[quote] I worked on Real Time for one week as an assistant and he started the writers room ranting about how he wanted to talk that season about how HIV doesn't cause AIDS, so forgive me if I don't find his analysis on any issue to be compelling.
Bill Maher is the next one to be cancelled
by Anonymous | reply 77 | September 15, 2023 3:01 PM |
I dunno
I think the ones who are 'nicer' like Jimmy and Ellen have farther to fall (further?)
A lot of people think Bill's an ass so he might not be subject to the same kind of dragging.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | September 8, 2023 4:13 PM |
What is going on with that man? He always liked to be edgy, be independent and not be in anybody's corner. But in recent years he seems to make a more conscious effort to really alienate all groups. Is age making him less patient? A personality disorder finally breaking through? I don't get it.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 8, 2023 4:15 PM |
Yeah, Bill is becoming someone I don’t recognize.
I know he often plays devil’s advocate, but recently his views have become a little frightening.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 8, 2023 4:19 PM |
During COVID, someone guessed that he was getting cranky because he wasn't getting laid. Now it seems that he's cranky because the writers' strike is keeping him off the air with nothing but a podcast to spout his opinions.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 8, 2023 4:19 PM |
He's been living more and more in his bubble. His Club Randon podcasts at first had interesting guests, but in the last few months they almost exclusively a list of who's who in deplorables and assholes.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 8, 2023 4:24 PM |
He was the turd in the punch bowl on The Ari Melber Show the other day as well. Ari had him in the featured spot for light, fun banter and Bill was surly and self protective. I think it’s the onset of an old age malady of some sort.

HBO’s ‘Real Time With Bill Maher’ To Return To Air Without Writers:
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 14, 2023 12:22 AM |
I listened to his Club Random podcast with John Waters. It was entertaining but he didn't really have any points to make. John wisely sidestepped when Maher started on trans issues.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 14, 2023 12:25 AM |
He’s old and tired just like his opinions.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 14, 2023 12:40 AM |
Bill is so out of it and RUDE I love Club Random. He had Jordan Peterson on and Jordan is getting vulnerable about addiction and how he almost died from the pills - Bill interjects with "Tell you what man, we really used to party off that shit back in the day" and then just steamrolls over him bragging about his escapades.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 14, 2023 12:47 AM |
Remember America's finest AIDS denialist Christine Maggiore? She ranted all the same things.
She died, of course....of AIDS!
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 14, 2023 12:57 AM |
It is true that a lot of people who work in hollywood are not writers and are having a tough go of it. He's capable of making some jokes by himself.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 14, 2023 1:06 AM |
His recent interview with Elon Musk was fucking bonkers. He basically spent the whole segment telling Musk he was a genius and kissing his ass. Maher has had some, let's say, questionable opinions over the years, but I was shocked that he was so readily buying into all of Musk's bullshit when he's usually the guy calling out the bullshitters.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 14, 2023 1:08 AM |
I was a huge Bill Maher fan. However...
I'm losing faith in him. He has a very smug attitude thinking he can win over Repig assholes simple by talking with them while he sits there and gets high on weed. He changes nothing except it seems like he feels even more superior in his delusional mind. It's rather tiring.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 14, 2023 1:10 AM |
He used to be someone I would enjoy watching because he could call the Repugs on their crap but lately he just seems to want to say crazy outrageous and ignorant things which makes me think he has a MAGA hat hidden away.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 14, 2023 1:11 AM |
Is he auditioning for the next Limbaugh?
He is a POS who, allegedly, has a history of enjoying the comforts of Negress Prostitutes.
His 15 minutes are LOOOOOOOOOOONG over.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 14, 2023 1:12 AM |
I think the COVID lockdown meted his brain cells.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 14, 2023 1:12 AM |
I don't think his enjoyment of anyone or anything in his private life is none of my business.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 14, 2023 1:22 AM |
He's not wrong, it doesn't.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 14, 2023 2:32 AM |
I stopped watching him a few years ago. Too much of a right-winger for me to put up with.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 14, 2023 2:36 AM |
HIV is very definitely the cause of AIDS and years of work were put into creating it in a lab.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 14, 2023 3:09 AM |
Some of his views have always been fucked up. He's an anti-vaxxer. Also, have you seen his YouTube show where he gets plowed with booze and weed? Not cute. For years he was so sanctimonious about the environment when he was riding the private jet thing everywhere (he "confessed" to this recently, as if we couldn't figure it out). He's deadly unfunny, especially when he laughs at his own jokes before the punchline. How he succeeded as a comedian is beyond me.
He's full of contradictions and stupid statements but he can also be provocative.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 14, 2023 3:29 AM |
I remember a show a few years ago, he obsessed over his neighbor's Christmas lights. He went on and on about how stupid the people were to decorate using Christmas lights. He's tiresome.

