What is your white-noise TV show?

I flip between CNN and the Game Show Network.

by Anonymousreply 71September 29, 2023 1:30 AM

The many hours of the Today show

by Anonymousreply 1August 6, 2023 2:00 AM

I just pick something on tubi and let it auto-select whatever it wants after the first movie is done.

by Anonymousreply 2August 6, 2023 2:02 AM

TCM but I admit to falling into many of the movies and interstitials.

by Anonymousreply 3August 6, 2023 2:07 AM

"Unsolved Mysteries", with Robert Stack

CSPAN

by Anonymousreply 5August 6, 2023 2:14 AM

I usually put on The Perry Mason channel on Pluto when I go to bed.

by Anonymousreply 6August 6, 2023 2:18 AM

Any of those ‘secrets of the Bermuda triangle’ or ‘Nazi super weapons’ or ‘ancient aliens’. Etc. all goofy shows.

by Anonymousreply 7August 6, 2023 2:26 AM

Movie serials from the 40s on YouTube.

by Anonymousreply 8August 6, 2023 2:29 AM

Superman and the Mole Men

by Anonymousreply 9August 6, 2023 3:11 AM

For years it was CNN, but since they can’t break up with Trump, I’ve been turning to game shows.

by Anonymousreply 10August 6, 2023 3:16 AM

TCM unless I'm reading because, even if it's just on as background noise, I often find myself watching bits and pieces. So if reading or resting my eyes, I'll turn on the Light Classical channel on the Music Choice channels.

by Anonymousreply 11August 6, 2023 3:28 AM

used to be Forensic Files. If i could find American Justice on repeat, I'd love that. Now it's usually Dateline.

by Anonymousreply 12August 6, 2023 3:33 AM

1010 WINS am - All news all the time.

by Anonymousreply 13August 6, 2023 3:37 AM

MeTV

by Anonymousreply 14August 6, 2023 3:40 AM

I’m with you r7. But I actually watch Hunting Hitler and The Curse of Oak Island.

by Anonymousreply 15August 6, 2023 3:44 AM

MSNBC

by Anonymousreply 16August 6, 2023 4:02 AM

I don't have one but DL is my white-noise website.

by Anonymousreply 17August 6, 2023 4:55 AM

Anything from the NHK English language offerings but particularly Begin Japanology with Peter Barakan.

by Anonymousreply 18August 6, 2023 5:34 AM

Another vote for MeTV.

by Anonymousreply 19August 6, 2023 6:15 AM

[quote] "Unsolved Mysteries", with Robert Stack

What about with Dennis Farina?

by Anonymousreply 20August 6, 2023 6:24 AM

MSNBC and multiple sports channels.

by Anonymousreply 21August 6, 2023 6:27 AM

At the same time, R21?

by Anonymousreply 22August 6, 2023 6:35 AM

Damages

It puts me right to sleep!

by Anonymousreply 23August 6, 2023 6:41 AM

France 24 in French (they also have an English version). Deutsche Welle 24 news in English. Sometimes DW in German. Ari Melber (but not his guest hosts), Pivot podcast. Every free months I refresh my podcast list because the hosts start to annoy me so no longer function as white noise.

by Anonymousreply 24August 6, 2023 7:07 AM

America's Test Kitchen on Freevee. It's not all complete noise - I do learn cooking tips, but there's something about watching people make food & genuinely enjoy it that's just sort of comforting & calming.

by Anonymousreply 25August 6, 2023 9:33 AM

My mind is operating at such levels that even my white noise is trilingual.

by Anonymousreply 26August 6, 2023 12:15 PM

My 600 lb life

by Anonymousreply 27August 6, 2023 1:03 PM

CNN or Bravo

by Anonymousreply 28August 6, 2023 2:28 PM

I have the MST3K channel running constantly while I do other things.

by Anonymousreply 29August 6, 2023 2:35 PM

House Hunters or any of the flipping house shows

by Anonymousreply 30August 6, 2023 2:47 PM

House Hunters International

by Anonymousreply 31August 6, 2023 2:54 PM

I don't turn the TV on unless I'm going to watch something specific. White noise-wise, I have my radio tuned to the local classical station at night. It helps me sleep. I turn it off when I wake up.

by Anonymousreply 32August 6, 2023 2:58 PM

Pluto Free Streaming TV seems to exist just to provide "white noise TV"!

When I want to relax, or have some background noise while I do something more interesting, I put on something like the BBC Food channel or "MST3K".

by Anonymousreply 33August 7, 2023 1:25 AM

I don't understand why several people are saying MST3K. You kind of have to be actively watching that to get the jokes.

by Anonymousreply 34August 7, 2023 1:30 AM

Lately, "Suits" starring Megan Markle.

by Anonymousreply 35August 7, 2023 1:34 AM

Heroes & Icons

by Anonymousreply 36August 7, 2023 1:46 AM

Golden Girls

by Anonymousreply 37August 7, 2023 1:49 AM

Air Disasters if I want to nap. The narrator's voice is sleep-inducing.

