I'm terrified of getting the Shingrix vaccine

Word has it that the side effects are much worse than the Covid shots. I'll be laid up for days.

by Anonymousreply 69January 11, 2025 11:16 PM

I got it. Nothing happened.

by Anonymousreply 1August 14, 2023 9:11 PM

I've had the first one. I had a sore shoulder and that was it. I'm getting the second at the end of the month.

by Anonymousreply 2August 14, 2023 9:12 PM

Same here. And I’d had a colleague who told me she was on bed all weekend with flu like symptoms after her first dose.

You gotta get it. You seriously don’t want shingles.

by Anonymousreply 3August 14, 2023 9:13 PM

Got it - Covid first two shots were much worse for side effects.

Get the vaccine - shingles is awful and can last 6-9 months AFTER the very painful rashes clear. The nerve pain is excruciating.

by Anonymousreply 4August 14, 2023 9:14 PM

Look at it this way. You could spend a day or two out of commission recovering from the Shingrix shot.

Or you could spend two or three months out of commission while you have Shingles.

by Anonymousreply 5August 14, 2023 9:14 PM

Trust me, you want to get the vaccine. Shingles is miserable. I was on Vicodin for 2 weeks with it, and it didn’t help very much.

by Anonymousreply 6August 14, 2023 9:15 PM

Nada. Nothing, other than a slightly sore shoulder where I was jabbed. And I have an autoimmune disease that often kicks off after a shot.

Go get the vaccine. Don't mess around. Even flu-like system are better - way way better - than getting shingles.

by Anonymousreply 7August 14, 2023 9:16 PM

MARY!

by Anonymousreply 8August 14, 2023 9:16 PM

^^^ Symptoms NOT system. Damn.

by Anonymousreply 9August 14, 2023 9:17 PM

Shingrix vaccine was no problem, except maybe a little soreness where the needle went in.

Shingles, on the other hand, was a great big pain-in-the-ass.

Having had shingles, if I chose not to get the vaccine, I'd hope someone would have had me declared mentally incompetent,

by Anonymousreply 10August 14, 2023 9:19 PM

I had flu like symptoms after both shots, but for less than 24 hours each. So worth it compared to getting shingles.

by Anonymousreply 11August 14, 2023 9:22 PM

I had a sore arm. Nothing to it.

by Anonymousreply 12August 14, 2023 9:22 PM

I had a sore shoulder for one day after the first vax; no soreness after the second.

When I had my second, I also had the flu shot and the COVID booster. So I had 3 jabs in a matter of 5 minutes and I was fine the next day.

I had the single dose Shingles vaccine a decade or so ago, and had a sore injection site for several days. The 2-dose Shingrix had a much easier reaction with me.

by Anonymousreply 13August 14, 2023 9:23 PM

I had a little soreness in my arm after the first shot. Nothing out of the ordinary, just typical soreness. But after the second one, I felt a little run down. I ended up taking a long nap that afternoon and went to bed early that night. By the next day I felt fine.

by Anonymousreply 14August 14, 2023 9:25 PM

Guillain-Barré syndrome has been reported.

by Anonymousreply 15August 14, 2023 9:27 PM

Then don't.

by Anonymousreply 16August 14, 2023 9:29 PM

I had both doses years ago and only had a sore arm for a day. Stop listening to everyone else and just get the vaccine. Also tell yourself you will be fine with it because everyone else has been. Stop making self fulfilling prophecies. Getting shingles would be far worse.

by Anonymousreply 17August 14, 2023 9:30 PM

You think an injection is painful? Wait until you get shingles.

by Anonymousreply 18August 14, 2023 9:32 PM

My partner had a terrible case of shingles 20 years ago and still has post-herpetic neuralgia with intense pain. It affected his quality of life and still pops up with the same intensity.