Bill is great!
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 14, 2023 4:12 AM |
Tedious.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 14, 2023 5:47 AM |
I am a big fan. I've watched his show religiously for years. He's moved a bit too far to right for me recently, but that doesn't bother me. I can handle people with different ideas and priorities.
But not scabs. The one issue I don't ever bend on is labor. As much as I wish TV was back, having Real Time is a fucking slap in the face to everything the writers are fighting for.
This is unforgivable for me. And Maher knows better. If he was really concerned about his non writing staff? He could have done what Kimmel, Myers and Colbert are doing. Starting a podcast and giving the proceeds to their staff.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 14, 2023 7:39 AM |
Even when he had "Politically Incorrect" he would get visibly angry when his jokes did not land and the audience did not laugh. After a couple of seasons on HBO I stopped watching. He is a sanctimonious right-winger and embraces all the right-wing loon conspiracies.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 14, 2023 8:18 AM |
He eventually won me over in the old days, as I was not originally a fan. I think the story about John Waters blowing him during a sleepover finally opened my mind a bit. I have noticed a decline in recent years, combined with a decided shift to the right. The fact that he can’t decide on a hair color is also telling I think. He looks increasingly unkempt as well. The first professional thing I noticed was a noticeable change in guests: far fewer Black folks. Other than occasional, Black RWNJs, African-Americans just seemed to disappear from his show. The cozying up to Rogan was bizarre and distasteful, but the last straw for me was his public blow job on Felon Musky. Repulsive and shocking. The decision about becoming a scab was just confirmation that I had done the right thing. His twilight years are not going to be fun. Good luck, have fun, Bill!

by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 14, 2023 8:27 AM |
He was supposed to have Kara Swisher on his show right after the strike started.
She’s been planning to set him straight on Musk. Can’t wait for that. She’s much smarter than he is.

My desk lamp is smarter than he is.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 14, 2023 11:36 AM |
Over the last year of so, he’s developed this thing where he will focus on some outrageous but highly isolated case of liberals pushing something too far.
Like, say, a tiny company where the CEO once told white employees it’s their fault Blacks were persecuted.
So he turns it into some rant about how liberals are out of control but IT’S AN ISOLATED INCIDENT AND NOT A LARGER TREND.
He will say that’s at least as bad as what the GOP mainstream is up to.
It’s a ridiculously false equivalency that reveals he’s become a disaffected old man screaming at clouds.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 14, 2023 2:27 PM |
He lost his shit over some weirdo teacher in Canada who wore giant prosthetic breasts, for some reason, and demanded that trans activists and all liberals and the Democratic party explain themselves based on this one pathetic anecdote that wasn't even in America.
It's weird and sad.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 14, 2023 2:43 PM |
OT but that Christine Maggiore was a giant horror of an idiot. Killed her own 3-year-old daughter because of her stupid beliefs.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 14, 2023 2:45 PM |
Used to like him a lot. And I appreciate that he’s never been on any bandwagon, recognizing that the best ground for the country is often somewhere between either side.
And he likes to be provocative.
But I don’t feel like a recognize or respect him anymore.
And I love weed but… Bill, too much, maybe?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 14, 2023 4:29 PM |
Bill is your typical boomer: ex-hippie, free love, power-to-the-people in his youth; reactionary, hard-core neo-fascist in his doddering old age.

