The whole bit about Charlotte overcoming her insecurities by realizing she isn't the fattest girl at school was a throwback to the old Sex and the City. I loved it.
Actually, I kind of loved this whole episode. I think this show is growing on me. Just in time for it to be cancelled.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 4, 2023 3:33 AM |
The dress did look better without the pink belt. But how hard would it have been for Charlotte to pick another dress that was more flattering and less form-fitting?

When I watched it the 1dt time, the same happened but they fixed it when I watched it the 2nd time

I would have liked to have seen more of how Charlotte got her gallery job.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 4, 2023 11:57 AM |
That promo does not show Carrie at Aidan's house with his children. The fact that they think we are more interested in Lily and Brady, or Seema, shows how misguided the producers are.

R5. Thank you!!!

So…instead of the original plan of Samantha sexting Brady….they decided to have Charlotte’s daughter do it.
How original!

I'm telling you, this relationship between Carrie and Agony has a kind of a manic quality to it.
It's gonna blow up and turn out it's still grief at play.
Either that or it's really really bad writing and with these hacks, it's quite a cliffhanger...

[quote]Did I miss a moment where Carrie either asked if she could or told Seema she was bringing Aidan to the beach house?
I just assumed in typical Carrie narc fashion, she just tossed away her commitments to her female friends in favor a whoever she's banging at that moment.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 4, 2023 1:48 PM |
It’s bizarre how they lean into wealth on this version. Even the stuff that Aidan and Carrie bought for Che’s apartment was high-end Le Creuset and Nespresso and whatnot.

It's Lifestyle of the Rich and Famous.

I noticed that too, r13. I also figured it was product placement and they were paid for that advertising.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 4, 2023 2:19 PM |
Does Carrie have any redeeming qualities?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 4, 2023 2:39 PM |
This season is a huge improvement from season one but it still fails to capture the wit of the original series. The women were much more dynamic and interesting in its heyday.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 4, 2023 3:00 PM |
Not mentioned yet.... "... and I've been having the best orgasms I've ever had." An odd thing but it kind of works to show the goofy infatuation of these late middle-aged ex-lovers. Aidan is taking care of "down there" and Carrie is falling fully into it. Orgasms. Plural. She's become multi-orasmic.
I don't get the rapid fall from "TV series pilot and wildly successful stand up comedian with tons of friends smoking weed all night" to needing to work the counter at a vet and working through lunch 'cause you need the overtime pay. It just seems to be an artificial plot element, not remotely related to what real life would be. That being said, Che has become one of the most interesting characters on the series...
And I liked Seema looking all insecure, selfish, hurt, and weathered. Made her more complex. I wonder if the show thought she looked "good" coming to the lunch at the end... she looked over-dressed, over-groomed, and desperate to make an impression.
Charlotte is a pudgy little womp womp... seeing her try to navigate the workplace of younger, willowy, Bard grads and seeing Miranda try to exist successfully in a workplace full of Gen Z schlubs ... all setting up more interesting plots in "next" season.
Last, there is no way the young beautiful Italian poet falls for the catty, greasy, queeny, rat-faced Anthony. I mean weird things happen, but we need to understand the Italian's mindset a bit. I'd actually like it if Anthony turned him down... too young and untested for the old boy. Surprise us.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 4, 2023 3:28 PM |
If IMDB is correct, Aidan will be in the final three episodes.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 4, 2023 3:32 PM |
Do we think the show will get canceled? I think a lot of people still watch it. But can SJP’s ego take the bad reviews?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 4, 2023 3:44 PM |
Caribe never would have made that comment about Big being a mistake if he hadn’t died. Sure doesn’t seem like the money she got out of it was a mistake. Her face is so offensively ugly. She’s like an even uglier Marjorie Taylor Green. But she will get a perfect ending to her perfect life. I wouldn’t be surprised if the show has Aidan’s sons falling in love with her, competing for her attention and wanting to have sex with her. The season will end with her “fairy tale wedding”to Aidan and that’s why Samantha will show up for 30 seconds.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 4, 2023 4:14 PM |
The reason why Carrie and Che make really good friends: they're both narcissistic "artists."

R19: His ex, Kathy, makes her first appearance in the next episode.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 4, 2023 4:27 PM |
By the time the strike is over, interest in this crap-fest will have waned and there couldn't be new episodes until 2025 anyway, at which point, a show about about 3 hags on Social Security will be less interesting.
Mario and the poet is a gay fantasy. Just because MPK has a perky little hustler on set 24/7, doesn't mean that gorgeous man would ever fall for a bitchy queen like Anthony.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 4, 2023 4:54 PM |
If you think about it, all of the relationships were incredibly far-fetched. Big would never be with an egghead like Carrie (yes, she’s a bit of an egghead). Miranda would be with a hotshot lawyer, not with Steve. No way would Charlotte ever be with someone like Harry. And even Smith Jerrod would be with someone younger (well, he might be the exception). Not that they would be the best choices, but in real life, these relationships would never be.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 4, 2023 4:59 PM |
R20, she's claimed in interview(s) she does not ready any of it.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | August 4, 2023 4:59 PM |
R24 evidenced by the show thus far, they could have a high-school creative writing class craft the next season.
I do want to see Miranda channel her inner Evelyn Couch and school those interns on being older, more experienced and costing the firm less money to train. Doubt it'll happen, but I can hope.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | August 4, 2023 5:22 PM |
I think the Charlotte and Harry relationship is very believable and was plotted out really well in the beginning. The UES is filled with more attractive women married to older, plain, or sometimes even downright homely men.

