R2- Yes, the ship departed from Rome and finished in Rome making several stops in Italy and it also stopped in Monaco ( we saw the Grand Casino there where Lucy and Ethel freaked out because they kept winning all those Francs- I didn't know French money was so big! That was such a good episode. Our last stop was in Ibiza.

R4- I didn't mention this in my opening paragraph but I caught a bit of a cold from someone on the ship. I did not engage in ANY sexual activities on the Royal Carribean Odyssey. I was light years from any action. That bothered me too that no one seemed to notice me. When returning home yesterday I had a stopover at Heathrow and buzzed the security check thing and this good looking young bearded guy had to frisk me down- my pants were falling down too because I had to take off my belt earlier. He was so polite and so nice and cute and apologetic.

R10- Just the Atlantis Events people were gay not the over 1000 crew members on the ship- I'm sure in small numbers some of them are probably gay.

What do dataloungers think of this. I met a doctor at lunch during a tour one day. He was pleasant and traveling alone like me but had a husband and a young child at home. Meanwhile he was off on a gay cruise while his husband was traveling for business leaving the poor child at home with a nannie or someone. He said he needs to get away from his family because even on vacations he feels he's always ON CALL taking care of either his son's or his husbands health care needs. Hmm- There are gay trips that involve small number of gay men going on trips together that aren't about going to nightclubs in Ibiza - like this cruise. But he chooses a vacation on a shIp with over 3,000 HOMOS many of whom are SCENE QUEENS who want to have as much sex as possible. Let me say that he was not a tank top wearing scene queen. He was very low key and pleasant- but still. One does not go on these cruises ALONE even with a husband and a kid at home to be CELIBATE. Of course this is true for me involuntarily. I've now been on ELEVEN cruises and I've had NO sex on any of them including this one- oh well.

I didn't mention this before but I also went on a cruise in July on a ship called the Oceania Vista. That ship was much smaller- only about 1,100 passengers. I did NOT get seasick nor a cold and I met some really nice people on some of the tours. I mentioned all this in another thread. Like R20 says - There are ALL types of people on these cruises. Yes, the scene queen/indoctrinated types do seem to predominate but you can meet even low key non scene type of guys on these cruises. Next year I might go to London or Vancouver on my own for a few days.

I've heard that you're supposed to go on deck if you're seasick, not stay in your little cabin rockin' and rollin' with the waves. of course the crew probably don't tell you that because they don't want you running to toilets on deck to puke.

Also, I don't understand; was it a gay Atlantis tour on an large ship that had other regular travellers onboard? I thought when this is the case virtually anybody can get action in the ship saunas with the married guys while they escape their wives.

R24- No, the cruise I returned from a week ago was STRICTLY homos. No straights. Atlantis Events buys out all of the rooms on the ship and then resells them to gay boys such as myself. If they were not exagerating at Atlantis Events there were about 4,000 queens on this recent cruise.

I did not make any friends on this cruise but I met some nice people on the cruise in July. On the last day of the cruise I had just left the Tea Dance and I got on an elevator to go back to my room to have dinner when three or four guys got on the elevator. R38- Overall I do enjoy these type of cruises. One problem is many of the people on the cruises are couples, some are traveling with friends but only a small percentage are like me, traveling by themselves which makes it more difficult to meet people on the ship. The last cruise I met some nice people one or two were traveling alone but in most cases it was because their partner did not go on the tour that day for one reason or another.

I mean, maybe my experience was atypical, but I did their big circuit party cruise (with a group of friends) back in February. I admit that I am fractionally more appealing as a well-groomed muscle daddy than I was in my prior incarnation as a big fat fatty, but I’m hardly an Instaho. I still managed to get laid every single day, often more than once a day. Are Virgin Voyages gay cruises?

Atlantis is going to have at least three full-ship VV charters next year, a Caribbean one from San Juan in March (I’ll be on that one), and two in Europe—one Athens to Barcelona and the other Barcelona to London—in the summer.

I’m actually considering doing one of the Europe sailings as well. I don’t think they’ve opened stuff up for alumni who weren’t on one of their European cruises this year just yet. But I’m definitely thinking about it.

Granted, I have three trips planned and all of them are party-adjacent, so maybe I should do something more sedate over the summer.

This is really tangential, but I found out on a bus tour once about the apparently very large community of cruisers, going from cruise to cruise to cruise, multiples per year; posting on cruising boards with their signatures listing their ships; knowing all the tips, hacks, ins and outs; etc.

This thread eventually becomes relevant again. I did just come back from a gay cruise this morning. Had a great time (despite the mediocre food on board). There was a very friendly and accepting atmosphere on board -and not just from the crew. All the passengers were nice to each other. Everyone said "hello" and "good morning" and groups of strangers seated together in the dining room had long conversations. You know -kind of like the old days when people were civil in public. Yes, there were some wild parties. Yes, there was a lot of sex on the dick deck. All in all, a great week and I can't wait to go back!

Yes, R84, I was sailing alone (I always do). The cruise was the Atlantis Mexican Riviera on RCCL's Navigator of the Seas. I was told the average age was 49. The oldest I met was 93; the youngest was 23. I met passengers from Israel, the UK, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Vietnam, China, Australia, Ireland, Italy, Austria, and the Czech Republic. The Americans were from all over the country, but predominantly from Los Angeles, Palm Springs, San Francisco, and San Diego. As I said before, it was a really friendly group. Atlantis does several events to bring single travelers together (meet-ups, a dinner...) but I found the best way to meet people was to sit in a jacuzzi and strike up a conversation. Meals in the main dining room are on the "anytime" plan, so you go whenever you're hungry. They'll ask you if you want to join a group table, which is another great way to meet people.

R86- I found that the best way/time of meeting people is when you're on a long tour/excursion for the day. I meet some nice people during those tours.

Royal Caribbean refused to give Atlantis the better of their two private islands, and Atlantis didn’t want us mixing with the normies, so for the January cruise, we’re skipping the Bahamas and going to San Juan now.

And their fall SoCal cruise is on HAL out of San Diego. I hope things haven’t soured with Royal Caribbean. I was hoping they’d get the ginormous Icon of the Seas for the big cruise in 2025.

Also, Atlantis added another Europe sailing, to the French Riviera and Ibiza in July, on Scarlet Lady.

I found out about two and half weeks ago. Atlantis Events has put me on a waiting list for a room with a terrace- that's the type of room I like. I bet some queen or queens will cancel and I can buy the room. They told me no phone calls. They will just send me an email which I must respond to in 24 hours or they will release the room to someone else. For the last two and a half weeks I've been checking my emails every day- 2 or 3 times.
