I imagine the kids inherited a very nice chunk of change. Are they so money hungry they are selling hugely sentimental personal pieces from one of the most iconic Hollywood romances? Personally, I could never part with those rings or the whistle. This makes me sda.
I can't believe Bacall/Bogart's kids put this stuff up for auction
by Anonymous | reply 64 | October 20, 2023 3:28 AM |
Is "sda" the same as "dyslexic," MAYR?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | September 7, 2023 12:40 AM |
Are you a hoarder?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 7, 2023 12:40 AM |
Wow -- that's sad.

Can not get enough of these celebrity auctions
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 7, 2023 12:42 AM |
I would not auction my parent's wedding rings. But this? Yes. This will bring in a nice sum. The bid is already at 100k.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 7, 2023 12:44 AM |
I get what you're saying, OP, but at what point does one keep holding on to these sorts of things? Their kids might think "Eh, these are cool." Their kids' kids will certainly sell them off and they'll be worth way less by then, because that generation won't understand the 'magic' of Bacall/Bogart, etc.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 7, 2023 12:44 AM |
R5, the worlds most expensive rape whistle! Though I assume it’s really for hailing cabs.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 7, 2023 12:47 AM |
It would be one thing to do it immediately after their deaths, but it's been years.
The only questionable items are the wedding rings.
Whateve value these items might have is slowly declining as the people who have any idea who Bogart and Bacall are die.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 7, 2023 12:48 AM |
Who would want to keep this stuff. Where would you put it. Let collectors buy it. I bet some of you have messy, messy houses.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 7, 2023 12:49 AM |
While HER reputation continues to decline over the years as more people find out who she really was mine continues to grow. All of my things are in a storage container in Reseda for which my non lesbian lover has the key. My things will go for ten times the amount! Cult status here I come! Cunt status is yours forever.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 7, 2023 12:51 AM |
Almost all that stuff is ugly and clunky.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 7, 2023 12:57 AM |
R10 Tubi has a shit ton of Lisabeth Scott movies and I have come to love her. I didn’t know who she was before this year.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 7, 2023 1:18 AM |
The whistle bracelet was placed in the “crypt” with the box containing Bogart’s ashes in 1957.
It was opened in 2014 to place Bacall’s ashes with Bogart’s.
My guess would be Stephen Bogart alone made the decision to remove the bracelet in 2014 and sell it.
He’s been living off his father’s legend for years.
Basically a loser, thrown out of numerous schools, drifted from job to job and married three times.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 7, 2023 2:00 AM |
sda = so damn angry
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 7, 2023 2:02 AM |
R13, The daughter, Leslie Howard Bogart, is married to a well known yoga instructor and they live and teach in California.
Sam Robards, I doubt had any part in this, since Bogart was not his father.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 7, 2023 2:10 AM |
r7 - Tony! You know how to whistle, don't you?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 7, 2023 2:17 AM |
It's just stuff - they have tons of other mementos. If you don't want it and think someone else will cherish it much more than you, why the hell not?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 7, 2023 2:21 AM |
Bacall’s Dakota apartment sold for $21 million.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 7, 2023 2:25 AM |
R5 Why not auction their rings? Is there someone you will leave them to?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 7, 2023 2:35 AM |
I also would have kept their wedding rings and that locket as mementos if I were the kids—that type of thing has sentimental value that far exceeds that of things like cufflinks or cigarette lighters.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 7, 2023 2:38 AM |
Couldn’t some of the items gone to the grandchildren. How hard up is the family for money?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 7, 2023 2:56 AM |
What would you do with your grandparents’ rings?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 7, 2023 3:08 AM |
[quote]What would you do with your grandparents’ rings?
I'd hang them from the nipples, but they'd shock the children.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 7, 2023 3:18 AM |
If they're concerned about the preservation of history, this is a better option than letting grandkids and great-grandkids eventually squabble over (or neglect) these objects. They could sell much more than this tiny collection and would still, between their genomes and memories, 'own' far more of their parents than the public could ever purchase.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 7, 2023 3:47 PM |
Sell all that stuff. Trinkets and baubles. In a few years, no one will remember any of those ancient stars.