R28. Amen
by Anonymous | reply 29 | August 4, 2023 6:09 PM |
[quote] No way would Charlotte ever be with someone like Harry.
I don't think it's that far fetched that she would be with him. Yeah, he's unattractive, but but he's still a successful lawyer. She would settle down with an ugly guy, but she wouldn't settle down with a broke guy. The thing that was unbelievable with Charlotte was that she would have stayed single for so long. In real life, she would have married young and had kids early and wouldn't have been lifelong friends with the other three. Maybe she would have been friends with Carrie for awhile, but after having kids, they would have gradually lost touch.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | August 4, 2023 6:20 PM |
Charlotte would have snagged a broker/doctor/attorney in or right out of college in real life and moved to Connecticut or some wealthy enclave near NYC but in the burbs.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 4, 2023 6:44 PM |
Harry is still a practicing lawyer? He is always at home. Maybe things have changed, but the lawyers I used to know were at work like 14 hours a day.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 4, 2023 7:43 PM |
Harry represents Charlotte's personal growth. In the original series, Charlotte was incredibly shallow and favored the handsome, rich doctor type. She had her checklist and liked to follow the rules. She soon discovered the good looking guys like Trey took away her ability to feel love. Yes Harry certainly was not Prince Charming but the sex was amazing and more importantly she felt for the first time a connection. Harry fulfilled his purpose: Charlotte grew and evolved.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | August 4, 2023 7:50 PM |
R30 and R31 are probably right about her marrying young, except maybe the art gallery component would have kept her in NYC. In the early seasons, they really leaned into the art aspect.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | August 4, 2023 7:54 PM |
The Victor Garber character offered Charlotte the gallery job. I think it was in episode four. However, the Hamptons thing with Seema came out of nowhere and I don't recall any sort of context being provided.

I know others have bemoaned the new characters as filler but I really think the writers would have done a better job without them. Now they make big narrative jumps for the 3 original characters that need explanation.

It just seems to be an artificial plot element, not remotely related to what real life would be. That being said, Che has become one of the most interesting characters on the series...
And that was the big, huge problem they made with Che initially. They decided to make her "outrageous" but also universally beloved in the stupid Hollywood way (cause that's what they all want to be). They should have realized from the start that she'd be a problematic character, and anything but beloved. Someone who struggles to make it as a nonbinary, because the truth is most people find that annoying. And the struggle would be infinitely more interesting than any kind of Everybody Loves Che bullshit.
Of course, the writers still kind of suck so they just sort of pretend the past is not real, but at least they have finally gotten the big problem through their thick skulls.

[quote]I know others have bemoaned the new characters as filler but I really think the writers would have done a better job without them. Now they make big narrative jumps for the 3 original characters that need explanation.
They needed new characters beyond replacing Samantha and the revolving door of boyfriends. There's just too many of them to tell a coherent story.
The problem with the show is that the core group itself of four used to be a character - the group, the group dynamic - it had life. Now, they all go off and do their own thing and get back together to humblebrag, whine, or seek validation.
Ultimately, the problem is that they fail the basic story test for writing: Whose story is it? What do they want? What's preventing them from getting it? How do they overcome it?

"Miranda was really hypocritical asking Carrie if she was rushing things with Aidan. Miranda in a heartbeat threw away her family as if it was nothing to be with Che in LA."
If she was judging her, that would be hypocritical. Simply asking her, I don't think so. It's like if an alcoholic was asking a friend about the friend's drinking out of concern. That wouldn't be hypocritical.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | August 4, 2023 10:18 PM |
I'm always happy to pile on Miranda but I didn't think the question was out of line. Seema said the same thing. And this thing is a bad idea, which I hope is the story they're telling but I think isn't.

by Anonymous | reply 53 | August 5, 2023 3:10 AM |
I just realized what's missing from this whole AJLT series: gratitude. There's been tons of loss, and the reactions to that are certainly understandable but there hasn't been much gratitude for what these people still have after everything that's happened. I thought that during the umbrella scene when sCarrie expressed her fears to Seema about what space does to relationships. It reminded me of the "you can disagree but you can't leave" scene from season 1. Those two scenes are the closest this show's come to the spirit of the original show.
Also, who else saw the pic of Samantha?

I fast forwarded through most of this episode.
Same old same old. Just Carrie and Aiden looking like melted cheese this time round.
And as far as Big being a mistake well....that's just not true to the entire impetus of the series. Aiden was always *the* mistake, for reasons that have already been well illuminated.
Are we really going down this road again?

