Who is the worst Supreme Court Justice in modern history?
The Worst Supreme Court Justice?

I don't like William Rehnquist, but by all accounts he was an honest and admirable man who honestly believed he was helping the country.

Even before the news of the last few years on Clarence Thomas it was obvious he was very partisan and a corrupt judge.

R2 Well some people are voting for Sandra Day O'Connor over Alito or Thomas

Wow. Thomas is "winning" by a land slide

They are ALL so awful. I had a very difficult time singling out just one.

Thomas, because he's been taking bribes and helping to dismantle our democracy for decades.
Given time, however, Kavanaugh will likely overtake Thomas in the sheer corruption department.

OP, there’s a major set of Justices completely missing from your list.

Thomas for the reasons already stated. He also gets bonus "points" for having replaced Thurgood Marshall—which led to the largest single vote ideological swing in the modern history of the court. It's sickening to even think about it.
Scalia gets second place for having injected the disingenuous cudgel of "originalism" into the judiciary.

R8 I picked the most recent Republican appointees. Who would you include that I left off?
John Paul Stevens?

Agreed, R9. Scalia really had to go through all kinds of mental gymnastics to come up with that bullshit "originalism" theory. As if he and he alone would know what the framers of the US Constitution were intending when they wrote it.
I think Alito is a strong contender for worst SC justice. He thinks he and the rest of the Supreme Court are above the law and should not be held accountable to anyone or anything.

Amy Coney Barrett. Because her pussy stinks.

R8, your title didn’t say the worst one nominated by a Republican president. If that was the intended criteria, it would be clearer if you stated that.

I meant r10

It didn't have to say that—it's implied by the question.

Post WWII, I suppose, otherwise you must consider Plessy v. Ferguson

Has got to be Thomas, with Kavanaugh a close second. How is Thomas able to get away with all the grifting and corruption? And what about his wife? Didn't she text someone on January 6th about finding ways to overturn the election? That alone should have caused a call for his resignation.
I recently rewatched the SNL skit about the Kavanaugh hearing. DL fave Matt Damon was really terrific in that skit. Anyway, I rewatched some of Kavanaugh's testimony--what a pompous jerk.
Asking the senators "don't you drink, don't you like beer" etc. That's the way a potential SCOTUS conducts himself at a hearing? As a Federal Judge, would he allow a defendant or any witness, turn around and question the attorneys in that manner?
I'm far from convinced of his innocence of the assault charges. I think he was so freaking drunk at the time that he probably has no recollection of it.
Also, very suspicious that his friend and classmate, who Blaisey Ford claimed was present in the bedroom at the time (forgot his name) was never called as a witness, and hid out at his beach house in Delaware. Maybe I'm crazy, but if that guy could have corroborated Kavanaugh's innocence, wouldn't Kavanaugh have been anxious for him to testify?
So we have one Justice under serious suspicion of an attempted sexual assault of a minor, and another one who openly accepts expensive vacations and other gifts, and whose wife openly calls for the overthrow of the election and in effect, the entire democratic process as we know it. God Bless America!
