These Osmonds are doing more than their share of procreating. Geez. On average, they probably have 9 children, each.
He should dye his hair a lighter shade.

I wonder how well-funded the Osmond family is?
As an "eldergay," I vaguely remember the Osmonds on TV, then the introduction of Marie to the entertainment world, followed by "The Donny and Marie Show." Jimmy Osmond arrived a bit later, but the entertainment world was shifting.
So over the decades, did so many Osmonds get by? Were Donny & Marie's earnings shared within the family, which was probably a corporation as well? I think little Jimmy turned out to be quite the financial whiz and theatrical producer, so did he contribute to bank as well?
And it's one thing for Donny, Marie, Jimmy et al generation to make bank for all, but if each sibling from that generation has five (5) kids, there are so many more family's to support.
How do they do it?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 8, 2023 9:45 AM |
They all also had years and years of touring in Branson
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 8, 2023 9:51 AM |
I saw Donny's son (Chris) on Claim to Fame recently.
For those who aren't aware, it's a silly TV show where relatives of celebrities compete for a cash prize which they win if their fellow contestants can't guess who they're related to.
Anyway I thought his son pinged to high heaven. Apparently he's married to a woman, but they're Mormons after all.

r18, but "the act" also suffers from having done almost entirely remakes of previously popular songs; this includes the solo work. I believe the only originals they hit with were "One Bad Apple", "Down by the River" and "Crazy Horses"; maybe Jimmy's "Long Haired Lover from Liverpool".

Let's be real. The Jackson 5 put out better music than the Osmonds.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 8, 2023 2:09 PM |
R25 Exactly. Even The Partridge Family has more memorable music than The Osmonds.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 8, 2023 4:10 PM |
"One Bad Apple" was also used as the theme to The Osmonds cartoon show on ABC-TV. It is the only song in the Osmonds' repertoire that continues to receive any appreciable airplay on oldies radio, and even then its airplay is much lower than comparable hits of the era (most of the Osmonds' other songs get no airplay at all).[5] -Wikipedia

I’m R2. Botox. Wig. Whatever. He looks great. Without wig (or are they plugs?) he looks good (a downgrade). I get that no one cares & he was a minor teen pop star but I stand by my post. I’d like to look that good at his age.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 8, 2023 6:14 PM |
t looks like he overused fillers and hair dye. He'd look better if he lost a few pounds and went natural with his skin and hair. He's still appearing in Las Vegas and probably is trying to look young for the act.
I saw him and Marie there about 15 years ago. It was a fun show. I'm not a devotee but was there on business and went along with the crowd. The show was entertaining, better than expected.

R25 there is no comparison between the Jackson 5 and the Osmonds. Jackson 5 was an amazing group. Osmonds were sissies and cuteness all in one package. I despised the song, “ Paper Roses.”

by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 12, 2023 1:26 AM |
It's a Mormon thing, every Mormon I have even known from high school on talked about having at least 6 kids! I had a straight friend that dated a girl back then and when she started talking about that, he broke it off real quick. The only gay one I know has no kids, but turned from an "independent" to full on Trumpeter so that friendship took a dive. All of them, the ones I knew are millionaires. Money is a thing with them.

[quote]they didn't get the credit for their act that the Jackson 5 did (who came after them)
Both groups were around in the early1960s.
But the Jackson 5 became popular when they started recording for Motown and had their first single I Want You Back in 1969.
The Osmonds didn't become popular until they started recording for MGM Records and had their first single with them.(One Bad Apple) in 1970.
It was easy to do a side by side comparison of the two groups because (for me than a few of us) the Jacksons made much better music.
The Osmond were bland.

Mormons are all about family r53. Wholesome as white bread and whole milk. They actually cut their brothers out of the gig since Donny and Marie were the only two out of the pack that stood out. He was the only semi-cute one and she was the only girl.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | September 13, 2023 11:18 PM |
R55 and others, read the book "Under the Banner of Heaven" - the fundamentalist Mormons are c-r-a-z-y. All about family? Well, read about the slaughter of a portion of one family...
I am NOT including the Osmonds in the c-r-a-z-i-e-s, they've can't be; they've got too much invested in the entertainment industry and that's what pays the bills for ALL of them.

The Osmonds famously lost all their money when, thinking the gravy train would last forever, they invested every cent they had in a huge state-of-the-art recording, TV, and film studio in Orem, UT, failing to realize that the tide had already turned against that kind of uber-clean, wholesome family entertainment.
They moved production of "The Donny and Marie Show" to the studio from L.A., only to see the show cancelled after only one season there. At that point, all of their careers went into a tailspin, and they had nothing coming in to pay the bills. Donny, ever the obedient Mormon son, has never placed the blame for this colossal faux-pas on anybody, but I got the distinct impression in certain interviews that it was the father's idea and fault.
"Goin' Coconuts", Donny and Marie's first (and last) starring film vehicle released in 1978, proved to be an embarrassing flop, although the soundtrack did eventually go gold. It was the last gasp of the first phase of the Osmonds' career.
You gotta give these bitches credit, though. They all managed to pick themselves up and eventually make something of themselves.
"Little" Jimmy ( who should really re-name himself "Fat-Ass" Jimmy) became some sort of financial mogul.
It took Marie about 7 years to start having some major hits on the country charts. It was an out-of-left-field comeback that nobody saw coming.
The older brothers went all country like Marie, but weren't successful, and eventually wound up in Branson, which proved to be a pretty good outcome for them.
And Donny took his ass to Broadway, first with the humiliating failure of a revival of an 80-year-old musical, "Little Johnny Jones", that closed after one performance. He then found big success starring in "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat".
With the names of Donny & Marie no longer poison in the industry, they wound up starring in their own fairly successful daytime talk show, and Donny even managed to rack up a few more hit records.
Their recent run in Vegas was, by all accounts, super successful, and a great way for them both to go out on top as a sibling act. Say what you will about their musical output over the years, but those two have been in the game practically since they could walk, and know more about entertaining an audience than most performers. And that's what I heard from a lot of people who saw the show...they weren't big fans, they went in not expecting much, and were subsequently blown away by just how great they were.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | September 14, 2023 5:16 AM |
all very true R61 and Donny's success with "Joseph" was well-deserved and helped by his very, very nice body that got displayed performance after performance. Donny performed hairy (oh yea) or shaved (boo).
I think you left out one part of the families income, those Marie-designed dolls that she hawked on QVC for some time. Yikes, they were scary, but some fraus just loved them and made many, many purchases.
I give the family props - they never became the multicar train wreck that defines the Jackson clan.

Bruce Vilanch tells a hilarious story about all the writers from “The Donny and Marie Show” being invited to Marie’s first wedding to Steve Craig.
They were flown to Utah, but because they were Jewish they were not allowed into the church and had the sit outside on lawn chairs during the wedding ceremony.
