The series was mostly unknown while on the air, but had its own small loyal fanbase. In June the series was added to Netflix and has since broken records, and is a huge hit, leading to a potential revival series.
Meghans show “Suits” is finally a smash hit 4 years after it ended!

Just a gentle reminder, no matter how hard Markle's PR machine tries to imply 'Suits' was her show, she written out of said show a year before her engagement to Hasbeen.

Definately not a fan of Markle, but if the Sussexes are having money problems, maybe she should go back to "acting" as she does get an audience.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 1, 2023 11:43 PM |
It's not her show. She was a supporting cast member in the first season. I think she moved to full cast once her character started dating the one of the leads.
R4, I think she was written out because it wouldn't do for the future royal to be in anything as tacky as a mid-level TV show on a basic cable channel.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 1, 2023 11:43 PM |
R4 the haters just never stop. She was written out because she got engaged to Harry and left. The way the haters try to rewrite what is public knowledge blows my mind

I watched this show for 3 seasons and can't remember a single storyline. It was the most generic legal drama I've ever seen. About 3 folders got slapped on a desk an episode and someone stormed in or out of a corner office.

In fairness, OP, Suits was the most watched basic cable show and the second most watched cable show overall after Game Of Thrones.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 2, 2023 12:10 AM |
Rachel was written out of Suits because Meghan left the show. And she left the show because things got serious with Harry, who is a royal and Prince. Also, the royals were interfering with the writing of the show for her character, frustrating the producers and writers, so she saw it best to leave despite how much she loved her job.

Season one of “Suits” was its highest rated season, averaging 4.2 million viewers. R18 is just making shit up.
Season two averaged 3.6 million viewers. The final season couldn’t even get an average of 1 million viewers. It had less than 1 million.
I’m what world is that the second biggest cable series ever?

R21 OP here. I knew he was making that up. As stated above, it was a fine series but never a massive hit like that person wants to claim. It did fine but each season lost a lot of viewers when it didn’t have that many to begin with. 4 million is great but it’s not like Euphoria, where the season 2 premiere had over 20 million views. How that poster thinks 4 million qualifies as “the second biggest cable series of all time”.

4 million viewers is a hit for a cable show. Except for the finale, Sex and the City averaged around 4 million viewers throughout its run. You can't compare Suits to current shows (like Euphoria) that have a streaming audience. Streaming services reach far more people than the old cable channels.
I watched Suits when it was on, and enjoyed the first few seasons. But like many shows, it eventually ran out of ideas.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | August 2, 2023 12:47 AM |
She's AWFUL on this show. You really do have to wonder who she blew to get the part.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | August 2, 2023 12:49 AM |
Granted that I didn't watch a whole lot of TV at the time "Suits" was on (i.e., pre-pandemic), but I honestly never heard of the show until Meghan became famous as the royal girlfriend. Usually I would learn a lot about pop culture from magazines during hair-salon visits and, of course, online, but this show never registered with me, and no one I know ever mentioned it. I thought it must be very obscure, but it looks like I was wrong.

by Anonymous | reply 42 | August 2, 2023 1:18 AM |
She was adequate in the role. She was not nominated for an individual acting award, and there was no indication that the role would have led to her being cast as a lead in a major motion picture.

r11 Its a style over substance show about a drug dealer with photographic memory conning his way into working at a law firm that only hires people from Harvard with his bosses approval. You don't have to pretend it was anything more than something moderately entertaining to watch on a Thursday night just because Meghan Markle had a recurring part.

R31. 'Suits' was not the number one show on cable. It may have been number one on the USA Network, but that's not much of an accomplish. Please, 'Suits' was not number one on all of cable TV.

The best part of the comedy TV show "The Windsors" was the way the actress playing Meghan always said the word "Suits: "Ssssuitssss."

R45, it wasn’t number one, but it was number two for a time. See post at r45. I admit, it’s annoying to see people dismiss it, I enjoyed it a lot. R44 is right though, definitely a show with more style over substance. It lost steam around season five.