He had one shot of the Shingrix and his reaction was so unpleasant he told the doctor he'd skip the second, and that he'd rather risk another round of shingles and possible sequelae than go through the side effects of the shot again.

by Anonymousreply 19August 14, 2023 9:33 PM

r19 I am going to guess that he had that reaction because he still has shingles residual. How many people get side effects?

by Anonymousreply 20August 14, 2023 9:36 PM

I had progressively worse reactions with every COVID shot and booster. With Shingrix, I had a slightly sore arm and that was it.

by Anonymousreply 21August 14, 2023 9:55 PM

I had a very slight reaction. I’d go through it again to avoid getting shingles. Believe me anticipating the reaction is worse than 90 some percent of the actual reactions. I hope you get vaccinated OP.

by Anonymousreply 22August 14, 2023 9:59 PM

OP I got both Shingrix shots and I am in terrible health (stage 4 chronic kidney disease). Just about everything fucks me up and makes me sick, but the Shingrix vaccine did not. Nothing happened. And listen to all the people telling you that you do not want shingles. Everyone I know who'd had it was sick for a long time. Be brave -- I'm rooting for you.

by Anonymousreply 23August 14, 2023 10:05 PM

It's nothing really. The next day I had that feeling that I was coming down with something and the day after that I felt fine. Just plan to rest the next day if you feel shitty.

by Anonymousreply 24August 14, 2023 10:06 PM

I had a sore arm and a small lump at the injection site for both injections. Other than that no real symptoms.

by Anonymousreply 25August 14, 2023 10:07 PM

OP, man up. It's nothing. It's a shot. You'll be fine. Besides, you must get it!

by Anonymousreply 26August 14, 2023 10:08 PM

My mother had shingles over a quadrant of her face and head, and they covered up one eye. She had residual pain as a result for many years after that outbreak.

During the height of the pandemic, I was more afraid of coming down with a case of shingles due to stress than catching COVID.

Get vaccinated OP.

by Anonymousreply 27August 14, 2023 10:10 PM

I’m getting my second shot Friday. The first one wiped me out for about 2 days or so, but I just kept telling myself that it’s better than getting Shingles. I’ve had a couple of friends who were sick for like a week, but the majority of those I know were just fine, no side effects.

by Anonymousreply 28August 14, 2023 10:14 PM

I was a bit nervous, too, but I was fine. No side effects at all.

by Anonymousreply 29August 14, 2023 10:20 PM

Is the side effect of Shingrix vaccine as bad as covid vaccine? I don't wanna repeat the bad memory of taking covid vaccine.

by Anonymousreply 30August 14, 2023 10:30 PM

You do not want to get shingles. I had it a few years ago. I was never so miserable in my entire life, and that's saying a lot. I still have faint scars at the base of my neck, left side.

by Anonymousreply 31August 14, 2023 10:32 PM

OP, I've got both my shots & had little reaction to them.

by Anonymousreply 32August 14, 2023 10:34 PM

Surely the pinheads who distrust the COVID vaccines also don't want the Shingrex vaccine. Right?

by Anonymousreply 33August 14, 2023 10:37 PM

OP you are in idiot. There is nothing to be afraid of. You have more of a chance of choking to death at home alone and your cat gnawing on the soft flesh of your cheeks for nutrients.

by Anonymousreply 34August 14, 2023 10:41 PM

Educate yourself dunce!

by Anonymousreply 35August 14, 2023 10:46 PM

Big baby.

by Anonymousreply 36August 14, 2023 10:53 PM

You bitches just scared me into scheduling my shingles vaccine for tomorrow. Thanks! :-*

by Anonymousreply 37August 14, 2023 11:44 PM

Is the Shingrix vaccine free?

by Anonymousreply 38August 14, 2023 11:48 PM

It is if you tell 'em you know me.

by Anonymousreply 39August 14, 2023 11:54 PM

DL doesn't care.

by Anonymousreply 40August 15, 2023 12:03 AM

I spent about six hours curled up in a ball feeling like I had flu after the first vaccine. The second was fine.

Never had shingles, but I've heard nothing but horror stories. It was well worth it.

Good luck, OP! Report back.

by Anonymousreply 41August 15, 2023 12:06 AM

[QUOTE] Is the Shingrix vaccine free?

It's about $300 at Walgreens.

by Anonymousreply 42August 15, 2023 12:27 AM

I pay anything for my shots.

by Anonymousreply 43August 15, 2023 1:19 AM

[QUOTE] I pay anything for my shots.