[quote]But how hard would it have been for Charlotte to pick another dress that was more flattering and less form-fitting?
You seem to have missed the point. It has nothing to do with "wearing flattering clothing" and everything to do with accepting the fact that a 56-year-old woman's body does not, and *should* not, look the same as it did 30 years prior. Even women who aren't "fat" oftentimes develop a pooch of sorts after they hit 50, unless they literally starve themselves a la SJP.
[quote]Did I miss a moment where Carrie either asked if she could or told Seema she was bringing Aidan to the beach house?
No, but if he's spending half of his time with Carrie in NYC and she's spending most of the summer in the Hamptons, it's an obvious conclusion that she'd want to take Aidan with her at least some of the time. NYC summer houses have a few unwritten rules, and openly bringing dates is almost always allowed, especially if it's getting serious (and for all Seema knows, they could be engaged by summertime).
[quote]Big would never be with an egghead like Carrie (yes, she’s a bit of an egghead). Miranda would be with a hotshot lawyer, not with Steve. No way would Charlotte ever be with someone like Harry.
Seriously? The real Candace Bushnell – roughly as attractive as Carrie – dated the real Mr. Big and ended up marrying the equivalent of Carrie's final-SATC-season retired ballet dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov. Cynthia Nixon's longtime wife is, well, a classic bull dyke, and far *less* physically attractive (and far heavier) than Che (never mind Steve). Kristin Davis is either asexual or a still-closeted lesbian, one who gave up on even the pretense of dating over a decade ago. Adopting two kids as a single woman is a bit of a telltale sign, plus anyone who remembers the old NYSD days knows that NYC socialite women date PLENTY of older, fugly men.

Not sure about that, but Apple's gotten more product placement this season than on any of Apple TV's *own* shows. Carrie needing to buy a new MacBook was even created as one of the show's plot points!
[quote]I don't get the rapid fall from "TV series pilot and wildly successful stand up comedian with tons of friends smoking weed all night" to needing to work the counter at a vet and working through lunch 'cause you need the overtime pay.
Fair - that's a definite stretch. OTOH part of that storyline is Che being basically irresponsible and acting like they're still 25 or something; they're partying all night at 46 (!) instead of, you know, paying the rent and buying more than a handful of soup spoons for their apartment. (Also, since it's NYC, Che would've paid first & last month's rent plus one month security deposit, which for her place was likely around $12K. Comedians, in general, also tend to lie low after they have a huge project crash and burn like Che's sitcom.)
[quote]Kim is going to get a shitload more publicity when that cameo drops.
Kim also plays the lead on the new Netflix drama "Glamorous," which may be the single queerest show on TV right now.
[quote]50+ women always have told me that they have zero sex drive.
Gee, if a handful of 50+ women have told you this, it MUST apply to every woman on Earth over 50!!!
[quote]Caribe never would have made that comment about Big being a mistake if he hadn’t died.
More like she never would've made it had Chris Noth not been cancelled for alleged sexual assault. (He was supposed to be in several S1 flashbacks, including one during Carrie's trip to Paris – Noth was *spotted* there filming scenes with her, and shortly after his scandals became public, SJP went back solo to reshoot the scenes – but they were cut.)

They brought in all these new characters to add some diversity. The problem is all the new characters are basically just supporting the white female protagonists. Going with Charlotte to the shops, helping Carrie sell her apartment, letting Miranda freeload in her Brooklyn apartment, etc.

Writers keep doing what you're doing. The Aidan reunion is a little bizarre but other than that the 2nd half of this 2nd season is a nice improvement over the 1st half. The 1st half was terrible - the LA stuff, Che's ex husband, the completely unrealistic Peter Hermann episode, the completely unrealistic scene where the Australian guys hit on Carrie and Seema, and of course all things Che.

R91: I don't know. I agree with the poster who said in the Part 3 thread that Giuseppe is up to something with Anthony and may not be 100% gay. I just hope we get a nice nude sex scene but Mario Cantone has never been big on nudity.

Adding these new characters has done nothing to help diversity. Che backfired in season one and is slowly redeeming themself in season 2. Referring to Lisa as 'black Charlotte' was weird since they never referred to Charlotte as 'white Lisa.'. Nya is boring. They got it right with Seema who comes across as a real person who is flawed but likable. End the series for good with Carrie back with Aiden and Samantha's cameo. No need to keep dragging this out until they get it right.

[quote] No, but if he's spending half of his time with Carrie in NYC and she's spending most of the summer in the Hamptons, it's an obvious conclusion that she'd want to take Aidan with her at least some of the time. NYC summer houses have a few unwritten rules, and openly bringing dates is almost always allowed, especially if it's getting serious (and for all Seema knows, they could be engaged by summertime).
Sounds annoying, unless it's actually a group of people, some single, some not. If it's just two friends going, and then it's suddenly one friend and "the couple" it's annoying. Agree with Seema, just skip the whole stupid thing if it's going to be that.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | August 7, 2023 12:19 AM |
There's hardly any scenes with just Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte because of all the new characters and multiple storylines. Those coffee shop scenes are what made the original series. When Samantha comes back for the cameo, that phone call scene better have all four legacy cast ladies on the line.

Yeah Greta and the film are going to have a harder time dealing with the geezers in the AMPAS. The Academy is still predominately white, male, and of a certain age.

The four legacy characters are not on the line together it’s just a call between Samantha and Carrie and the only way Kim agreed to do it was to make sure she didn’t actually speak to SJP or MPK.
I agree though the show SHOULD have done a face time with all 4 characters and filmed Kim’s afterword and added it to the mix.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | August 7, 2023 2:26 PM |
You can’t achieve an organic give and take with one person filmed separately. A one-way call is the best you can pull off.

I think the answer is R117 that MPK was convinced that the audience had fallen in love with the brilliant new character of Che Diaz, that the audience no longer needed Samantha.

What I can't quite believe is that these stylish, affluent, professionally successful women - all in their 50s - would be so emotionally unsophisticated. They all seem to possess the emotional self-awareness and insight of not very bright teenagers. Why does her relationship with Big now have to be thought of as a melodramatic 'mistake'? Is it not conceivable that the right life decisions were made decades ago, and that now Carrie's a widow she gets an opportunity to revisit something that wasn't possible when she was younger? Surely, one of the few benefits of age is wisdom, but it all seems so stupidly, clumsily signposted in every episode.
Maybe the final episode will reveal that the whole series has been an adaptation of Freaky fucking Friday, and that's why they're all acting like a bunch of emotionally disregulated 14 year-olds.

