Pretty much the entire Bush catalog. Ditto Creed. and The Bloodhound Gang. Thankfully
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 27, 2023 4:21 AM |
Oh god I remember when I was in total teenage lust with the lead singer of Creed. What the fuck happened to them? They were really good. Awesome cover of Riders on the Storm.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 27, 2023 4:23 AM |
R2 Bush was basically a boy-band version of Soundgarden.
BTW, I would add "Stay Awhile" (1996) by the late Colombian-American singer Soraya.

This is one I definitely turn all the way up.

Croak driven techno ditty I’d dance to in my room at night. Love the tribal dance break.

"I Know" by Dionne Farris.
ALL over the radio in '95, then pretty much disappeared forever.
Also a favorite of mine that qualifies is "As I Lay Me Down" by Sophie B Hawkins.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 27, 2023 5:40 AM |
R17, I like that one, too

Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth With Money in My Hand
Reminds me of my freshman year in high school. Such fun times!

One of my favs:
Something’s Always Wrong. From Toad the Wet Sproket

My friends and I were around 10 singing this sweet jam:
by Anonymous | reply 31 | July 27, 2023 6:13 AM |
Detachable Penis.
Beavis and Butthead introduced me to this song.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 27, 2023 6:19 AM |
Another Bad Creation’s Iesha. Ahh, elementary school love
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 27, 2023 6:22 AM |
Detachable Penis reminds me of Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver for some reason. I guess they’re companion pieces to me.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 27, 2023 6:25 AM |
Weird but catchy song. Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm by the Crash Test Dummies
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 27, 2023 6:26 AM |
#1 Crush.
Of the Romeo and Juliet 1996 soundtrack.

R25 Love, love, love Edwyn Collins (& Orange Juice). Still can't believe he had a hit in the 90s.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 27, 2023 6:34 AM |
Natural One by The Folk Implosion.
I actually forgot about this song until I heard a cover of it on the Netflix show Beef a few months ago. It’s a good one. The snare and bass are great.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | July 27, 2023 6:39 AM |
Concrete Blonde has two good ones from 1990 that are probably forgotten by most. The first is Bloodletting:
by Anonymous | reply 50 | July 27, 2023 6:46 AM |
And Tomorrow. Not as forgotten, but it still amazes me that they were only 15 here. Lead singer Daniel Johns has such a heavy voice for a 15 year old. It’s awesome.

Kiss Me by Sixence None the Richer (from New Braunfels, TX of all places)
I put this in the same category as Kiss Me by Len: dreamy 90s pop.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | July 27, 2023 11:51 AM |
Sorry, I flubbed my comment. I meant the same category as Steal My Sunshine by Len.
Also, Here’s Where the Story Ends by The Sundays

As usual a DL music thread mostly lists songs no one has ever heard of.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | July 27, 2023 12:45 PM |
Many of these songs are in regular rotation on Siriux Lithium channel.

Isn’t it beautiful? It’s so ethereal. And Harriet’s English accent is so thick that it’s almost jarring but in a charming, alluring way.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | July 27, 2023 2:37 PM |
The Wallflowers with The Difference. One Headlight was their big hit, this one kind of fell off.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | July 27, 2023 2:38 PM |
John Mellencamp- Key West Intermezzo
Matthew McConaughey is in the video. Still sexy in 1996.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | July 27, 2023 2:49 PM |
Heard this on the radio driving home from a football game. My best friend and I wound up going to three different record stores to find the cassingle. No idea who the artist o what the title was (duh) so we wound up singing it for just about every employee until someone got it.
She should have had a bigger career...

[quote]I could never be your woman
That got sampled on a song on Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia album, so it felt like a nice comfortable throwback to the 90s.
R34, I got to hang out with the guys from King Missile after one of their shows in a really tiny bar, which was weird, because it was packed but as soon as it was over the entire crowd split and it was just them and me and some fiends so we sat and talked to them. Very friendly, but I was drunk enough to not remember anything we talked about. Nobody that went had any interest in sticking around to meet them. We didn’t even plan to stick around to meet them, we just wanted to keep drinking!
by Anonymous | reply 95 | July 27, 2023 2:58 PM |
When I first saw this video I thought someone was Martha Wash-ing these girls. A month or so later I saw them perform at Virgin Megastore, and as my friend said, "they sang their faces off." The blond is Fergie.
"At Night I Pray" Wild Orchid
by Anonymous | reply 97 | July 27, 2023 3:15 PM |
Were most of these “remembered” back in the 90s? I only recognize maybe a third of them and I was a pop music/MTV junkie at the time. But there have been a few genuine “holy shit I had forgotten all about that song” moments on the thread so thanks for all the contributions.
R17, I love that song too and didn’t realize it wasn’t well-liked. I still find my self singing the chorus on the regular
by Anonymous | reply 99 | July 27, 2023 4:28 PM |
I think we’re just trying to avoid the obvious hit songs. Some may be a little obscure, but like you said, there’s a few great gems here that I personally had forgotten.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | July 27, 2023 4:35 PM |
This was such a huge slice of Velveeta but it always sucked me in. I always imagined he was actually singing to a guy, maybe the same Jesse as Carly Simon. Similar song themes

