Ratatouille (2007)
I just watched Pixar's Ratatouille. What a fun and elegant film. The story follows a rat, Remy, as he mentors an aspiring chef in one of Paris' most well-known restaurant.
Written and directed by Brad Bird
Music by Michael Giacchino
Starring the voices of Patton Oswald, Lou Romano, Ian Holm, Jeanne Garofalo, Brian Dennehy, Brad Garrett, Peter Sohn, Will Arnett, James Remar, John Ratzenberger, Brad Bird, and PETER O'TOOLE.

The emotional payoff with the ratatouille memory at the end makes the whole film worth it.

I agree! Peter O'Toole came out of retirement for his little voice over role.

Cute movie... I remember my nephew being really into it when it came out.

I do like this movie, it's fluff and fluff that could have used more laughs, but I empathize so much with the characters!
And I'm still pissed it lost out on a "Best Original Song" Oscar, but I guess the AMPAS isn't giving no award to no French-language song.

I thought the movie was stupid. The lead human character was a terrible person. The vermin were nice.

I hated it too, R6. It was great to look at but it all felt 'off', somehow.
Coincidentally, I'm making (crock pot) ratatouille for dinner for the neighbors and me.

The lead human is supposed to be awkward and lanky, which he was.
The chef was a pompous ass.

The lead human wasn't an awful person, R6, he was just a dork. An unformed kid who let the winds of fate blow him around, and other persons push him around, because he didn't know who he was or what he wanted. Which isn't admirable, but it is totally normal in young adults, and if he was an aimless dork then he was a nice aimless dork who would rescue and feed helpless animals.
Now the movie isn't without its flaws, I said above that it needed more laughs, and another flaw is that Alfredo isn't given a good character arc. By the end of the movie he's got a girlfriend and steady job which he seems to enjoy, but we don't get any real sense that he's grown up or found himself.

The ride at Epcot is also charming.

Patton Oswalt was perfect for the voice of the main character.

I really didn't like the plot device that had the rat controlling the guy's movements by pulling his hair. Even though the movie wasn't bad, I found that hard to get past, for some reason. I know they had to figure out some way to give the rat physical control over the human, and I guess this was the best thing they could come up with. To be fair, I can't think of anything better myself, but still, it just bothered the hell out of me.
