My Favorite Movies
And yours too.
—The Manchurian Candidate-the original. Frank Sinatra, what could he Not do? Oscar winning actor, legendary singer, he could suck you in no matter what. And Janet Leigh at her most vulnerable and appealing self. I believe it was at the same time Tony Curtis (whom I dislike intensely-never trust a man who denigrates the mother of his children) was divorcing her. —To Kill A Mockingbird—a perfect film. It made such an impression on me as a child I will never stop being a Liberal.
—Singing In The Rain—my go-to happy place and song. —Anchors Aweigh—Gene and Frank together. I’ve said this before, you can’t take your eyes off Frank as he works to keep up with Gene. —Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid—there is nothing not to like in this movie. Redford never looked better and Newman was never more likeable. It really was a love story between two men. —The Godfather—of course. I loved all of it but I cannot forget the scene outside the hospital with Christmas lights and the solemn score, and Michael and that kid out there pretending to be heavies.

The Four Hundred Blows (Truffaut). Every scene perfect; beautiful, nuanced performances. OP, please see it if you haven't.
Shoeshine a close second.

I read a story about Manchurian that on the day they shot the scene where Jenny and Marco talk about getting married, was the day that Tony Curtis had served Janet Leigh with divorce papers.

Blue Velvet - Psychosexual masterpiece with a distinct aesthetic sense of Americana that relates I think in an interesting way to the subject matter. The veneer over things unseen so to speak.
Ghost Dog Way of the Samurai - It's cool and camp and I get a huge kick out of how seriously it takes itself.
Christmas Vacation - Very nostalgic for this film because we watched it as a family every year since I was a kid.
Office Space - One of the few comedy films that's laugh out loud funny to me from start to finish and I think the subject matter is still very relevant today, maybe even more so in the world of "quiet quitting".
Mishima: A Life In Four Chapters - It's very rare that a biopic doesn't completely suck. Visually stunning.

Most of Antonioni's 60's movies. Way ahead of their time and they are even more relevant today (given how disconnected we all are).
Femme Fatale
Taxi Driver
The Godfather 1 and 2

"Monty Python and the Holy Grail". Will never fail to make me laugh.
"A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum". I've read that the stage version is better, but I've not been fortunate to catch it on stage yet.
