Gay man here, not sporty at all, and I've always thought Martina was one of our community's greatest representatives — straight talker, good thinker, with a sense of humor. This well-written essay will outrage the usual suspects, but OH WELL.

We have to, at least, be able to discuss trans women with regard to SPORTS. Women's sports. Sounds like Martina did take a few years to study the issue. Trans women competing in women's sports and then completely DOMINATING always had the feel of shooting fish in a barrel, IMO. It's simply not fair to women athletes who have trained for years to compete, only to get their asses kicked by a trans woman, especially one who has undergone zero hormone treatment.

A well-crafted, cogent argument. Martina is right, of course. That nonsense with Lia Thomas’s “wins” was ridiculous. A mediocre swimmer as a male, all of a sudden Lia starts winning titles as a female, taking those opportunities from women who were born as women and did not share the advantages that male puberty brings to athletic prowess.

R14, it's not even necessarily "prowess," it's a pure, brute strength advantage.

What they're doing to women's sports is insane. A guy decides he's a woman, can knock other women off the podium while still competing with his dick.

It's just very unfair, especially to women. If women to men transitioners were knocking men off the podium and being number one that would be more equal, but has that ever happened in men's sports? Doesn't seem like it. Usually it's women.

Martina is correct, of course. Our side is wrong when it comes to trans women athletes. It's so obvious it's frustrating it's even up for debate.
