anonymousreply 146September 26, 2023 2:23 AM

[quote]Basically, a concern troll is a "sky is falling" hysteric who won't listen to reason

Yes, but to me that spells foreign or right winger. Someone who is actually concerned is looking to relieve their fears. It's obvious most of these trolls do exactly what you said, ignoring or dismissing any points made to counter the "concern." The professional ones from Russia or China are here to plant seeds. Seeds of concern, fear, and doubt. Their goal really is to fuck up the country. If they just convince 1% to believe them an sit out a vote, that's close enough to throw an election. The other type, MAGA types are here mainly to be a-holes. They get pleasure by string the pot and pissing in the punch. That' how they get off.

by Anonymousreply 147September 26, 2023 11:35 AM

R147

Everyone who does not agree with you is a right wing troll or from China or Russia? And of course if someone has concerns, fears, or doubts (about the coming election) their goal is to fuck up the country?

This is the state of political discourse in the US today.

The last election where I had absolutely no fears, concerns, or doubts was H Clinton vs D Trump. I just knew she was going to win and by a lot.

by Anonymousreply 148September 26, 2023 12:43 PM

R148, the only thing more ridiculous than thinking that everyone who does not agree with you is a right wing troll or from China or Russia is pretending that there are no trolls here, such as the "I am worried" troll.

So a troll is anyone that disagrees with you so to speak. We have developed a weak group of over sensitive for to easily triggered types in the US . Those who see any debate and anyone that does not agree with them to be the enemy. So to speak.

I have concerns as well about the upcoming election, but it's about a third of the idiot/fascist-admiring voting populace, for whom there is no convincing or proving success in any areas. The Dems blowing the election, as you say, has more to do with the freaks who live in this country.
