Yes. I'm a baseball fan and I'll watch how certain guys talk about and look at the players (or even how a few of the players act around each other). A LOT of downlow cases in sports and sports fandom.

Nope

I'm great at "spotting other gays in non-gay settings." But for years, I was reluctant to share my suspicions for fear that I was wrong. Then my mother (of all people) gave me some good advice. She said "Son, you are the most naive and innocent person I know. If you 'suspect' something about someone else - like he's a fraud, she's gay, he's had work done, she's no virgin, etc. - treat it as fact. 'Cause everybody else already knows what you're supposin' ."
That advice has done me well over the years.

Whenever I see some guy flouncing down the street, in my mind I hear Margaret Cho say, "oh guuuuurl" like she did in her stand-up specials.

Yes -- except for the "high femme" lesbians. Them, not so much.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 11, 2023 9:13 PM |
No, I’m terrible at it.

I suspected Wayne Brady from his Whose Line days. He was good at playing female improv characters and the other guys would just do a silly high voice for a woman. Thought he might be a bit fluid being that in touch with his feminine side.

I'm okay but I know a guy (a gay guy) who has no gaydar at all. He used to insist that the rumors about Ricky Martin and Kevin Spacey were "just wishful thinking"

I'm good at spotting them, asking them out, and then them telling me something dumb like, "I like tits and vagina dude bro "

As soon as they go on about how religious they are and how gays are intrinsic evils, then I know they’re gay gay gay.

R11, that's a lie!
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 11, 2023 10:44 PM |
I can usually tell based on how they dress.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 11, 2023 10:48 PM |
Another telling sign I think is if they’re gym obsessed and buy 50 different products for skincare.

Yes, it’s a hobby of mine.
Eye contact is a big tip-off.

Look for the one with an Asian wife

I'm good at spotting gays on the internet and in the street and other non gay settings.
But that does not mean that I can ALWAYS tell that someone is gay. Any queen who says they can always tell is
FULL OF SHIT

You'll see his eyes suddenly light up in the presence of an attractive man
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 11, 2023 11:22 PM |
Maybe not always r17, but very often I can tell. Like r15 said, eye contact is a big tell; even guys I know would never be interested in me still give me a quick look to confirm.
I think I'm also good at figuring out which guys are straight despite having feminine sounding voices. When I watched the Netflix doc Making A Murderer and heard the prosecutor Ken Kratz's delicate high-pitched voice, I listened to him over a few episodes and concluded - yep, he's straight. Sure enough, it came out soon after that he had sexually harassed multiple women.

^ A lot of people here think DeSantis is gay because he has a high voice but he doesn't ping for me at all
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 11, 2023 11:56 PM |
Expressive eyes usually is a giveaway to me.

Agree with R21
When not posturing in order to appear masc, many gay men have a certain softness to their gaze. Not as overtly intense as straights. Lesbians have a more direct gaze than many straight women. not true in every case, but a tell.

Bump

I'm generally pretty good, but the lines have blurred. Straights are confusing.
