Lebanese American gay male wants to know how safe he'll be visiting Lebanon

r/lebanon-My dad was born and raised in Beruit. He's wanted to take us for years (we live in the United States). We want to plan a trip, but he's worried about me. I am gay, but you can't really tell. I'm considered pretty "masculine" for a gay man. He said I could get beat up or hated for even showing the slightest bit of my "gayness," hahaha. My brothers and I will probably go out, but he told me to act very straight. Is Lebanon really that bad with the LGBTQ+ community?

There's a glass ceiling for gay men in Lebanon.

Ha, I just read about this yesterday, as I would love to visit Lebanon. In brief, you should be fine IF you are willing to not air your sexuality. No PDAs. There are actually a few gay clubs, but PDAs will get the attention of bouncers there as well. Also, don't post online anything "gay" about your trip before or during your time there. The couple who wrote the blog below were told by officials at the end of their trip that they were not welcome back, and they think it's because they posted about the Beirut gay scene on Instagram.

Strange, I always thought Lebanon was one of the more progressive countries in the Middle East.

That is progressive for the Middle East R3. They didn’t stone them on sight.

Progressive for a Muslim country means they don't execute gays R3.

12 Muslim countries do.

He'll be spat upon in public and very, very popular in private.
