He's the third musician - Tony Bennett, Sinead, and now Randy.

by Anonymousreply 1July 27, 2023 11:03 PM

So sad. I love the Eagles. They were one of my families favorite bands. RIP

by Anonymousreply 2July 27, 2023 11:12 PM

Take it easy, OP.

by Anonymousreply 3July 27, 2023 11:17 PM

Oh, no. He was an amazing singer. He died from COPD. It's crazy to me when I think that singers whose livelihood and identity is their voice and they are smoking.

RIP Randy

He was boyishly handsome back in the day.

R6 …that gigantic necklace he has on…LOL

by Anonymousreply 7July 28, 2023 3:33 PM

I remember oversized turquoise jewelry was in fashion in the 1970s-1980s.

by Anonymousreply 8July 28, 2023 3:36 PM

He took it to the limit apparently.

by Anonymousreply 9July 28, 2023 3:37 PM

R5 Excessive drinking, smoking and the passing years had an obvious negative impact. But at least he still had his hair.

[quote][R6] …that gigantic necklace he has on…LOL

It's a bolo tie.

by Anonymousreply 11July 28, 2023 3:50 PM

I also have a turquoise bolo from about 30 years ago which I only wear occasionally to some concerts, but it's probably 1/3 that size.

by Anonymousreply 12July 28, 2023 3:54 PM

I'm from the desert southwest....... when the torquoise craze cooled down, it was a sad day for the jewelry business.

I don't think it has ever been the same.

I think it was in Don Felder's book that I read that Don Henley was a huge asshole for insisting that Randy sing continuous falsetto at the end of Take It to the Limit even though it hurt his throat.

by Anonymousreply 14July 28, 2023 7:26 PM

R14 That's the main reason he quit the Eagles. It was a challenge for Randy to always hit the high notes for Take It To The Limit consistently for every show.

by Anonymousreply 15July 28, 2023 7:32 PM

What about ME?

R11 It May be a bolo tie, but he’s wearing it as a necklace.

"Take It to the Limit" was the reason for a big fight between Glen Frey and Don Felder. Don didn't want to sing it every night (very strenuous on the vocal cords). Glen's retort: "You think I wanna sing 'Peaceful Easy Feeling' every night?" Peaceful Easy Feeling is a lot easier to sing.

Any fans of the Eagles, I suggest you watch History of the Eagles, Parts 1 and 2.

Glen and Don Henley come across like assholes, but I can understand why they thought they should get paid more than the rest. Those 2 were more disciplined.

Joe Walsh came across like someone just happy to have a job.

The Eagles are alright. And I understand he wasn't a spring chicken in that photo R5, and I know he had COPD, but yikes. That said, I've always enjoyed his vocals. He was a genuine talent and an icon.

I really liked this minor solo hit that he had in 1980.

Here he is performing it live on ABC’s SNL clone Fridays, mis-introduced by a seemingly drugged out Michael Richards as Rick Meisner.

He was the eye candy, however briefly,

The band was owned by the “classic 5” (leadon, meisner, felder, Frey and Henley) when leadon and meisner left in the 70s they have up their shares.

Henley and Frey wanted Felders share of the band in the early 2000’s but keep him on as band member and be a hired hand like Walsh and Timothy B. Schmidt are. Fielder said no and he was fired in early 2001.

I think Glen’s son Deacon is coming back for the final tour after leaving about a year and half ago.

R22 It's basically a money grab. Two of the Grand Funk Railroad band did something similar. Not too long ago band members Don Brewer and Mel Schacher convinced lead singer Mark Farner to sign an agreement to incorporate the Grand Funk name, then they voted him out, and he can't use any references to Grand Funk to promote his own shows. Really mean vindictive shit by the other two from greed.

FTFY r14