I actually like the show and I don't think she's terrible on it. Her outtakes are pretty funny. This girl I like.
It's the person she became after her engagement to Harry that's cringe worthy. I don't know if she was faking her personality to forge a connection with him because he's Prince Harry and she'd be whatever he wanted to be to land him. They were engaged after what, a year of dating? Less than a year? It always seemed like she lost herself, cut ties with her scumbag, WT family and tried to be Eliza Doolittle and perfect LA Boss Woman. She just lost her fun side in the process. If she stopped trying so hard to be perfect people would like her more. It's like a Taylor Swift syndrome. Only Swifties adore TS.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | August 2, 2023 2:00 AM |
No one said it was the number one show on cable, r51. Game of Thrones pretty much holds the title during that era. We’re just countering everyone who dismisses it as not being very popular. It was a very popular cable tv show.
Also, I cited the wrong post at r48. The post at r33 shows that it was the number two show in cable for awhile. As I said, it lost steam in the end.

[quote]Just a gentle reminder, no matter how hard Markle's PR machine tries to imply 'Suits' was her show, she written out of said show a year before her engagement to Hasbeen.
I watched the entire series when it first aired, cunt. "Suits" was literally never about her character Rachel, but she explicitly *asked* to be written out once her relationship to Harry got series. (Yes, it was before they got engaged, but they'd been dating for nearly a year when she decided it wasn't realistic to keep commuting from Toronto to London.) By necessity, her onscreen husband, Mike, had to also be written out, but they figured out a way to bring him back (without her) towards the end of the final season.
[quote]It's summer. SAG/WGA is on strike. There's not a lot to watch. Let's not give Suits more credit than it's due.
True, and the interesting part is that all the strikers seem oblivious to the fact that there are DOZENS of other long-running shows like "Suits" that aren't great but are definitely better than nothing (or continued reruns into 2028 or whenever they finally stop striking). "White Collar" with DL fave Matt Bomer could readily be next, and possibly even that awful "Burn Notice" crap.
[quote]Its a style over substance show about a drug dealer with photographic memory conning his way into working at a law firm that only hires people from Harvard with his bosses approval.
The drug dealer with the photographic memory was ridiculous, but BigLaw firms hiring solely from specific law schools isn't unusual in the slightest. (Which I say as a lawyer.) It's more common for federal appellate judges to ONLY hire clerks from Harvard or Yale Law – almost never both – but you're probably not getting hired at a Cravath Swaine or Paul Weiss without a T3 degree. (T14 means jack in such circles.)
But yes: the show is, like nearly every other legal show, ridiculous. It's supposed to be one of NYC's most prestigious (and huge) law firms, but the only partners ever seen are Harvey, Jessica and Louis. Real lawyers have expertise in specific niches; Harvey, meanwhile, apparently knows the ENTIRE world of law. Meanwhile, Jessica's final storyline was THE most absurdly cliche in the annals of legal series: saving a man from death row. (In the reality-based world, New York eliminated the death penalty entirely 20 years ago.)
And no, it was never particularly highly rated. I have *no* idea why it's doing so well on Netflix, though people in the entertainment industry seem just as baffled. I'm sure the "Meghan curiosity factor" is part of it, but again, the show was on for eight years, and it's been viewable in reruns in plenty of other places.
But, again, expect more of the same as long as the strikes continue.

Only that isn’t true. There being a strike didn’t erase all the movies and shows available on all streamers, tv, or available to download. The show didn’t get an audience because of a strike. That’s just silly.

Lordy, those WME clowns are certainly earning their salt on the Duchess of Hertz's behalf in this thread and all over the place lately. I wonder how long it will be before Ari Emanuel cuts his losses and cuts Harkle loose?
Regarding "Suits" the character (Mike?) who was with Harkle announced that he would be leaving the show before anything was announced about Harkle. Shortly thereafter, Harkle was written out of the series. Would she have quit anyway because of Harry? Probably, he was going to be her meal ticket from then on and she was just dying to "overhaul the British monarchy" in her own image, one presumes, so...
Here is more than anyone wants to know about why, exactly, Mike left Suits.