How about when he went on and on about donating 1M to the Dems? Tiresome and pathetic. He's also changed his tune about the homos in the last few years but he thought being gay was the joke. He still can't say gay without chuckling. Ass.

by Anonymous | reply 42 | September 14, 2023 5:53 PM |
Did anyone watch/listen to his interview with David Spade on his podcast? David came across so much better than Bill. Intelligent, reasonable, humble. Bill was downright rude and frankly, delusional. He kept comparing himself to David, saying "guys who look like us" or "guys our age". Bitch, please. David may not be hot but he's at least three notches above Bill in the looks department and he's way younger too.
It's also becoming obvious he regrets not getting married. David has never been married either and rarely brings it up because you can tell he's comfortable with his decision. Bill shoehorns his anti-marriage stance into every conversation--related, or not--because he's insecure about it.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | September 14, 2023 6:18 PM |
I used to think that Bill Maher never wanted to marry because he just prefers life as a unattached bachelor without commitments. It is my evolved opinion now that he's just too much of a self-absorbed asshole to ever be in a long-term relationship, let alone a marriage.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | September 14, 2023 6:30 PM |

He blamedHa4vey Weinstein and other sexual abusers’ wives for rape. “Is t ut ovius why these guys behave like this? They’re all married! They’re not being satisfied at home!”
Oh riiiiight it’s Harvey Weinstein’s wife’s fault that he has a gangrenous penis and wants anal sex.

So this guy is so delusionally arrogant he thinks Americans simply can't be deprived any more of his "humor" and his "wit" so he's going to go on national TV for a full hour and shoot the shit with a bunch of other blowhards without benefits of a writing staff? Americans are losing sleep because we're not getting a weekly dose of Bill Maher, Andrew "Milky Loads" Sullivan and Ann Coulter and their collective beautiful minds?
If anybody thinks smoking copious amounts of pot doesn't destroy brain cells obviously hasn't met Bill Maher.

R58 that's not a position that he changed though. And if you think he doesnt think Trump is as bad as the woke shit you should listen to that last recent Rogan episode he did.
That said he is the only liberal (or one of the few) calling out the utter bs from the "woke left" right now which makes actual fucking sense because who else will? Should it not be called out?
by Anonymous | reply 64 | September 14, 2023 9:58 PM |
R40, the NIAID put out an excellent article debunking the HIV denialist myths. Unfortunately, it's more than twenty years old. Maher obviously knows very little about the subject and is easily misled.
HIV denialism was more understandable back in the 1980s when only AZT was available. Now the drugs that are available are much better and people are living much longer. The new drugs were developed based on the structure of HIV and the way it acts. If HIV were correlated to AIDS and not the cause, that would not be the case.

"No, the point is you're a dumbass who thinks that the destruction of democracy is the same level of bad as some people trying too hard"
No you dumbass, the difference is 99% of the media is already addressing that shit. So GOD FORBID Maher talk about other things that also fucking matter.
Give it a rest and admit that you hate that he's not toe-ing the line and has the balls to be self critical of his side. You want him to repeat the same cnn corporate liberal shit ad naseum because you're scared that he may, you know, be right in some things and the untarnished immaculate image you have of yourself and your political tribe might suffer.
And yes democracy is important and what happened on Jan 6 was an embarassment to the country but it's been 2 and a half years and people are having to answer for it and meanwhile the world keeps on turning and alot of stupid shit is happening NOW.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | September 15, 2023 1:49 AM |
No the media is not talking about it or you would know that 99% of attacks on free speech come from the right, where they have been coming afor the entire run of Maher's show. Of course if he had dared ever to point this out, he wouldn't have a show.
