Honey, she is serving us hot, Ballroom vogue cunt.

by Anonymousreply 1August 20, 2023 11:13 PM

She’s making them all sound sarcastic. Is she having a bad week?

by Anonymousreply 2August 20, 2023 11:15 PM

that was HILARIOUS. she's probably the funniest friend in anyone's friend group.

by Anonymousreply 3August 20, 2023 11:18 PM

It makes sense for an ASL interpreter in Los Angeles to be a good actress.

by Anonymousreply 4August 20, 2023 11:22 PM

Love her! She's all like "y'all muthafuckas believe the shit these bitches be sayin' up in hurrr?"

by Anonymousreply 5August 20, 2023 11:31 PM

Rofl... I didn't know that ASL could be done in Ebonics!

by Anonymousreply 6August 20, 2023 11:49 PM

Bitch is being very EXTRA!

by Anonymousreply 7August 20, 2023 11:50 PM

Her signing reminds me a lot of the Marlo and Sheree fight on RHOA.

Hahahaha.

Love the way she just moved over and didn't miss a beat, just kept on doing her exaggerated facial expressions in time to the signing. There should be an awards show for this. I guarantee this would be much more entertaining than any other awards show.

by Anonymousreply 9August 20, 2023 11:54 PM

My favorite part is midway, when she glides over to the other speaker, like she’s on a hoverboard.

by Anonymousreply 10August 20, 2023 11:59 PM

She's right up there with the one Gretchen Whitmer uses.

Gretchen Whitmer's SL interpreter is doing some ACTING, honey!

by Anonymousreply 12August 21, 2023 12:02 AM

The exaggerated facial expressions are typical and are a big part of the communication, though it looks odd to us. I guess it is similar to our vocal sound expression, pace, etc all that add meaning to the words.

by Anonymousreply 13August 21, 2023 12:10 AM

They embrace the DRAMA!

by Anonymousreply 14August 21, 2023 12:15 AM

Why do we need sign language interpreters when there is closed or open captioning available? Are there that many deaf people who are either blind or can't read?

by Anonymousreply 15August 21, 2023 12:32 AM

Her name is Rorri Burton. Angelenos got to know her during all the COVID-briefings. R15, that's explained in the segment below.

They used to not make all the dramatic facial expressions, but they found that deaf people understand tone better when facial expressions convey it.

by Anonymousreply 17August 21, 2023 12:51 AM

They ARE stars for the work that they do.

by Anonymousreply 18August 21, 2023 1:19 AM

I would love to see a film about the ultra-competitive, cutthroat world of sign language interpreting — or even a reality show.

I know I’ve said stuff this stupid, but I don’t think I’ve ever taken the time to type something out and not realized it.

by Anonymousreply 20August 21, 2023 1:42 AM

Going off on a tangent here...

She's flawless.

by Anonymousreply 22August 21, 2023 2:05 AM

This was actually a little scary that it even happened.

It looks like she’s re-enacting a bunch of Prince memes.

I think you just wrote the treatment for Christopher Guest's next mockumentary, R19

by Anonymousreply 25August 21, 2023 3:21 AM

It’s like sign language with a blaccent. Incredible!

by Anonymousreply 26August 21, 2023 3:25 AM

Lawd! You know black people always got to put a little extra uumphh into it 😂 I love her. I just hope she is really speaking American Sign Language or some official one. I know y’all memba Mandela’s funeral.

That would be pretty fun. It's probably hard to get the high-profile gigs working for government agencies at a big conference or corporate type events.

by Anonymousreply 28September 4, 2023 9:56 PM

So, she's really signing and not just making crap up?

by Anonymousreply 29September 4, 2023 10:36 PM

They communicate through facial expressions. When you can't hear, that's how you communicate. Hands and emotional exaggerated facial gestures.

Sorry OP I'd fire her for being disrespectful on the job & for being too distracting.

by Anonymousreply 33September 4, 2023 11:01 PM

Do her signals come out as Ebonics?

by Anonymousreply 34September 4, 2023 11:05 PM

R34 Already covered at R6

Bethany James is the interpreter who interprets a lot of Gretchen Whitmer's press conferences and she also interprets for Jocelyn Benson and Dana Nessel. Years back, there was a trial in Michigan in which one of the jurors was deaf and Bethany was one of the interpreters who interpreted for the juror in court.
