by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 3, 2023 12:33 PM |
She was out of breath in the beginning and was out of tune on a couple of occasions (that glissando in head voice at 00:53 was awful), but she did recover her composure and the belted melismas were very well executed. I personally dislike about 80% of her dismally bad repertoire, but it is undeniable that she is a good singer and her technique is great - she's certainly the best of her generation, but that is only because most singers who emerged in the late 90s/early 00s, have disastrous technique and in most cases, no talent whatsoever.
If Beyoncé had had to compete with the likes of Aretha, Patti, Donna Summer, Linda Ronstadt, Mina, Natalie Cole, cunty Miss Ross, Barbra, Whitney, Mariah and even Toni Braxton, she'd be considered merely passable.

Beyonce has been incredibly successful at selling her brand. Her voice is good, not great. At this point, her body is fine when compared to the monstrosities of Cardi and the like. Her team controls all access to her, so no damage is done to her image by exposing how vapid she is. When younger, she could dance and put on a good show. Now she needs a lot of pageantry around her, costume changes, and a few dance moves. I mean she is over 40.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 3, 2023 1:59 PM |
Beyoncé’s voice is more than just good and always has been. I have friends who worked as sound engineers on her projects. She often dumbs down her voice in the studio for the masses. Thats why she sounds so phenomenal and even better live.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 3, 2023 2:04 PM |
Who are these dumb queens starting Beyonce threads just to diss her?! The ones who are too broke to see the Renaissance Tour?
She is 42 years old and has bore three children. She looks fucking incredible. Her voice is in great condition. Her show is spectacular -- visually stunning, 150 minutes and she nails every note, vocal run and step. She looks flawless and she has at least 12 wardrobe changes. It is the spectacle to end all spectacles. Madonna is shook. I have yet to hear one review that was less than rapturous.
Don't let being a poor make you bitter and stop you from getting your life from Beyonce. Pick up a few extra overnight shifts driving Uber and get a nosebleed seat, you will not be disappointed.

I thought she sounded fine. Flawed because it’s live and she’s moving and dancing through the whole show. I hate to do it, but I have to: Madonna could never sing that well live. She’d have to sing in a much lower register than normal that sounded awful and she always struggled to stay on key. If she sounded good, chances are it was lip synced. Both women put on a good show and own the stage but Beyoncé has the vocals.

Completely agree. I know how it read but I was not bashing Madonna or her brilliance. Madonna was my teenage obsession and I was firmly enthralled for well over a decade, through "Bedtime Stories." She is a visionary and a powerful, positive cultural force. She was the most prominent open ally, advocate of gays and lesbians during perilous times for us. Beyonce pays lavish tribute to Madonna during the Renaissance show.
Madonna is only shook because she is watching a woman 23 years younger stun audiences with a show much bigger and more expensive than anything she's done -- and clearly inspired by her. Beyonce's show moves quickly and is executed with an otherworldly precision. I don't know how Madonna, at 65, can watch it and be like 'ok, now it's time for me to tour.' Truly no shade but if I were in Madonna's shoes I'd announce my retirement today. She's earned it.

I’ll just say this. Adele who I like and has a fairly decent voice being sounded winded and her ass is just sitting at a piano the entire show. I have seen Mary J. blige live and she runs out of breath near the end of the show. I have never been to any of the Queen’s tours I’ll admit; I saw her live once at Good Morning America. The only female artist that I have seen live to match Beyoncé’s live vocals is Chrisette Michelle. Chrisette Michelle might actually be a better vocalist than the Queen but she has a fucked up body. And I’m not even talking about fatness because she wasn’t fat for black America but it’s like the front of her body should be the back and vice versa. She also arrived 2 hrs late. But boy did she deliver. She was like them old jazz singers Ella Fitzgerald singing modern music.

???? You are speaking from a different universe and/or out of your ass. She has not profited off or exploited BLM. Black expression of cultural pride through music preceded BLM by over half a century. No one can fill the void left by Whitney. If anything, Beyonce is an amalgam of many great entertainers that preceded her, certainly not just one.

[quote] Queen Bey is appropriating black and LGBT culture now. Fo realz? I’m done here. You old timers are irrelevant.
No! She is not appropriating, she is celebrating. I am "old timer" enough to recognize and appreciate the difference. Look at her audience. Young queers of color in all their flamboyant finery, same-sex couples holding hands and openly displaying affection. There is no precedent for this among mainstream Black artists. Beyonce is referred to as "Muva" -- the Ballroom variant of 'mother' -- that is very significant because it indicates affection and the esteem in which she is held in this particular community. She is affirming the most marginalized of the LGBTQ community, not the heteronormative Log Cabinettes. It was one of my favorite things about the show, seeing all those young people (my old @ss was invisible to them) coming together in community for the biggest Black star in the universe who was telling them -- unequivocally and loudly and in front of everyone -- that she loves and adores them in all their queer glory. Something that had never before happened in my lifetime.
If we can move past "Don't Say Gay" and LGBTQ history and culture is ever a serious topic of study, Renaissance-era Beyonce will be the most significant pop cultural figure for Black and Brown queers of this time period.