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I actually enjoyed this week's episode. Far from perfect, for sure, but it was the first time in two seasons I wasn't looking forward to it being over with. Even Che didn't get on my nerves this week, and I could actually see myself accepting her character as ongoing (as long as she doesn't get back together with Miranda).
All three of the principal characters felt more like who they might have actually matured into than ever before, and I think that had a lot to do with it. The secondary characters actually felt part of the world for the first time. With one GLARING exception.
It's time to cut bait with Nya. She doesn't work. Nothing is going to make us care about her, the actress is not engaging, and she's never been anything but wasted time. When I actually would rather watch Che than someone else on the show, you know their character has to go. Get Miranda out of there and simply phase the character out (or just retcon her if there's going to be a Season 3). No one will miss her, and no one will scream about diversity. You've checked enough boxes.
Also, the stuff with Anthony and the cute boy is cringeworthy. I'm seeing wonderful, openly gay mature actors come on week after week (John Glover, Victor Garber, etc.) and given nothing to do. Pair one of them up with Anthony. The man is 63. And he's never been hot. The audience who watches this show doesn't really care if he's put with a sexy, young guy. Let's see a mature gay couple navigate the dating waters for once. Anthony and Giuseppe have zero chemistry and it just feels creepy.
Fix those two things and I think they would be well on their way to earning a third season.

Carrie looked very bad in this episode. I know the horse jokes are a beloved tradition here, but she really, really needs to do something with herself that doesn't emphasize her small eyes, big nose, and long chin. She's overall a nice enough looking woman, but the extravagant styling with the weird, severe hairdos, and the makeup with close-set black holes for eyes is just aging her terribly. She needs to soften it up considerably.
The fluffy kittens made it the best episode of the season. The new, huge apartment needs fluffy kitties, soon to be big, decorative tabbies.
by Anonymous | reply 153 | August 10, 2023 6:37 PM |
R153: I could barely look at her she looked so terrible in the scene where she talks to Victor Garber.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | August 10, 2023 6:46 PM |
She really did look terrible, but that's okay because so did John Corbett.
by Anonymous | reply 155 | August 10, 2023 8:02 PM |
SJP's hair is her biggest problem. It needs to be cut. It looks severely dry and damaged and what's with the so dark roots? Quit scraping it off her face and straightening it. She needs to embrace the curls like Andie McDowell does and, yes, get rid of the dark eyeliner.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | August 10, 2023 8:07 PM |
I think SJP’s hair looked its best in season 5 when it was shorter and natural wave.
The long, stringy hair of the 70s looks awful
by Anonymous | reply 157 | August 10, 2023 8:34 PM |
John Corbett looked ok in the black trunks last week but the tiny white briefs covering his saggy ass this week was a no no. He probably would have looked hotter in a plain pair of boxers.

Che's apartment management wanted to kick Carrie and Aidan out after 30 days. But Google says some airbnb tenants can stay longer and be long-term residents. I guess this was done to get Carrie out to find her new mansion. Plus Che is moving back.
by Anonymous | reply 164 | August 10, 2023 9:41 PM |
I almost hate to admit it but if their goal was to make Che more likable this season it worked. Stray puppies, kittens, losing out on sitcom stardom and ending up working in a vets office all made them a real them. I actually enjoy the Che scenes especially since they don't involve Miranda.
by Anonymous | reply 165 | August 10, 2023 10:00 PM |
The whole airB&B makes no sense. They aren't airb&B clients, they are friends with the owner. They could get a sublease for a year if they wanted.

Why do I have an unsettling feeling the Aidan reunion will end in tears. She's a loathsome narcissist incapable of positive growth and change. The writers really painted themselves into a corner. If for some reason she decides at the last minute she doesn't want a life with Aidan, they'll never be able to bring Aidan back ever again.
by Anonymous | reply 172 | August 10, 2023 10:26 PM |
Some weeks have been awful and a lot of weeks have been average but this was a good week. I like Che in doses and this episode delivered exactly that. Che has more chemistry in their platonic friendship with Carrie than they do in their romantic relationship with Miranda. Nicole Ari Parker is 52 so yeah this pregnancy thing is a little far fetched, thank God Brady and Lily didn't fuck, and yeah it's time for Nya to go which is a shame because she was so well written in the first season. The Giuseppee thing is a little creepy but as long as he's looking for a quick fuck it's fine. Just don't turn it into a running joke or continuing storyline in the next season.

The frau factor is driving the Aiden happily ever after, that's the basic demographic they're aiming at, no one under 40 I know is even aware of this iteration, and the friends I'd initially complained to about the lunacy in the first season of hate watching , women 40+ with kids are LOVING this new happily ever after more than the one with Big. He's 'so much nicer', or 'he's more attractive than Big' (understandable when you see the trolls they're married to). The writers would've been very stupid in souring this second shot at love bs.
I'm liking Aidens son! And he doesn't remind me of a ginger Dustin 'Screech' Diamond which is another plus for him. Miranda and Steves son looks nothing like either, why they cast him I'll never know.

