I had a very good looking straight friend who became a high school cheerleader and then went on to become "Yell King" during his senior year. It had to do with his below-average height. I think he stopped growing at around 5'5, and because of that he was bypassed when it came to being on the main high school sports teams, so he opted to do the cheerleading thing instead. He was VERY popular with the girls.

In the '80s, I had a frat brother who was a walk-on with the football team, but quit after one season to become a male cheerleader. He was one of those beefy ones who held up the girls above his head, while seemingly staring up their tiny skirts.

He was and is straight. I went to his wedding, and he has been happily married (now with two beefy sons) for 35 years.

I've only known two, and they were genuine vagina preferrers.

When I was a college freshman at a Big 10 school in the 80s, the only things I paid attention to at football games were the male cheerleaders. Back then, any gay cheerleaders were closeted. I always had a fantasy of fucking one though.

Cheerleading would appear to be one way for heterosexual guys to meet good-looking girls and feel them up, since the guys on the squad are often doing routines where their hands all over the girls bodies, often in intimate places.

Don't a lot of male gymnasts do cheer too? I'm sure a lot of collegiate male cheerleaders are gay but I also think programs at some schools it's a prestige type of activity that attracts alpha male types, gay and straight. Who doesn't want to be on TV during televised football games looking athletic, pretty and spirited? It's not just pompoms and rah-rahs. There's a lot of athleticism involved.

We had one male cheerleader in HS and this was in the mid 80's. He was a popular guy, ASB president, honors student, etc. I remember it was shocking when it was announced he made the cheer squad as this was during the whole gay panic days. I was certain he was gay even back then. Clean cut, white guy with a great smile but something was just "off" about him. My friends and I all just assumed he was gay as he never had a girlfriend and had lots of female friends.

Saw him at the 20 year reunion with a very dowdy wife who looked like she walked off the set of Little House on the Prairie. He, of course, had become a minister and led us in "prayer" before dinner. My school was a public school and so it was just weird and awkward for those of us who were atheists.

This thread made me go search for him on FB and he is still with the dowdy wife and it looks like he had three kids with her. He posted a picture 3 years ago saying he was celebrating 30 years of marriage to the "love of his life."

So yeah, pretty sure he's gay.

One of my good friends was a college cheerleader at a state school in Illinois. After he came out, he was known to tell each guy he was with that he was a top, but that person was so good they MADE him a bottom.

I worked with a few in a show and most of them were straight. Ask them what they do and they'll tell you "I chuck chicks".

I knew a male cheerleader in HS once. He was femme, religious, and insisted he was straight. And now he's dead!