Wow. So you'd pay 10 grand for it?

by Anonymousreply 44August 15, 2023 1:20 AM

In NYS there is no fee for the vaccine. Quick story - my mom had shingles and it was bad. My dad called me beside himself in tears convinced that she couldn't bear the pain any longer. It's the only time I heard my dad cry, including when HE was dying. OP, I know this is getting redundant but please get the vaccination. if you don't and you get shingles you'll be so mad at yourself.

by Anonymousreply 45August 15, 2023 2:17 AM

I got the first one and my arm was really sore, which usually doesn’t happen to me with vaccines. Nothing else tho.

Awaiting my second one.

by Anonymousreply 46August 15, 2023 2:27 AM

No reaction other than a sore upper arm for a few days. People who have had shingles say it is awful and lasts a long time. Get the shot.

by Anonymousreply 47August 15, 2023 2:35 AM

First shot left my arm sore for a week. Second shot wasn't so bad. Nothing that made me miss work. Listen to what people are telling you. I've had shingles and it is extraordinarily painful. Compared to it, the shots are nothing.

by Anonymousreply 48August 15, 2023 2:42 AM

After all the deaths caused by the Covid shots, I'm wary of any vaccine.

by Anonymousreply 49August 15, 2023 3:23 AM

r49/OP, you'll be fine without one. I'm sure you won't get shingles...

by Anonymousreply 50August 15, 2023 3:26 AM

[quote]After all the deaths caused by the Covid shots, I'm wary of any vaccine

Seems like you need to be more worried about all the deaths caused by stupidity.

by Anonymousreply 51August 15, 2023 3:29 AM

R49 is a fucking idiot.

And I mean that in the nicest way!

by Anonymousreply 52August 15, 2023 3:57 AM

I've heard nothing but the most awful accounts from folks who've had shingles, including my business partner who had a terrible case of it last year. She's barely now approaching her mid 50s, and I was surprised at the time that she apparently didn't get vaccinated and came down with shingles just a few years after she turned 50. So, I got my first Shingrix dose on my actual 50th birthday late last year, the first day I was CDC-eligible to get it, and I went back three months later for the booster.

Get vaccinated, OP. You're terrified now, over vaccine side effects that you have a very low likelihood of encountering based on most other people's experiences? What should really terrify you is the prospect of getting an excruciatingly painful -- and completely preventable -- illness.

by Anonymousreply 53August 15, 2023 4:21 AM

OP is r49, r53. We don't want OP to get vaccinated.

by Anonymousreply 54August 15, 2023 4:24 AM

[quote]After all the deaths caused by the Covid shots, I'm wary of any vaccine.

Yes, that is definitely what you should focus on. Absolutely.

Very smart. Very rational.

by Anonymousreply 55August 15, 2023 4:26 AM

R54 Oh. Ohhhhh. Oh my.

by Anonymousreply 56August 15, 2023 4:27 AM

When I was in my early 20s, I had a shingles outbreak on my back near my shoulder. It was quarter-to-half-dollar sized and we caught it early enough to keep it from spreading. The doctor prescribed some medication (Valtrex I think, but I don't remember) and within a few weeks it had cleared up. But even now, some 30+ years later, when I'm stressed and/or extremely tired I get a sharp stabbing pain in that spot on my back. - I assume from nerve damaged caused by shingles. I can only imagine what the pain must be like for someone who has had an outbreak over a much larger area.

by Anonymousreply 57August 15, 2023 4:34 AM

Get the vaxx.

My roommate didn’t, & he’s suffering big time, as a result.

He’s had two strokes, a horrible, recent outbreak, & his life has been severely limited/impacted, as a result.

This is a guy who has been sober for many, many years, worked out daily, went deep sea fishing regularly, & was genuinely creative & cool AF.

It’s negatively & profoundly, affected EVERY SINGLE PART OF HIS LIFE.

Get the vaccine. For me, it was seamless and did not affect me in a negative manner at all, whatsoever. 2 shots. No downtime. Everything was fine.

Please be smart & get this vaccine.