I keep hearing rumors that the weird plot twist is Harry and Charlotte divorcing when she cheats with Kasabian.
by Anonymous | reply 184 | August 11, 2023 12:25 AM |
I think things are looking good for a season three. The second season got good or neutral reviews and longtime fans and devoted haters will always watch. They paid Kim a shit ton of money to do the cameo just in case it doesn't get renewed. On the other hand, this very well could be the end for all the reasons R174 mentioned as well as the SAG-AFTRA strike. Plus one of the dangers of a third season is that these writers fall too in love with their ideas and could easily ruin storylines so satisfactorily wrapped up in the season two finale.
by Anonymous | reply 185 | August 11, 2023 12:33 AM |
Harry is certainly acting weird. His line about the boss, "What, Kasabian thinks he can ask someone else's wife to stay and do his bidding until all hours?"
"someone else's wife"?? It makes it sound like, "MY wife is here to do MY bidding, not his." And what happened to everyone pulling together so that Charlotte could have the job in the first place?

Let’s be honest, though. It obviously was a pointed fuck you on Cattrall’s part. She chose a different costume designer to make a statement. And it worked.

The clothes in AJLT are outrageous—and not in a good way. I feel like the largest issue in this show is people cannot relate to the characters. In the original, the clothes fit their lifestyle and their jobs. No one was really super rich. Miranda and Samantha wore suits, Charlotte was a bit preppy, and no one wore designer shit. Carrie sometimes did, but they were singular pieces, a purse, shoes. The dress that Charlotte wore when they were touring the apartment was ridiculous. Who the hell dresses like that? People want relatable characters, these characters are not relatable at all because they don’t exist in the real world. Che, in fact, seems like the only real character this season.

That Charlotte dress was awful. Charlotte dresses like an 8 year old in an adult body. Lots of puffy skirts and bows and childish looking dresses. Also, her belts and waistlines are too high.
Her speech impediment was on display a few times too.

Go back to season 1 where Carrie wore a ratty fur coat and usually a simple black clingy dress. Samantha actually wore GASP jeans! Their wardrobes became more outrageous towards the end of season 2.

Episode 9 was okay, but not as good as 8. Seemed like it was just laying the pieces for the season finale. Lily and Brady - I just don't care. Nya emotional about ex having a baby - same. I laughed when the telegraphed Carrie selling or renting her apt to her downstairs neighbor who has to leave because "the gay guys" she's renting from need their place back. It's still sorta nuts that Aiden is back and apparently it's going to work out this time.

If that’s not clear, that’s on the writers…like every other misfire on this show.

Yeah this whole Aidan is the prodigal son thing would never happen in real life. They break up twice, he goes on to have a family of his own, and then 13 years later they fuck and fall in love again? R238, no. You can’t wear designer clothes and push the envelope. Case in point: Charlotte in the last episode.

So—just watched the latest: Carrie says the new space is two floors…that means *an* apt. not a full townhouse…but note that two floors would hardly ever = 4 bedrooms. Bad writing again…
Anthony is living in London Terrace Gardens, mid block on 23rd between 8th and 9th…that’s clear.
Based on the wrought-iron railing in the place Carrie was viewing, I might bet a few bucks that it was shot in one of the buildings directly across from LTG on the south side of 23rd (the old Millionaires’ Row). Either way they keep shooting in Chelsea on the same few blocks over & over…can’t wait for it to end.

"Carrie never seemed really in love with Aiden. She cheated on him, didn't want to marry him. I'm not watching anymore, but I seriously doubt they have enough scorching chemistry to overcome this basic incompatability."
I actually think they have fine chemistry in this third go-round. Separately, Carrie buying the bigger place, selling her own place, talking to the wife and listening to her concerns about the boys - all shows that she's serious and considering other people. BUT, while I think the visible chemistry is fine, it just came out of absolutely nowhere so I still find it just weird. There's not a lot of backstory about why they came back together and why Aiden would put himself out there with Carrie again. There's "sitcom plausible" reasons they could have developed, but they seemed to just rely on "this is a guy from her past who she once loved dated - twice."
by Anonymous | reply 263 | August 12, 2023 3:38 PM |
R260. She gave the ring back and guilted Charlotte into handing over her ring so she could put a down payment on her cunty apartment.

R260 if I remember correctly Miranda helped him choose the ugly ring. Samantha intervened (without Carrie's knowledge) to help him pick out something Carrie would like so she was shocked when he presented her with the second (lovely) ring.
From memory she also insisted he take the ring back. That was when he gave her the envelope with the ultimatum to buy the apartment or vacate.
But you're right, she's still an awful person.

I just watched that episode last night. Yeah, Miranda helped pick it out. I think I have to stop watching. I can't take anymore of Carrie. She is immature, impatient, selfish, and judgmental, and they all deserve a better friend than that. She deserves Big, who's a terrible person. Neither of them has any character.