Catfish: the TV Show as well. They episodes are identically structured so they're easy to fall asleep to.

by Anonymousreply 38August 7, 2023 1:58 AM

r38, I had to go look up Air Disasters narrator's voice: Bill Ratner. He sounds somewhat reminiscent of Bill Curtis, who narrated American Justice.

I'm the weirdo that used to love going to sleep to Forensic Files and the dulcet tones and careful enunciation of the late, great Peter Thomas.

by Anonymousreply 39August 7, 2023 2:15 AM

The Office on Comedy Central. I've seen it so often it's just background noise now.

by Anonymousreply 40August 7, 2023 2:50 AM

R12 I agree. Forensic Files is so weirdly calming. Peter Thomas is one of the best narrators I've ever heard which is one reason I'm not a fan of FF2.

by Anonymousreply 41August 7, 2023 3:36 AM

The Office

by Anonymousreply 42August 7, 2023 4:28 AM

Looney Tunes

by Anonymousreply 43August 7, 2023 4:31 AM

The Nanny

by Anonymousreply 44August 7, 2023 4:46 PM

R44. How can you sleep with Fran’s voice?

by Anonymousreply 45August 7, 2023 5:01 PM

Everybody Loves Raymond

by Anonymousreply 46August 7, 2023 5:04 PM

Gilmore Girls

by Anonymousreply 47August 7, 2023 5:15 PM

R29

There’s an entire channel devoted to MST3K?!

*grabs remote*

by Anonymousreply 48August 7, 2023 5:27 PM

Midsomer Murders

by Anonymousreply 49August 7, 2023 5:47 PM

TCM as long as it’s a black and white. If not, Perry Mason or The Fugitive or an old movie on Pluto. Somehow, color doesn’t have the white noise effect b-and-w does—I’m sure there’s some neurophysiological explanation.

by Anonymousreply 50August 7, 2023 5:53 PM

Big Bang Theory

by Anonymousreply 51August 7, 2023 5:55 PM

"There’s an entire channel devoted to MST3K?!"

Yes, and another devoted to "Rifftrax", the spin-off show by the same crew.

And an entire channel devoted to Godzilla movies!

by Anonymousreply 52August 7, 2023 7:40 PM

Golden Girls on Hallmark Channel and CMT helps me drift off to sleep at night. I learned NOT to drift off to sleep with ID channel or Oxygen Channel unless I want to have nightmares.

by Anonymousreply 53August 7, 2023 7:46 PM

CNN. They just repeat the same stories over and over. It's almost hypnotic. And when I wake up in the morning, John Berman is there to welcome me (sigh).

by Anonymousreply 54August 8, 2023 12:50 AM

R25 I watch ATK on Pluto. Gonna see if episodes are different on FreeVee. Thanks!

by Anonymousreply 55August 8, 2023 12:56 AM

NHL Hockey.

by Anonymousreply 56August 8, 2023 12:59 AM

Another vote for America's Test Kitchen. Very soothing.

by Anonymousreply 57August 8, 2023 1:14 AM

r25, the reason I like PlutoTV is that you don't need an app.

by Anonymousreply 58August 8, 2023 4:27 AM

The Office. I don't have to watch or listen. It's comforting and I fall asleep within 20 minutes.

by Anonymousreply 59September 29, 2023 12:13 AM

Murder, She Wrote. Those faux Maine accents are as good as a lullaby!

by Anonymousreply 60September 29, 2023 12:25 AM

Forensic Files for me - sometimes Dateline.

by Anonymousreply 61September 29, 2023 12:38 AM

I listen to POTUS channel on Serius XM radio.

by Anonymousreply 62September 29, 2023 12:47 AM

Eight is Enough on Tubi.

Or Family (Sada Thompson, 76-80) on YouTube.

by Anonymousreply 63September 29, 2023 12:54 AM

Oddly, Californication

by Anonymousreply 64September 29, 2023 1:04 AM

SpongeBob. Reminds me of old school Looney Toons

by Anonymousreply 65September 29, 2023 1:05 AM

+1 for Midsomer Murders and Murder, She Wrote. And Gardeners’ World.

by Anonymousreply 66September 29, 2023 1:13 AM

Pluto used to have a channel featuring the trips of trains from the perspective of a front-mounted camera. So three or four hours at a time of video with lovely scenery and white-noise train sounds. I slept and napped to it all the time and miss it very much. I know there are YouTube videos of similar trips, but it's not the same.

by Anonymousreply 67September 29, 2023 1:13 AM

Golden Girls

by Anonymousreply 68September 29, 2023 1:18 AM

The Office definitely has ASMR principles and I find it mostly very soothing.

Years ago I used to feel the same way about Ina Garten on Barefoot Contessa and As Time Goes By.

by Anonymousreply 69September 29, 2023 1:23 AM

News channels and the Simpsons.

by Anonymousreply 70September 29, 2023 1:29 AM

That youtube channel with the woman from Azerbaijan who cooks.
