Goat and prunes!

Ingredients: - 1 kg goat meat, cut into bite-sized pieces - 1 cup dried prunes - 2 onions, finely chopped - 4 cloves of garlic, minced - 2-inch piece of ginger, grated - 2 tomatoes, chopped - 2 tablespoons vegetable oil - 2 teaspoons ground coriander - 1 teaspoon ground cumin - 1 teaspoon turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to your taste) - 1 teaspoon garam masala - Salt to taste - Fresh coriander leaves for garnish - Cooked basmati rice or naan bread for serving

Instructions: 1. Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and cook until golden brown and caramelized. 2. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the pot. Stir and cook for another minute. 3. Add the ground coriander, cumin, turmeric, and red chili powder to the pot. Stir well to coat the onions with the spices. 4. Add the goat meat to the pot and cook until browned on all sides. This will help seal in the flavors. 5. Once the meat is browned, add the chopped tomatoes and salt. Mix well and let it cook until the tomatoes soften. 6. Add enough water to cover the meat and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the meat is tender. 7. Once the meat is tender, add the dried prunes to the pot. Simmer for an additional 10-15 minutes until the prunes plump up and become soft. 8. Sprinkle garam masala over the curry and give it a final stir. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. 9. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed basmati rice or naan bread.

Enjoy your flavorful goat and prune curry! Let me know if you need help with anything else.

I approve of the garam masala usage. You finish with garam masala, you never begin with it.

by Anonymousreply 4September 7, 2023 8:54 PM

R2 yes but it won’t be as flavorful

You should also remind readers that coriander and cumin are the kind of spices that take roasting before grinding to prevent an upset stomach

Umm, aren't prunes dried plums? There's no need to say dried prunes.

by Anonymousreply 7September 7, 2023 9:24 PM

Well, that’ll get the mail moving…

Greg and both his followers and detractors waste FAR too much bandwidth on DL

by Anonymousreply 9September 8, 2023 12:45 PM

R2 Don't you like it stringy?

by Anonymousreply 10September 8, 2023 12:51 PM

OP, I can't catch the little fucker! The goat outruns me every time!

by Anonymousreply 11September 8, 2023 12:53 PM

Three things -

I'd rather use lamb.

That seems like a lot of turmeric.

Most curried lamb dishes - and I suspect goat would be the same - that I make include either ground cinnamon or cinnamon stick (as well as the garam masala which includes cinnamon)