It really should end forever this season. In this last episode I realized how truly awful every single person is and that only Samantha saved the show from being the piece of crap it is now. And I never like Aiden anyhow so Carrie and he should just go away into the sunset - Big was too good for her.
by Anonymous | reply 271 | August 12, 2023 6:05 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 272 | August 12, 2023 6:07 PM |
Big, the guy who jerked her around and wouldn't leave her alone in her relationship with Aidan even the second time around? She's a jerk for allowing it, too, granted. I could never stand his blubbery lips, to boot.
by Anonymous | reply 273 | August 12, 2023 6:16 PM |
Guys you didn't hear this here but I have it on good authority that the season finale will be poor Aidan's demise. He dies of a coronary in a weeping Carrie's arms after she finally feels comfortable enough to remove her bra during coitus.
by Anonymous | reply 274 | August 12, 2023 7:47 PM |
And at the funeral, while Carrie is breaking down in some designer get-up, choking back tears and saying "why is this happening to me again," as Charlotte, Seema, and Miranda try to console her, out of the corner of her eye she sees a man staring at her, arms folded, curious. She clears her eyes and looks over and sees that it's Alexander Petrovsky. "Alex-SAND-er"?? Afterwards they talk and agree to go for a drink, which leads to more, and eventually to a reestablished relationship. Little does Petrovsky know that he's signed his death certificate.

Berger, as much as I hated him, would have been a more interesting relationship to reestablish. He broke up with her because of insecurity and fear. Maybe he went on to resurrect his writing career or moved on to something else and being older and more mature, doesn't have that insecurity anymore. Or bring Justin Theroux's Vaughn back and he's a skinny-suit eccentric who now doesn't preejaculate and Carrie enjoys on his own merits since he's so much NOT like big. They don't get married but have an old NYCer "companion" relationship.

I don't think Carrie is relationship material for any man. I never could get over how she was out every night partying at the newest hot spot and leaving bfs behind. Most of her bfs were homebodies and not interested in the constant clubbing. That type of person is not compatible with a homebody. She should married Stanford because he liked that too.

In a very fucking cringey series, the Carrie and Aiden scenes push that aspect to the very limit. It's like walking in on your grandparents fucking - and I say that as someone old enough to be a grandparent. Forced and flesh-creepingly awful. In my hate watching, I have to fast forward.
Not that every episode doesn't have 100 wholly implausible details, but:
What person contemplating making an offer to buy an apartment is given a set of keys and run of the place for days to finalize the decision?
Charlotte, an art historian, might have married the world's dumpiest little ugly man, bit would never have cheesy Lord and Lady of the manor style portraits of her dogs in her entry hall. Maybe stuck away in some obscure corner for a sentimental laugh, or something a little edgy by a real artist, but this shit? Proudly displayed? Never. For someone snobby enough to work for Gagosian? Never ever. For art historians, taste trumps crazy Dog Mom art every time, without fail. And why is her huge apartment so bereft of art?

The only good thing the writers did this season was they made it so the character Che Diaz was no longer so smug and detestable. I do give them props for that--Sara Ramirez, who is genuinely talented, is at least no longer a national punchline.
But the show is just so played out. Its time is over. These characters seem like they exist in an alternate fantasy world more than they even did in the 90s and 00s. The weird draping clothes in loud patterns just make them look strange rather than glamorous.

Che in the last few episodes is interesting, a character who doesn’t self-announce everything.
Still, too big of a cast.

Kim returning for a cameo is a huge clue that this is it. She probably agreed to return to give the fans one last glimpse of Samantha. Is she doing it for the money? I'm sure they're paying her well but if she was really interested in money she would have agreed to do a third movie. Would Max be promoting it heavily if it was the end? Not really. They're getting enough publicity with the return of Samantha Jones.

R164 Airbnb has no say over an apartment in a building like the one they were staying in. Are you slow!!??? Serious question. You clearly never lived in the real world or on your own, living off mommy still in adulthood, but welcome to REAL LIFE. The management has a 30 day guest limit. My building also has a limit and I have to clear someone staying with me for a while beforehand with management.

So Lilly loses her virginity in one episode and fucks Ronald McDonald Jnr. the next? Pretty on par for a female in this show.
If this is the end of the series then Wtf was the point of the Wexleys? Diversity casting I know, but why continue with them as regulars at all? They have had zero development as characters and have contributed fuck all to the show as a whole.

by Anonymous | reply 358 | August 14, 2023 9:30 PM |
I dreamt last night that the Samantha cameo involved her driving and collecting the main characters (except Charlotte) in a car. Carrie, Miranda and Seema climbed into the back seat. Seema introduced herself and Samantha said "oh, so you're my replacement.". Then Seema saw a guy on the sidewalk and said something about wanting to fuck him, and Samantha said "you're definitely the new Samantha." Carrie blathered on about how happy she was with Aiden, Miranda put in little quips about being a single lesbian. The final scene of the series finished with Smantha saying "let's get out of here girls!" as they were filmed from above driving out of NYC over the Brooklyn Bridge.

OK, I'm R361, and in a subsequent episode, the foursome are in a perfume shop trying on anonymous scents. Miranda playfully sprays something on Carrie, who says, "Oh, great. Now I'm going to spend the whole day smelling like" a scent that turns out to be Apples and Hay.

I'd prefer Martha Bradshaw to be Carrie's sister whom her father had after he left (which Carrie has mentioned) or conceived before or during when he and Carrie's mom were together. They find each other and Martha is just a better version of Carrie - less histrionic, a respected career, a great husband and family, stylish but not in a ridiculous way. And she's super smart. She enjoys Carrie, but Carrie can't deal because she senses, that while she never says anything, Martha vaguely looks down on her. In reality Martha doesn't care - Carrie is just a "bonus sib" who came into view after Martha fully established her life; so she's not relying on the Carrie relationship for anything in particular. But Carrie's neurosis about what Martha thinks of her drives her batty

I’ve always wondered who would want these men who neglect their kids to resume dating after a divorce. It’s so sleazy. I mean, sure. a date here or there is fine. But this whole build a new life on a moment’s notice and heave my kids behind? Sleazy.