Agree r56....She IS technically able to hit the notes effortlessly, but her tone is often so shrill, especially now that she is older. She also has very little natural soul. Beyonce needed the harmonies to soften everything, the work with Destiny's Child and the first couple of albums was genius because they new exactly what worked.
I also *hate* when people compare Beyonce to fucking Gladys Knight, Aretha, singers who are/were old enough to be her grandma or auntie. Beyonce is a Y2K era artist and her amazing showmanship allowed her to stay relevant for much longer.

I see you, gurl. The ticket prices ARE a disgrace. I don't know if she could have done things differently. I wish she could have made it more accessible. The show is quite extravagant and obviously expensive. Ultimately, it is an occasion that you do INSTEAD of taking that cruise to Mexico. Her fans knew last year when she released the CD that she would be touring. I know many people had been saving since then. I paid $25 for my first Madonna concert in 1985 and $18 for my first Whitney Houston concert in 1986, and I had GREAT seats for both.
For what it's worth, Beyonce is not f*cking with your money. If such a thing as a $1,500 concert exists, she is giving it to you.

Once again, the Beyhive has infiltrated the website. Anyone who criticizes their queen gets attacked. I’m sure some posters here do have a racist element in their opinion of her. That is fucked up. But a lot of us don’t like her because she’s overrated as a performer. I hate her stans because they are bullies and more than a little psycho. She’s not a good role model for black girls and women in general. Everything you see is created by her team. She seldom gives interviews, giving the impression that she is mysterious and diva like and won’t lower herself to speak to the media. The reality? She’s stupid af. She practices to death, which pays off to some extent I guess. And she and Jay-Z both have pulled shady shit behind the scenes, ripping off their acts and cockblocking their careers so they don’t overshadow Beyoncé. And don’t get me started on how they snatch songwriting credits by changing a line or word in a lyric. They are awful people. Every few months this comes up. I have no problem repeating myself when it comes to expressing my disdain towards her, her team and most importantly her stans.

R106 Beyhive are hanging on to the last thread. This is Beyoncé’s peak tour, it’s all downhill from here. Her music career peaked long ago. She might have a few hits along the way but she’ll never replicate Crazy in Love or earlier successes, she’s too old now and her time has passed.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | September 3, 2023 7:29 PM |

R108. The Queen got you cunts lying. Lemonade is biggest selling album of 2016. Her most critically acclaimed, influential albums are her last 3. She is the Glenn Close of music, only gets better with age.

[quote] The industry wanted a new black vocalist to fill the void of Whitney.
I'd say she's more Janet Jackson than Whitney. Beyonce's solo albums never moved the amount of units like Whitney's did during her prime. Like Janet, Beyonce's music leans heavily into R&B/Dance with some Pop; also, she makes concept albums and uses samples across various genres like Janet. Interestingly, Beyonce's prominence as a solo artist came around the same time as Nipplegate.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | September 3, 2023 8:49 PM |
Vocally she’s not worthy to use Whitney’s old maxipads…
by Anonymous | reply 114 | September 3, 2023 8:54 PM |
R90 you aren’t wrong about that. For the first half of her career her biggest haters were other women black women. But as many of them aged and realize how fucked up this country is while recognizing this woman has maintained supreme success while also being drug free they had no choice but to respect her.

