Let the love grow...

by Anonymousreply 1September 5, 2023 7:50 PM

Former star of TV's "Angie"!

by Anonymousreply 2September 5, 2023 7:53 PM

I was thrilled to see a lesbian character on daytime (really ANYtime) television.

by Anonymousreply 3September 5, 2023 7:57 PM

Nope, there was a lesbian on Y&R way back in the Seventies, though you can imagine how vaguely it was referenced. Drunken Kay Chancellor was "intrigued" by her, but never went through with it.

by Anonymousreply 4September 5, 2023 8:00 PM

Hardly the first lesbian character on soaps.

She was the first character to openly call herself a lesbian.

She was preceded by Joanne Curtis, who had a brief "fling" with Kay Chancellor on Y&R in 1977.

Also in 1977, bisexual Sharon Duval proclaimed her love to Julie Olsen Williams on Days of Our Lives and Julie promptly rejected her.

I hope Donna's hair stylist won two Emmys for achieving the transformative change in Dr. Lynn's look between the first and last scenes on that video. Did the roomies end up scissoring?

I watched AMC in college and remember Donna's storyline. Honestly, if memory serves, Lynn being gay was handled quite well (maybe for the time, 1983). Pescow's character knew she was gay, there wasn't any vasilating that she may want one of the male characters. Cliff knew she was gay, he didn't seem to care. Then the perpetually confused and unhappy Devon thought she was a lesbian and wanted Dr. Carson.

Devon was rebuffed by Carson.

Did Pesow's character just up and leave Pine Valley? I wonder why... it was such a quiet little 'burg near Center City. Nothing of importance ever happened in Pine Valley!

The Lynn Carson character wasn't on for very long. Seems like it was just 4-6 weeks.

by Anonymousreply 8September 5, 2023 8:51 PM

Devon was such an obvious lesbian. I wish she and Lynn had worked out.

by Anonymousreply 9September 5, 2023 9:47 PM

I wonder if Donna knows she still has fans on DL

by Anonymousreply 10September 5, 2023 10:03 PM

I knew it was coming, thanks to the soap mags, but I was watching with my mother when Devon told Lynn she wants to be her lover and she let an audible yelp. She was shocked.

God, Devon sucked.

That haircut and she couldn't tell?

by Anonymousreply 12September 5, 2023 10:20 PM

Love it seeks, love it finds....

by Anonymousreply 13September 5, 2023 10:22 PM

Devon Sheppard was one of the wimpiest characters ever to grace daytime.

I'm amazed she lasted almost four years on AMC.

No Subaru dealer or Home Depot.

by Anonymousreply 15September 5, 2023 10:26 PM

How was her golf swing?

by Anonymousreply 16September 5, 2023 10:26 PM

The Devon character was just abused by the writers... it was one bad situation after another... her teen girl insecurity got her pregnant, she was an adulteress, an alcoholic, and then she thought she was a lesbian... and that would, what? make her whole?

Man that is a lot in just four years in Pine Valley! She should have left two years earlier.

Didn't daughter Bonnie return to Pine Valley years later and at some point start sleeping with Tad? She was a trainwreck as well, right?

Poor Wally... Devon as an ex-wife and Bonnie as a daughter. What ever happened to him?

by Anonymousreply 17September 5, 2023 10:54 PM

I think you’re confusing Devon with Tad’s first wife, Dottie Thornton. She was Edna Thornton’s daughter and Benny Sago’s stepdaughter.

I think Devon and Bonnie left shortly after Lynn. Their last storyline was related to the introduction of Stuart Chandler-Bonnie met him when Adam had him locked up in the Chandler mansion attic , and Devon and Ellen at first thought it was an imaginary friend.

Angie is lez?

by Anonymousreply 19September 5, 2023 11:25 PM

Anyone know if Donna played that part based on personal experience? She always pinged a little to me on "Angie."

I found Robert Hays so hot on "Angie"- "Airplane"-not so much. He was still pretty good looking when he played Bette's husband for 1 episode on that God awful sitcom of hers. Didn't anyone in her circle of managers, agents, PR people, etc or even her husband for Christ sake read the scripts and tell her what absolute shit it was?

by Anonymousreply 20September 5, 2023 11:28 PM

They wanted Connie Ford, but she contracted to "Another World."

by Anonymousreply 21September 5, 2023 11:29 PM

R18, thanks... I think you're right.

Tricia Pursley Hawkins only has one credit -- a made for TV movie -- on her IMDB page after leaving All My Children.

AMC had a couple of gay male characters in the 90s..Michael Delaney and then Kevin Sheffield, but they weren’t allowed to have full on romances or even a kiss. But when Bianca came out a few years later, she had a series of romances and full on sex scenes.

by Anonymousreply 24September 5, 2023 11:52 PM

I met her during the Saturday Night Fever mania. Does anybody remember how good she was in that movie.? Well, I do. Donna was thrilled with her good luck and wanted to good work.

by Anonymousreply 25September 5, 2023 11:57 PM

You know, R20, Donna pinged to me, too, when she was on Angie.

by Anonymousreply 26September 6, 2023 12:19 AM

I'd Robert Hays' ass, because God knows Angie wouldn't.

by Anonymousreply 27September 6, 2023 12:56 AM

Robert Hays was very hot for a few years there.

Kathleen Noone has reported that Peter White died.