R68 she told the producers and writers she was leaving since midway through season 7. They knew she was leaving. Him announcing it first wasn’t because he decided to first. Cupcake, try reading the *source* material as well in the future. This question comes later in the same interview with THR:
Q: Did you and Meghan talk about the timing of both of your exits at all?
A: With Meghan, a lot went unsaid. Meghan has this whole crazy part of her life that’s just beginning now. In some ways, Meghan and I were the closest because we were the youngest people in the cast and both came in with the least experience. We grew up together over the course of the show. There was this natural sense that we both knew that the time had come for both of us. It went unspoken and we just enjoyed the hell out of the last few episodes that we got to shoot. We both knew that we wouldn’t be coming back.
I'm sure Patrick genuinely missed his wife, but he's never directly questioned whether he would've stayed had MM not ended up dating Harry. I take the lack of mention as a likely yes, that he would've stayed till the end (especially since the series was already winding down by then, with seven seasons having passed).

He was leaving the show. She was aging out of Hollywood and already going over to England and trying to bag a rich British man and a role on a reality show (WAGs or something similar). After some time, more visits over there and some misfires, she eventually hooked a prince.
Pretending that the Duchess of Hertz was "in demand" in Hollywood is laughable. She was already over 35 and had only done the suitcase girl with the fake tits gig and a role that was sixth on the call sheet at Suits - already a mediocre USA cable show.
She had been desperately trying to make it as an actress and she had failed in America. Nobody was trying to hire her off of Suits. She was fine in a supporting role on a cable show but anyone can do that. There was nothing network, nothing on the big screen, no starring roles - ever. She could get bit parts, nothing nothing nothing higher than sixth on the call sheet for the Duchess of Hertz. Next stop - Great Britain reality TV and old footballers! Ask Lizzie Cundy.

Once again, a little known re-run show "making it big" in the dog days of August isn't that great.
Besides, with the way Netflix (and the rest of the streaming services) manipulate and rig the way they count and track the number of viewers is all fucked up and can't be trusted.
This mediocre Canadian cable show has views nearly equalling Game of Thrones and other really huge, successful shows. Yeah, that makes sense.

R94, scammer with no law degree and a photographic memory takes the LSATs for weak college students trying to get into law school. He goes from that to being hired by a real law firm where his boss knows his secret but no one else does. Much hilarity and drama ensues.
Sixth down the list on the "Suits" call sheet was a 35 year old, rapidly aging out, totally unsuccessful actress (she was a suitcase holder on a nighttime game show). She played a paralegal in a supporting role on the show. Her character has a romance with our phony lawyer guy.
The supporting player/paralegal role was played by the actress who later became Prince Harry's wife.

Suits is the perfect example of a dramedy. This was discussed on that blind item thread and some people are mentioning shows like Will and Grace as a fucking dramedy. THIS is a dramedy. Dramas that aren’t heavy and have a light humor to a lot of it mixed with the light drama.

That was back when she still had her big fake tits and someone else chose all of her clothes. It made a huge difference.
Now she just looks as ugly on the outside as she is on the inside. It doesn't matter how many plastic surgeries and procedures she has these days, she's an awful, vindictive and hateful person. Everyone knows that about her now. It's why she's tanked in all the polls.
At the moment she's desperately trying to climb over Harry's drunk/stoned/coked-up body to throw him under the bus and maybe rise up a few points. This effort will fail. Everything she does fails, as she has proven time and time again. Tricking Harry into marrying her is her one actual success.
She'll lose Harry before too long. The children will eventually turn on her (think Mommie Dearest). This will not end well for the Duchess of Merching.

I’m watching for the first time.
Any wonder than Rick Hoffman’s Louis Litt and the sassy ginger secretary are the fan favourites? The characters played by Gabriel Macht and Gina Torres are snide and arrogant.

I keep misreading this thread's title as "Meghan's show 'Sluts'".
