Batdance was more of a cultural phenomenon rather than a "best." It is distinctive and memorable for the time period.

Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam - "Let the Beat Hit 'Em"

Her final hit. It got played so much in the LA area that I got sick of hearing it. Don't think I've heard it since. It's definitely of its time, and typical of that era of dance music, with all the dumb spoken-word drop-ins.

Georgio - I Don't Want 2 B Alone

This guy was seen at the time very much as nothing but a Prince clone.

He was very talented, though...like Prince, he wrote and produced all of his own stuff.

His first album had some really funky jams ("Sexappeal", "Lovers Lane", "Bedrock", and my favorite "Tina Cherry"), none of which crossed over to pop, but did really well on either the R&B or dance charts, or both.

This was the first single from his second album, and the first time he'd put out a ballad as a single. It got played a lot on the radio in my area, but it didn't do well nationally. Subsequently, the album flopped as well, and his label, Motown, dropped him.

Rick's '88 "Rock of Life" album didn't give his the big US comeback he craved.

He should've named it after this song below & released it as his lead single.