With her blond, Rapunzel-like hair. Talk about appropriation and message she’s sending.
by Anonymous | reply 116 | September 3, 2023 9:09 PM |
R113 Beyoncé’s first album was more contemporary r&b with splash of neo soul in the vein of Alicia Keys and Ashanti. The only dance r&b were the singles. It sold 6 million albums in the states alone. But you are correct she never really moved units like Whitney but also the mid aughts is when digital downloads and pirating really begin impacting artists. Not to mention the music buying public became more focused on singles rather than albums. B’day is much better than her trite first album. Though hearing the lighter tone she employed on Dangerously in Love is refreshing now 20 yrs later.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | September 3, 2023 9:10 PM |
R113 Beyoncé sang the national anthem at the Nipplegate Super Bowl. I know she had to be pissed the next day that Ms all people talked about when she delivered this.
by Anonymous | reply 118 | September 3, 2023 9:14 PM |
R115, everyone has a choice. This is the issue that I have with some of her fans. “You WILL LIKE HER BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO!”. Whatever reasons she got converts are their reasons. Black women were well aware of how fucked up this country is. Beyoncé hasn’t opened anyone’s eyes.
by Anonymous | reply 119 | September 3, 2023 9:15 PM |
I sorta think she's adorable. I always have. Comes across as dumb as a box of rocks in interviews, but she's got charisma and enthusiasm and curves and a sparkly smile. She's like the head cheerleader at high school that you want to hate, but then she's really nice to you and she's funny and you're like "Damn it, okay, I like her."
And Beyonce can really sing. She can sing R & B. The good stuff.
I have nothing against this woman.
by Anonymous | reply 120 | September 3, 2023 9:15 PM |
She's like this muscle of a human that's trained to do one thing. Her work ethic is just nuts. I do think age and children are catching up with her. It will be interesting to see how graceful she is about it.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | September 3, 2023 9:36 PM |
R118, I had totally forgotten that she sang the National Anthem at the Nipplegate Superbowl! She did a great job singing it too. No, it wasn't Whitney (then again, no one will ever sing it as great as Whitney, so unfair comparison), but it was tastefully executed.
She's a technically skilled vocalist, no question about it. I just never cared for her tone, IMO. But one can't deny that she can sing. I just think her voice is one that was trained. It's not a gift that she already had but cultivated.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | September 3, 2023 9:45 PM |
R122 Touché to each it’s own. It’s a running theme so I guess many find Bey’s tone off putting. With that being said her vocals were live; Whitney’s impeccable version was pre-recorded.

How old are you, R125?
I'm 50 and I'm white. I don't own a single Beyonce or Destiny's Child album. But, if I weren't so hunkered down with work, I'd have considered going. Just for the spectacle and joie de vivire of it all. It's a big ole party.
It helps that I have the capacity to dance and have fun. I'm sorry you were born without that capacity.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | September 3, 2023 10:19 PM |
Obligatory not r125.
I can see going to a Beyonce concert just for the pure spectacle of it all. I wouldn't pay the several hundred dollars for a ticket, but I definitely would go if it were cheaper and convenient.
There is something to be said for attending stuff like that and experiencing it live and in person.
by Anonymous | reply 127 | September 3, 2023 10:30 PM |
That's true, R127. The insanely exorbitant cost of paying scalper prices for all tickets now because of the bots, keeps people away from experiencing a more broad spectrum of live entertainment these days. It's a shame.

Beyoncé is mad self analytical like most virgos. She developed a complex because when she was with Destiny’s child the black community formulated this reputation that she was a big bitch. She just was particular. So she stop talking so much and chooses her words wisely. And the more famous she got the more self conscious she became.

She follows instructions VERY WELL. If Stepford made hip wiggling hoochies, she’d be first off the line. I mean, I’m perplexed 🤔 by the fact that people can’t see this…we are living in a culture of cult worship and cult mentality. So sad. It’s funny sometimes but it’s mostly just sad 😞.

She sounded amazing for the show I was really impressed, great show. And I’m not rly big into her, I got tickets very last minute on a whim.

Hey, fuckfacecake, I've been capable of pulling hot guys older and younger than me, but ten years age difference in a long-term rship when one partner is 21 or younger is not appropriate or healthy. There's a power imbalance. That kind of age difference or more is fine once the younger partner reaches 25, but not at 21 or 19 FFS, and it doesn't surprise me you can't appreciate that given you're clearly off your meds again and arguing with everyone.
Oh, and you're blocked, cunt.

R241 is right.
The cunt mentioned is a serial poster using multiple accounts and is spewing threads like a sick dog spreading wormy turds.
It stays within a fictive range of responses in all its fake personas, and tries to do a passive-aggressive game in its responses.
We know what it deserves.

R243, right back at you. Yes, I've seen the grand total of two threads you started.
Your handle = just another sock puppet account of the easily triggered pederast.

She brings her shit show to Dallas tonight and the place is going berserk -- people spending absurd amounts of money they don't have to fanny around the concert in silver clothing, per Her Majesty Thunderthighs Stanky Hootch's mandate. What a load of CRAP.

Destiry's Child is trending...speculation of a reunion at the Houston show. It would only make sense

I enjoy the video of her falling down onstage.

She’s looked better. And I hate the outfit.

R247 Oh well bitch. Own you misery. She is a phenomenal talent bridging the gap between the Harlem Renaissance artistry and today’s pop esthetics all while deeply infusing black LGBT culture. It’s not our fault that you don’t get. It not even wrong that you don’t get it. It is wrong for you to bash others and a movement represent freedom, liberation, equality, and fun. Go away you sour puss.
