Elvis Presley’s natural hair color was a muddy golden blonde

Did you know that? He started to dye his hair pitch black because it “improved” his facial features, especially on film and television. People seem to think he actually had black hair but he didn’t.

Natural blonde Austin Butler was truly perfectly cast.

This is internet knowledge. It's there for those who care to look.

by Anonymousreply 3September 7, 2023 1:08 PM

Doesn’t make him any less good looking, IMO.

He reminds me of Simon LeBon in R2’s photo- without the Simon nose. Simon was always my favorite of the Duran Duran guys.

by Anonymousreply 4September 7, 2023 1:11 PM

R4 who said it made him less good looking?

by Anonymousreply 5September 7, 2023 1:14 PM

R3 ok. Your point?

by Anonymousreply 6September 7, 2023 1:28 PM

He was two headed as a child.

It’s interesting because most natural blondes can’t do black hair, it’s too harsh and aging. Elvis looked great though. There’s a British actor, Sam Reid who looks much better with black hair than his natural blond.

by Anonymousreply 12September 7, 2023 2:20 PM

Incidentally, I recently learned that tough guy Mickey Milkovich from US Shameless is really a blond.

by Anonymousreply 16September 7, 2023 2:42 PM

They have reddish pubic hair.

by Anonymousreply 17September 7, 2023 2:48 PM

R17 what? Lmao. No.

by Anonymousreply 18September 7, 2023 2:51 PM

Here he is leaving the Army. Unless they smuggled a bottle of Medium Ash Brown to him before release, he is a brunette.

by Anonymousreply 19September 7, 2023 2:52 PM

He admired the look of Captain Marvel, Jr. and his black hair.

by Anonymousreply 20September 7, 2023 2:52 PM

He was a natural Sandy blonde. In black and white that’s easy to translate to darker than lighter

by Anonymousreply 21September 7, 2023 2:54 PM

I'm sure Elvis' sandy blond hair would get bleached in the sun as an adult... if he'd let it.

by Anonymousreply 22September 7, 2023 3:17 PM

It was noted he dyed his hair before he went to the army and then let his natural color grow out while there.

by Anonymousreply 23September 7, 2023 3:21 PM

He dyed it to look like Tony Curtis...thats the reason he gave.

by Anonymousreply 24September 7, 2023 3:25 PM

BREAKING: DOLLY PARTON WEARS WIGS!

by Anonymousreply 25September 7, 2023 3:29 PM

Made him more relatable to the more ethnic folks. You didn't see a lot of black hair on white boys in the South in those days.

by Anonymousreply 26September 7, 2023 3:30 PM

R26 ummm no. You didn’t see a lot of BLACK hair on anyone in those days. Brown hair and pitch black hair are not the same. Actual black hair is rare. Most people were brunette, even in “those days”.

by Anonymousreply 27September 7, 2023 3:32 PM

Oh god, you sound like my third grade teacher. We had to draw a picture of our fathers and I colored his with black hair. She said nobody had black hair, it was dark dark dark brown. Jesus lady, I think I know what color my father’s hair was. BLACK.

by Anonymousreply 28September 7, 2023 3:45 PM

it took decades for me to realize how beautiful looking he was...

by Anonymousreply 29September 7, 2023 4:09 PM

R28 maybe his was actually black. But that’s a rarity.

by Anonymousreply 30September 7, 2023 4:11 PM

[quote] Here he is leaving the Army. Unless they smuggled a bottle of Medium Ash Brown to him before release, he is a brunette.

He could've dyed his hair while in the Army. No need to smuggle hair dye.

by Anonymousreply 31September 7, 2023 4:19 PM

Not to sound pedantic, but...

Blonde = female

Blond = male

Brunette = female

Brunet = male

by Anonymousreply 32September 7, 2023 4:27 PM

Elvis Presley started dying his hair black for his career because he felt it looked better on him and worked better with his facial features for television and film and photos than blonde. He also wanted to emulate certain movie stars he looked up to.

His debut single came out in 1954. His debut album came out in 1956. He left for the army in 1958. He had already started dying his at least 4 years before he left for the army. It’s basic math. While in the army his natural hair color grew back out and he cut off the black. When he came back to work on his career again he went black again.

by Anonymousreply 33September 7, 2023 4:27 PM

OP, you ain't nothin' but a hound dog.

by Anonymousreply 34September 7, 2023 4:35 PM

I think most people think Elvis left for the army before his career as a performer took off, but he was already famous when he left for the army. He had like 9 #1 hits under his belt already when he left for the army in 1958.

by Anonymousreply 35September 7, 2023 4:38 PM

That's exactly what happened in BYE BYE BIRDIE, which was inspired by Elvis being drafted into the army at the height of his popularity.

by Anonymousreply 36September 7, 2023 4:40 PM

R28 your father probably did have actual black hair but that is not common in white people. Most white people have different variations of brown hair, followed by blonde variations and then red variations. You will find more white gingers in this world than white people with natural BLACK hair.