I thought Sara Ramirez was excellent tonite. They finally got us to understand Che without hitting us over the head. John Corbett's breakdown was way too much bad acting. Interesting how they handled Stanford and gave him a sort of happy ending. Anthony has always been dominant so I didn't find it all that strange that he's never been fucked. I liked the episode. Let's see what next week brings.

I thought it was the best episode so far. The dinner party feels as tho perhaps it's a series finale. Many storylines reaching a conclusion - Stanford, Nya, Lisa, Che, Steve, Anthony's ass. This episode felt like the first time we've really seen the Miranda and Charlotte we've known. I'd be sad if and just like that it were over. But such is life. This episode repelled me in so many ways. Che was the worst again--that "comedy," and that of the emcee, my god. No humor, just sarcastic remarks and nothing from Che but self-pride and arrogance regarding Their Gender Identity. Suddenly everyone's trans and enby and that's all they can talk about--why?
Zombie Charlotte and her bratty children, raisin-faced Carrie's new place with the hideous front door that looks like it came from a McMansion, Aidan being a crybaby, boring side characters. It was all so sad to see. The worst part is that I finally finished watching the original series (which I didn't even like very much, but it was higher quality than this), and now I feel I have to sit through another episode of the just to see how it ends.
I know, Negative Nancy, but "I can't help but wonder" why anyone thought this series needed to be made, and especially why all the main characters needed to be super-rich and unrelatable.

by Anonymous | reply 455 | August 17, 2023 10:56 PM |
I'm in the midst of re-watching 'Northern Exposure' in which John Corbett is handsome and charming, has a real sex appeal, and the quality of his acting falls somewhere between more than serviceable and really rather good. None of those things could be said for his turn in SATC and he's thoroughly terrible in this latest AJLT rehash. There's three decades between Northern Exposure and AJLT, but what a contrast between a good performance establishing an endearfing character and bad writing and bad acting aligning so strongly that he can get off the screen fast enough.

Whatever they do I hope they don't reunite Che and Miranda. Nobody wants that. Yeah stand-up brings out the worst in Che. I was starting to warm up to Che because they were a good friend to that selfish Carrie and I actually did feel a little sympathy when they looked at their old footage.

by Anonymous | reply 469 | August 18, 2023 2:56 AM |
Even though Max does not publicly disclose the episode ratings, you know next week will attract a larger audience than usual - let's say 8 million. I know everybody is joking about Kim winning an Emmy for a cameo but if they play their cards right it could happen. If the cameo is funny and poignant and the audience is left laughing and crying, her winning an Emmy would not be out of the realm of possibilities. Heck Ellen Burstyn got nominated in 2006 for a mere 14 second performance.
by Anonymous | reply 470 | August 18, 2023 2:57 AM |
R469 - if you do a freeze frame on the promo you can see who is there.
by Anonymous | reply 471 | August 18, 2023 3:00 AM |
R468: The promos are carefully edited so that snippet was probably meant to throw us off. They likely want us to think she's running to meet Steve because he wasn't at the table when Carrie makes her toast. All we know is it's either Steve, Che, or the UN woman.

Willie Garson apparently asked that Stanford not be killed off so I don't have a problem with the monk explanation. Also killing off the two closest male characters to Carrie would've been too much for both Carrie and the audience.
by Anonymous | reply 475 | August 18, 2023 3:11 AM |
They could have recast Stanford without our heads exploding.
by Anonymous | reply 476 | August 18, 2023 3:18 AM |
R473, I know a NYC private chef who's not Michelin-starred, but was formerly the executive chef at Union Square Cafe. Since even many affluent New Yorkers have largely nonexistent kitchens, they prepare everything possible at a commercial kitchen, aside from items that absolutely have to be eaten immediately after heating. In extreme cases I've even seen caterers bring "cooking trucks" and park them outside the party venue!
R475, Willie explicitly asked that Stanford not be recast. It's no longer the '60s, and showing such disrespect to a man's dying wish would not be permissible today.

I found the idea that Stanford became a Shinto monk after being dumped by his TikTok client and gave all his worldly possessions away ‘with love’ to be one of the most incredulous plot points of the entire series.
And yet, their little toast and Carrie’s wink felt like the only genuine and affective dramatic moment of the last ten episodes.
by Anonymous | reply 480 | August 18, 2023 7:26 AM |
The thing that irritated my about Anthony being an exclusive top is that in the real world? He'd be lauded by Gay Poets everywhere. Everyone wants a top. Even tops want tops. And being verse is so not generational. Or if it is? It would be a generation or two older than Anthony. And certainly not in NYC for chrissakes.
There's also no way he would not have already dealt with all the pluses and minuses of what it meant to be a true top before now.

They should have Carrie move to Virginia. The entire series is NYC as an additional character and Carrie's identity is so tied to NYC. Have her make a really big life move and give up NYC. Of course they won't do that, but it would be an unexpected ending.

Wow... and just like that, the show goes back to sucking the big one. What a terrible, completely unbelievable episode. Not one note rang true. I sincerely hope this is the end of this crap.
The one thing that made me laugh... Carrie's been in NYC for 35 years and she has to cobble together a guest list for her last supper that is largely comprised of people she hardly knows. You have 16 place settings... you're going to invite Jackie and Smoke? Nya? You barely know these people. I realize people move away, but damn...
Granted I wouldn't have 16 people to invite, but I hate people.