Maltese Falcon, Casablanca and The African Queen say otherwise, r27.

R28, “The Big Sleep”, “The Treasure of the Sierra Madre” and “The Caine Mutiny”, as well.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 7, 2023 4:08 PM |
R25, it was a gold key cover presented to Bogart from someone named Clif. I wonder what the dates, a thirty year span, referred to.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 7, 2023 4:15 PM |
The length of their friendship, I assume, r32.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 7, 2023 4:19 PM |
R33, who is Clif? They must have met early in Bogart’s career, given the first date. I was thinking maybe an agent or manager.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 7, 2023 4:26 PM |
r34 - Clifton Webb, Tony. See r33 and r25.

What about her percolator?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 7, 2023 5:13 PM |
For the High Point? It was freeze-dried instant coffee.
You could never get that rich flava from a percolator!

ESTIMATE: $100,000 - $200,000(36 bids)
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 16, 2023 1:42 AM |
You keep the wedding rings and maybe one or two other items for sentimental reasons, and you sell the rest. It's obviously they're not going to wear them, why not get some money for the jewelry while you can?
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 16, 2023 1:57 AM |
What’s so hard to believe? Betty’s been dead for almost a decade, her percolator sadly silent.
At least they auctioned off tasteful, elegant things that the buyers, no doubt affluent homosexuals, will treasure. It could have been worse — like Betty’s huge smelly shoes, the sort of thing you see on some of these auctions.

"The kids" are in their 70s. They can't take any of this stuff with them. And we have no idea what they might be keeping.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 16, 2023 6:07 AM |
Bacall left three children, six grandchildren and there are now two great grandchildren.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 16, 2023 6:42 AM |
Stephen Bogart’s third wife, Carla, posted this on Facebook, which defies what has been published for decades, that the whistle bracelet was placed with Bogart’s ashes.
“The whistle bracelet was never buried with Bogie. Betty kept it...and Steve held onto all these years.“
by Anonymous | reply 47 | October 16, 2023 6:45 AM |
I don't see any of the tulip tumblers anywhere...the kids might be too attached to those, though...
by Anonymous | reply 48 | October 16, 2023 7:47 AM |
I like the heart pendant. But even the wedding rings are hard to use. Some kind of movie or fashion museum might be grateful of the donation - but beyond that they’re unextraordinary wedding rings. And in the meantime they could pay for a few months of good quality nursing care, or education for greatgrandkids.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | October 16, 2023 11:31 AM |
Bacall wasn't left a staggering fortune by Bogart and she lived almost another sixty years. The price of things go up!
Other than the 20 million for her Dakota apartment, I get the feeling Betty didn't leave her kids a big pile of cash that was lying around.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 16, 2023 3:28 PM |
R50, Estate taxes in NY are brutal. The $21 million her Dakota apartment sold for were greatly reduced.
That was the main reason for Jackie’s auction, to pay her NY estate taxes.
Though Jackie’s auction earned $34 million, JFK, Jr. and Caroline only received $100,000.00 each.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | October 16, 2023 4:36 PM |
Sell it. I’d believe they kept what mattered to them. OP why do you care what strangers do?
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 16, 2023 4:39 PM |
The inscribed or engraved heart pendant was the coolest item. It was also the only item that sold above the estimate. Not sure why the estimate was so low on the pendant.

^A stained headboard that Joan Collins included in her 2015 auction.

When you blow into the whistle bracelet, you can distinctly hear “deep brewed flavah.”
by Anonymous | reply 63 | October 17, 2023 6:32 AM |
Bogie was cheap. Some of the jewelry he gave me he just grabbed out of Lauren's jewelry box. He didn't even try to hide the fact. He would just hand me a brown paper bag and say this is for you. He spent a weekend with me and Talulah in Del Mar and later sent us each a different set of her earrings. He personified class.