Black hair is common in Asians and Black people though, as well as Native Americans.

From Wikipedia:

“The singles discography of Elvis Presley began in 1954 with the release of his first commercial single, "That's All Right". Following his regional success with Sun Records, Presley was signed to RCA Victor on November 20, 1955. Presley's first single with RCA, "Heartbreak Hotel", was a worldwide hit, reaching the No. 1 position in four countries and the top 10 in many other countries. Other hit singles from the 1950s include "Hound Dog", "Don't Be Cruel", "Love Me Tender", "Too Much", "All Shook Up", "(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear", "Jailhouse Rock", "Don't", "Hard Headed Woman" and "A Big Hunk o' Love". On March 24, 1958, Presley entered the United States Army at Memphis, Tennessee, and was stationed in Germany. He left active duty on March 5, 1960.“

He already had a shit ton of hits and was a global star when he left for the army r19. His hair was dyed there. This was him shortly before going back home from the army. The black was gone.

R17 I don’t know about most but I had blond hair as a kid and reddish pubes, yeah. Still do but my hair got darker.

by Anonymousreply 39September 7, 2023 4:53 PM

You had reddish pubes as a kid? We don’t have pubic hair as kids.

by Anonymousreply 40September 7, 2023 4:55 PM

R40 So what is a 12-13 year old, an adult?

by Anonymousreply 41September 7, 2023 5:00 PM

A teenager

by Anonymousreply 42September 7, 2023 5:07 PM

Tweenager

Tween = 8 -12

Teenager = 13-19

by Anonymousreply 43September 8, 2023 5:55 AM

My dad and my husband both have actual black hair.

As far as Elvis is concerned, the black hair can bit a bit too harsh in some of his films, but he was gorgeous, no matter what.

by Anonymousreply 44September 8, 2023 7:29 AM

Lisa Marie was born almost a white blond…what was Pricilla’s natural color? Was it light brown.

by Anonymousreply 45September 8, 2023 1:29 PM

R27 You're fun

by Anonymousreply 46September 8, 2023 2:00 PM

Thanks r48 I only remember her are having dyed jet black hair ala Elvis

by Anonymousreply 49September 8, 2023 2:05 PM

Did Elvis dye his hair himself or did his barber do it?

by Anonymousreply 50September 8, 2023 2:11 PM

R49 the black was dyed.

by Anonymousreply 51September 8, 2023 2:29 PM

R12, Sam Reid is Australian.

by Anonymousreply 52September 8, 2023 5:26 PM

It’s the same thing with black cats...they are actually more of a dark mink color. All black cats will show brown in the sun....

We used to show poodles back in the day..the “black” poodles were always dyed a jet black..the judges faulted a dog with red undertones even thought it was real and the jet black wasnt

by Anonymousreply 53September 8, 2023 5:46 PM

R43 an 8 year old is a kid. Not a tween. Wtf.

by Anonymousreply 54September 8, 2023 6:25 PM

R54 Probably Bryan Singer mathematics. A bit scary.

by Anonymousreply 55September 8, 2023 11:42 PM

R42 R43 Where I come from (Earth) tweens and teens are often referred to as kids. I didn’t say “child”, I said “kid.” When I was a teen we used the word kid about each other, “He’s a nice kid,” etc. It’s not a precise term.

by Anonymousreply 56September 9, 2023 6:07 AM

R9 Excuse me but why is "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" the soundtrack for the "Blonde Elvis" video. WTAF? I wouldn't call him blonde. He has the same coloring everyone in my family has and we're 99% British/Irish on Ancestry dot com. Blonde or light brown as babies and tots, then lighter brown as adults, or just plain mousy. And he dyed his hair black which we all know.

But "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen?"

WHY?

by Anonymousreply 57September 9, 2023 6:48 AM

I wouldn't mind seeing his nudes from his hot days, he was gorgeous

by Anonymousreply 58September 9, 2023 7:37 AM

He had a small cock apparently.

by Anonymousreply 59September 10, 2023 9:21 AM

R57 Maybe I’m missing the leap of logic but what does your ancestry have to do with you or Elvis having this hair color? People of that ancestry would have several possible hair colors.

by Anonymousreply 60September 13, 2023 11:46 AM

He forced Priscilla to dyed hers black, too. Shame because she was prettier with her naturally lighter hair.

by Anonymousreply 61September 13, 2023 12:01 PM

How did he force her?

by Anonymousreply 62September 13, 2023 12:17 PM

Elaine Dundy's Elvis and Gladys goes into this fact quite deeply. A very well researched and written book. I highly recommend it. I was lucky to meet the author on several occasions.

Another blonde-to-black celeb was Joan Bennett. Like her sister Constance, was a honey blonde. Dyed it for a film role and liked the effect. Also made her slightly resemble Hedy Lamarr.

by Anonymousreply 65September 13, 2023 1:10 PM

Also Cole Sprouse.
