Dame Helen Mirren IS Golda Meir (2023)
Tovah must be PISSED they wouldn't let her take her one-woman show to Hollywood.
It appears to center on Meir's leadership during the Yom Kippur War, as well as her heavy smoking and her clashes with that rat-fuck Henry Kissinger.
Will they mention her battlefield orders to send nuclear-armed fighters into the skies over Egypt and Syria, with orders to nuke Cairo and Damascus (and airburst bombs over invading troops) if Tel Aviv were breached and her cabinet taken prisoner?

And if one of you tasteless Catamites does a "Mein Fuhrer" on this thread about a Jewess who survived the Holocaust and co-founded the Jewish State, Barbra will send Mossad goons to your condo.

The make-up is impressive, but the voice is way off.

Could Siggy have done it? She would've needed more makeup than Mirren, and it wouldn't feel like Oscar Bait, but I wonder what she would've done with the part.

Casting controversy
In January 2022, British actress Maureen Lipman criticized the casting of Helen Mirren in the film, stating: "I'm sure she will be marvellous, but it would never be allowed for Ben Kingsley to play Nelson Mandela. You just couldn't even go there." The following month, Mirren responded by saying Lipman was "utterly legitimate" to criticize her casting, and she had discussed the decision to cast her in the film with director Nattiv.

The trailer is out. The nose prosthetic was a questionable choice. This looks like a disaster.

Helen Mirren held it together for a long time as a beautiful older woman, but it looks like she finally hit the brick wall.

Dame Helen seemed to say yes to the paycheck rather than a quality script for a long time now. Didn't she turn down the role of Social Worker in Precious, laughing at the salary offered?

I think she turned previous down to clash, r20. She had worked with Lee Daniels previously and does act in indie movies so I doubt it was about the pay.
It ended up being a good decision, because Mariah Carey turned out to be fantastic.

Oh dear. The prosthetic nose turned out to be a mistake. She’ll be accused of Jew Face now. Plus Helen has quite the impressive Russian beak herself, so the eyebrows and wrinkles alone would have made a huge difference.

Whenever I see actors made up like this, I always wonder whether the original could like like the actor.
If Mirren could be made up to look like Meir, the could Meir look like Mirren with a bit of makeup and better clothes.
When Charlize Theron played Aileen Wuornos, I always wondered whether Wuornos could have lost a few pounds and put on some glamorous makeup and looked as good as Theron.

OP Golda Meier and her family emigrated from Ukraine in 1905 to settle in Milwaukee Wisconsin. She and her husband moved to Palestine (under British mandate) in 1921. She avoided the holocaust completely.

No Barbie Yaaassss Kweens will see this, since they all recently decided to side with Palestine from social media indoctrination after the whole BLM/POC movement during COVID. They’re antisemites.

Golda spent the period of the Holocaust sleeping her way through the upper echelons of the Zionist movement in Mandatory Palestine.

R30 so will supporters of Neturei Karta - Orthodox Jews against Zionism.

What does DL think about the Bergman film? I saw it as a child and only really remember my parents praising her performance. There was a moment where Bergman's Golda, smoking a cigarette, thinks in a VO "I failed" and I remember being surprised that an adult would think such a thing. (I was eight years old.)

Let me tell you a story.
Picture it: Sicily, 1920. Two young girls pack their bags and leave their tiny villages to seek fame and fortune and a meal cooked without oregano. Their journey takes them to a seaside town where a ship prepares to depart for the New World. (Anybody can say Baltimore. There's an art to telling this story.)
Anyway, the price of steerage turns out to be 900,000 lira -- or approximately a buck and a quarter -- which is exactly the amount of each girl's life savings. One girl chooses to spend her money and take a chance on adventure. The other plays it cautiously and books only a ferry to Sardinia, saving the rest of her money for a rainy day.
I'm the girl who played it safe. Maybe if I'd made the other choice, I'd have been prime minister of Israel like my good friend Golda Meir. I almost married her husband, the man who perfected the hot dog -- Oscar Meyer!

It is a struggle getting through it, even on a rainy weekend. I don't know why it is so boring and unengaging. I'm a fan of Helen Mirren, a bit of an Israeli history buff and was looking forward to seeing it. I doubt I will watch it to the end.