Seriously.

by Anonymousreply 58August 15, 2023 4:39 AM

I have heard such horror stories about shingles that I was on my father to get vaccinated, which he didn't do until 70, but oh well.

He doesn't like doctors and doesn't hesitate to complain about anything, but he had no issues at all.

So much about our health is beyond our control—why not take advantage of medical advancements and prevent this completely preventable, disabling illness?

by Anonymousreply 59August 15, 2023 4:41 AM

Thanks everyone. This thread has convinced me finally to get the vaccine.

by Anonymousreply 60August 15, 2023 5:00 AM

OP, after my first Shingrix shot, my left arm rotted and fell off. And then a month later.they gave me the sexist shot in my right arm and then it rotted and fell off too! And now I have to type with my toes and that’s why all of my posts are filled with so many typos.

Kidding.

I got both and nothing happens either time. The only vaccines I dislike are tetanus which for some reason cause me to feel like my arms (which I still do have. Both of them) was punched repeatedly and hard for about a week. Thank god it’s only every ten years.

I’ve hurt my weenus more in my sleep than any vaccine side effect.

by Anonymousreply 61August 15, 2023 5:01 AM

I should add: my best friend from college had it administered two years ago and had a horrible debilitating illness for a week--the worst case scenario. But he told me he's STILL glad he had the vaccine.

by Anonymousreply 62August 15, 2023 5:03 AM

Oh lord. OP is pastaboi, author of such non-classics as “my doctor lambasted me for not getting a colonoscopy and I’m 62”, “I know what it feels like to be a woman now. A guy wouldn’t stop hitting on me at a bar”, “my new boyfriend is moving too fast and wants to have sex and I’m not ready”, and numerous racist threads about looting.

He claims to have me ignored but also responds to my posts and then says he’s using a computer and a phone at the same time (i.e. he essentially admitted he has multiple accounts).

Trolldar him if you don’t believe me. I got suspicious as soon as someone said he had also posted about “all the deaths from the COVID vax”.

Just nuke this thread. Nuke OP with FFs til it dies of radiation poisoning.

At least that will spare him from shingles and possibly colon cancer if he won’t get a colonoscopy. 🙄

by Anonymousreply 63August 15, 2023 5:58 AM

I hope this doesn't scare anyone contemplating getting the Shingles vaccine. If anything it probably should make them feel better about it.

I had my 2 vaccinations (Feb & April). I'm 70 years old and had shingles 57 years ago. It was on my right side. Back in those days treatment required a visit to the doctor every day for a week to get a shot.

Now here's the kicker. Last Wednesday I woke up during the night feeling a slight burning on the outside of my right thigh. I reached down and felt around in the dark and felt an area that was sensitive to the touch. But I went on back to sleep. The next morning and checked my leg and low & behold I had a patch of Shingles on my leg. It's about 2.5" in circumference. I had experienced leg and hip pain since several days before the patch appeared, but I attributed it to arthritis. Now I believe it was from the Shingles outbreak. Now here's the good part. This bout of Shingles is nowhere near what I experienced 57 years ago. I put calamine lotion on the patch and by the next day it was completely dry and a little crusty, but no real pain. Just some slight burning. This morning I noticed the patch feels a little scabby, but there's no scab there, just the red patch.

So, I guess the Shingrix vaccine worked. At least it kept this outbreak from being anywhere close as bad as it was 57 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 64October 9, 2023 10:37 AM

I recommend reading up in what the disease does to you, and suddenly the vaccination will seem like a walk in the park.

by Anonymousreply 65October 9, 2023 12:01 PM

R58 Some of you people are very nice. Makes me realize what a cunt I am.

by Anonymousreply 66October 12, 2023 2:31 AM

I got the second shot yesterday and I've had no side effects! I have been pleasantly surprised.

by Anonymousreply 67January 11, 2025 10:47 PM

I’m not surprised since you’re a big pussy

by Anonymousreply 68January 11, 2025 10:56 PM

A friend who is Indian-American got it in India and flew home to RI to be treated there rather than a hospital in Mumbai. He described flying back as like 24 hours in hell. He is now an evangelist to everyone to get the shingles shots. He’s living proof the disease is way, way worse than the cure.