15 potential dinner guests that would be at least semi-realistic and fun for some cameos, and could have one-off interesting plus-ones: (1) Charlotte, (2) Harry, (3) Miranda, (4) Seema, (5) Seema's plus one, (6) Aiden, (7) Che, (8) Bitsy, (9) Susan Sharon, (10) Susan Sharon's plus one, (11) Enid, (12) Skipper, (13) Anthony, (14) Giuseppe, (15) Courtney (Amy Sedaris).
No plus ones for Che and/or Skipper because Miranda. Maybe Bitsy should be afforded one.
Steve - Wasn't sure given the breakup and, again, the Miranda issue. If Carrie got her approval, then maybe sub out Courtney, Skipper, or Enid for Steve. Major part of the show and many of my theoretical guests know him well, but realistically would it be too soon?
Nya and LTW out because they're more Carrie's associates, friends of friends, and not dating one of her friends like Giuseppe.

[quote]I found the idea that Stanford became a Shinto monk after being dumped by his TikTok client and gave all his worldly possessions away ‘with love’ to be one of the most incredulous plot points of the entire series.
I think you've *hugely* missed the point. Since Willie Gerson didn't want Stanford killed off onscreen, they HAD to devise a way for him to permanently exit the lives of the entire cast – with no possibility of return – if only so Anthony could get on with his life (and get more involved with the hot twink and his massive cock). Was it a bit OTT? Obviously yes, but if only for plot clarification's sake, it made sense for him to leave behind all of his worldly belongings to his husband.
The point of the show was supposed to be about Carrie dealing with an unexpected death, but as it turned out, the entire CAST had to deal with an ACTUAL unexpected death (and in the middle of filming). Carrie's found closure over Big, but Anthony also needed it for Stanford – and now he has it.

[quote]Kudrow isn't such a surprise given she worked with MPK on The Comeback. But it's hard to imagine they could insert Valerie Cherish into the AJLT world despite Kudrow saying she wanted to The Comeback 3. So presumably it is a new character.
MPK was on a podcast with an excitable and knowledgeable homosexual a couple of months back and discussed the possibility of Carrie and Valerie meeting. He also discussed a possible return for Valerie during the Covid lockdown which sadly didn't happen.
He also discusses a sex scene cut from the original run where Miranda meets the hot detective who investigates Carrie's shoe mugging, and Miranda gets really insecure about how attractive he is and drinks herself into oblivion. It would have been nice to see the hot detective shirtless but not the additional content - I DON'T NEED TO SEE THAT! PMSL

In a dark storyline MPK decided against because it features no obnoxious children, Lisette makes serious bank as a meth dealer, sex worker, and hit woman. If he hadn't edited it out to show Rock ordering pizza, viewers would have seen that, after leaving Carrie in the stoop of their building two episodes back, Lisette took her Uber to Massapequa, where she proceeded to demand payment for meth from a delinquent client, slice their throat when they insist they can't pay, and then fuck the deadbeat's dead body in the first SATC-universe scene involving necrophilia.
Oh--and she also has great income through her make-at-home arts and crafts.

The whole Anthony/Pretty Italian Twink subplot doesn't seem remotely true (I know, much of the serious is very far from any recognizable truth). Apart from the swishy Cantone claiming "top only" status... he'd really say, in 2023, "the bottom is the woman?" And what possible attraction does he have for the twink.... and Stanley, lost and depressed, stumbles into a Shinto temple and within a few months is a full-born monk working and living there forever? Nah. Shinto Japanese are not real friendly to westerners to begin with... let alone a stranger who appears unexpectedly.
As was pointed out upthread - Che on stage is the Che that annoys everyone. First problem is that she isn't remotely funny. Ok, use the relationship to build a routine on, but there wasn't one line that was funny.

Matthew Broderick playing Stanford would’ve been a bit too close to home….

[quote]Carrie never venturing to Coney Island once in thirty-five years is bonkers. It’s not a place high on my list, but I’ve probably been ten times in the past twenty years. At some point, you just have some reason to go.
I've been here closer to 30 years, but I've only been to Coney Island once, and it was because a friend was hosting an event there. I've never been to Staten Island, The Bronx, or the majority of Queens save for LIC, Astoria & LaGuardia - ever. (Also never been inside the Statue of Liberty or up to the Empire State Building's observation deck, though I did see the one at the Twin Towers before they fell.)

[quote]In a dark storyline MPK decided against because it features no obnoxious children, Lisette makes serious bank as a meth dealer, sex worker, and hit woman.
Jesus, I love you cunts!

I've lived near ski country all my 62 years and I've never been and never will ski.

For better or worse, a lot of people watch the show. SJP and friends will make sure the ending strikes a balance between series finale and cliffhanger. All tv shows have to do this.

[Quote]Kim didn't want to interact with any of the others but if she rings Carrie surely it's going to be a conversation. How does Kim do that alone?
I requested to film my scenes with the horse from Two Broke Girls standing in for Sarah Jessic, as my final "fuck you" to her and Michael Patrick. Pair of pretentious cunts with their two names.

Will SJP reboot Square Pegs next?

I have not read every article about Kim's return but is it possible that MPK and SJP didn't know that Kim was returning but once they did, MPK wrote her scene?

R591 how I read it was the head of HBO reached out to Kim and had her film the one scene in secrecy, giving her whatever she wanted to make it happen. He then told MPK & SJP to work it in.
