Elvis Presley’s natural hair color was a muddy golden blonde
Did you know that? He started to dye his hair pitch black because it “improved” his facial features, especially on film and television. People seem to think he actually had black hair but he didn’t.
Natural blonde Austin Butler was truly perfectly cast.

Doesn’t make him any less good looking, IMO.
He reminds me of Simon LeBon in R2’s photo- without the Simon nose. Simon was always my favorite of the Duran Duran guys.

It’s interesting because most natural blondes can’t do black hair, it’s too harsh and aging. Elvis looked great though. There’s a British actor, Sam Reid who looks much better with black hair than his natural blond.

Incidentally, I recently learned that tough guy Mickey Milkovich from US Shameless is really a blond.

He was a natural Sandy blonde. In black and white that’s easy to translate to darker than lighter

I'm sure Elvis' sandy blond hair would get bleached in the sun as an adult... if he'd let it.

R26 ummm no. You didn’t see a lot of BLACK hair on anyone in those days. Brown hair and pitch black hair are not the same. Actual black hair is rare. Most people were brunette, even in “those days”.

Elvis Presley started dying his hair black for his career because he felt it looked better on him and worked better with his facial features for television and film and photos than blonde. He also wanted to emulate certain movie stars he looked up to.
His debut single came out in 1954. His debut album came out in 1956. He left for the army in 1958. He had already started dying his at least 4 years before he left for the army. It’s basic math. While in the army his natural hair color grew back out and he cut off the black. When he came back to work on his career again he went black again.

I think most people think Elvis left for the army before his career as a performer took off, but he was already famous when he left for the army. He had like 9 #1 hits under his belt already when he left for the army in 1958.

R28 your father probably did have actual black hair but that is not common in white people. Most white people have different variations of brown hair, followed by blonde variations and then red variations. You will find more white gingers in this world than white people with natural BLACK hair.
Black hair is common in Asians and Black people though, as well as Native Americans.

From Wikipedia:
“The singles discography of Elvis Presley began in 1954 with the release of his first commercial single, "That's All Right". Following his regional success with Sun Records, Presley was signed to RCA Victor on November 20, 1955. Presley's first single with RCA, "Heartbreak Hotel", was a worldwide hit, reaching the No. 1 position in four countries and the top 10 in many other countries. Other hit singles from the 1950s include "Hound Dog", "Don't Be Cruel", "Love Me Tender", "Too Much", "All Shook Up", "(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear", "Jailhouse Rock", "Don't", "Hard Headed Woman" and "A Big Hunk o' Love". On March 24, 1958, Presley entered the United States Army at Memphis, Tennessee, and was stationed in Germany. He left active duty on March 5, 1960.“
He already had a shit ton of hits and was a global star when he left for the army r19. His hair was dyed there. This was him shortly before going back home from the army. The black was gone.

R9 Excuse me but why is "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" the soundtrack for the "Blonde Elvis" video. WTAF? I wouldn't call him blonde. He has the same coloring everyone in my family has and we're 99% British/Irish on Ancestry dot com. Blonde or light brown as babies and tots, then lighter brown as adults, or just plain mousy. And he dyed his hair black which we all know.
But "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen?"
WHY?
