KC & The Sunshine Band- why did all their post 70s music flop so badly?
Most of their songs sounded similar, but I always loved Shake Shake Shake (Shake Your Booty), particularly live. They always had amazing energy.
I always loved the diverse band Harry Wayne Casey (KC) put together. He was a cutie too. Too bad he didn’t age well. He should have Grammys. He was a great artist.
Their last hits were in 1979, literally before we entered the 80s. Once we entered the 80s, their hits were done. As a matter of fact, only two of their singles released in the 80s cracked the Hot 100, “Dancin’ In The Streets” peaked at #66 in 1980 and then “Give It Up” peaked at #18 in 1983. That’s it.
Sad after doing so well in the 70s.

No "Boogie Shoes" in the poll? Die in a grease fire, OP!

R1 peaked at #35
The poll is their Top 10 hits.

It only hit #35??? Wow that's the only KC song I remember, and I was a kid when it came out.

Catchy music but really monotonous.

[quote] in 1979, literally before the '80s.
Why do you think the word "literally" belongs anywhere in that sentence?

I always get them confused with Katrina and the Waves because they had that song "Walking on Sunshine."

Give It Up was extremely fun and a nice update to his funkier sound from the seventies. It would’ve been a bigger hit, but KC and his disco past seemed like a relic by that point.
There were two terrible but also wonderful Give It Up videos. Here’s the one where he’s wearing obvious makeup and skittering around onstage in tight pants showing off an apparently large penis.

And here’s the other, a melange of The Neverending Story, Willow, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars, and Mad Max with some light bondage involving a muscleman and the cast of Cats.
Sadly forgotten forty years later.

Boogie Shoes belongs on the list because (a) it was originally the flipside of Shake Your Booty and (b) it was featured in the movie Saturday Night Fever and was on the soundtrack album.
Everybody knew that song in the 1970s.

R10 cool. But I didn’t ask what is your fav of all their songs you remember. It was their Top 10 hits only. Only 10 slots are allowed in the polls, otherwise I would have done every song charted by them

The first four songs in OP's poll are their only really great songs, although a lot of the rest of it is quite good. But those songs were from peak disco period, and by the 80s disco was not really a thing and their sound was hard to slot anywhere. (And the ballads are boring.)

His best song wasnt one of his Top 10s, it was 1982’s “Give It Up”. I still love that song. It’s such a feel good song. And he was a little older by then and thicker but still handsome.

R22, looks like he had to put his fat pants on, along with his boogie shoes

R25 it’s more like, “Shake, Shake, Shake, Shake your body fat!”

I'm Your Boogie Man is probably my favorite song.
The '80s was a time of "Disco Sucks" and all of that. It makes sense that the band took a downturn in popularity.
At R8, that's such a lackluster performance and he hasn't even gained the weight, yet. He looks unhappy and deteriorated.

I am biracial. My African American grandmother was very religious, and probably suspected that I was gay. My sister and I stood on her coffee table and danced to shake your booty, while visiting her. We got whopped.

To be fair r28 he was in a bad car accident in 82 that left him temporarily paralyzed and subsequently addicted to painkillers. He probably wasn’t in a good place at the time.

Yes he was in a terrible car accident.

R5 Maybe redundant but it’s not misuses you grammar cunt. I think the OP made a point of stating it that way because a lot of time the artists still had a hit or two after the time in reference. In this case, KC Sunshine literally had no more hits after 1979.