I attended university in Canada and the indie music scene was vibrant in the 90s. Lots of bands performing in local college bars.
Canadian Band The Philosopher Kings had a really great tune which just sprang to mind - Baby It Hurts To Love You
by Anonymous | reply 102 | July 27, 2023 5:14 PM |
R89, love that tune
by Anonymous | reply 103 | July 27, 2023 5:15 PM |
Crush - Jennifer Paige . It was a semi hit back then
by Anonymous | reply 105 | July 27, 2023 5:18 PM |
Tracie Spencer - This House
Big hit at the time (top 10 pop, R&B & dance), but I don't think I've heard it since.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | July 27, 2023 5:36 PM |
I got into a debate recently with a friend who insisted The Rembrandts were a one-hit wonder for the Friends theme song. I argued they couldn’t be a one-hit wonder as I knew them first for Just The Way It Is Baby, a top 15 hit from 1990. But I concede that one doesn’t seem very well remembered today
by Anonymous | reply 109 | July 27, 2023 5:44 PM |
Walking on Broken Glass by Annie Lennox is one of my favorite 90’s tunes.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | July 27, 2023 5:52 PM |
Lovin' Arms- Darden Smith

Enigma- Return to Innocence. One of the best songs on the Pure Moods cd. Who can forget that opening chant?
by Anonymous | reply 112 | July 27, 2023 6:30 PM |
Stereophonics - "The Bartender and the Thief" (1998)
by Anonymous | reply 113 | July 27, 2023 6:57 PM |
Smashing Pumpkins- Disarm. Decently known at the time, perhaps forgotten a bit now

[quote][R89], love that tune
Ugh. I did until I found out what it’s about, then I was just too nauseated to listen to it again. It’s not the song. I loved the song. It’s the backstory.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | July 27, 2023 7:36 PM |
R121 okay, how about this Filter song? It’s about the lead singer getting drunk and stripping on an airplane. No suicides here.
by Anonymous | reply 123 | July 27, 2023 7:44 PM |

Early 90’s were the shit. I remember this being played in the roller skating rink.

R123, I lost count of the number of times I blasted this song from my dorm room nack in the 90s
by Anonymous | reply 126 | July 27, 2023 7:49 PM |
Simply Red - "Something Got Me Started" (1991)
by Anonymous | reply 127 | July 27, 2023 7:55 PM |
R123, yes I liked that one but always liked Nice Shot Man more because I do like music that’s a little dark and heavy. Just not based on a true story that makes me wanna puke. Like I said, definitely not their song that I didn’t like. It was what it conjures up in my brain. And I’ve never seen the Budd Dwyer video even though I’ve seen it linked to many times online.
Will. Not. Watch.

by Anonymous | reply 130 | July 27, 2023 8:07 PM |
R112 I forgot about Return to Innocence. I remember Enigma more for Sadeness, which is probably better remembered since it was featured in Basic Instinct. I never had Pure Moods, but Deep Forest was probably on it.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | July 27, 2023 8:15 PM |
R131
Thank you! That’s the one I was trying to grab from the far reaches of my mind.

Butthole Surfers- Pepper
Three terrible band names in a row!
by Anonymous | reply 139 | July 27, 2023 8:32 PM |
I think Jane’s Addiction is still well known, but his follow up band Porno for Pyros is less so. Amazingly Perry Farrell is still alive at 64 years of age now.

Everyone forgets that classic hit from 1897, "Break the News to Mother." But not me!
by Anonymous | reply 141 | July 27, 2023 8:34 PM |
I loved "Candy Rain" and "Knockin' Da Boots"
by Anonymous | reply 144 | July 27, 2023 8:38 PM |
Hanson- Where’s the Love.
As a young teen when this came out, I didn’t want anyone to know I like it a lot. Hanson wasn’t a ‘cool’ band. It’s a guilty pleasure song.

"Follow You Down" - Gin Blossoms. So '90s, I could watch my tape of Monday's Party of Five ep next.
by Anonymous | reply 153 | July 27, 2023 9:03 PM |
OMG, I LOVE so many of these songs — this is a great thread!
R49 - Beef reminded of that song too. I couldn’t find the original on Spotify, but the cover isn’t bad.

New Radicals - You Get What You Give, featuring Danielle Brisebois (who should be a DL darling).
by Anonymous | reply 162 | July 27, 2023 9:23 PM |
"Found Out About You" is my favorite Gin Blossoms song
by Anonymous | reply 165 | July 27, 2023 9:37 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 167 | July 27, 2023 9:42 PM |
If You Asked Me To by Celine Dion.
She had a lot of 90’s hits: All By Myself, My Heart Will Go On, Because You Loved Me, Beauty and the Beast, It’s All Coming Back To Me Now, Misled, etc. but I always liked this one.
by Anonymous | reply 169 | July 27, 2023 10:00 PM |
Staring at the Sun- u2. A good song of theirs.
by Anonymous | reply 171 | July 27, 2023 10:11 PM |
Walking on the Sun- Smashmouth. Lead singer is an ass I think, but catchy song.
by Anonymous | reply 172 | July 27, 2023 10:11 PM |
When Paula Abdul decided to ditch her "Forever Your Girl" producers in favor of the guys from The Family Stand for the follow-up, some of the songs previously slated for her instead went to the unknown up-and-comer Stacy Earl.
She managed to take a couple of them into the top 30 on the pop charts, which wasn't bad for a newcomer, but far below Paula Abdul numbers. The album tanked, and both she and her music disappeared from the scene soon after.
by Anonymous | reply 173 | July 27, 2023 10:22 PM |
R162, one of the best one-hit wonders of the 90S if not ever. Don’t know if folks will get the references to Beck and Hanson one day (I suspect Courtney Love’s legacy will be immortal and hope Marilyn Manson’s is lost to history soon).
by Anonymous | reply 175 | July 27, 2023 10:44 PM |
Fast Love. I thought George looked so hot in this video.
by Anonymous | reply 176 | July 27, 2023 10:48 PM |

R162, I wish the New Radicals hadn't fallen by the wayside so quickly. As good as "You Get What You Give" is, their not as successful "Someday We'll Know" has stuck with me more over time, but that may be because it reminds me of a close friend who died of cancer in our 20s. At least Gregg Alexander had some success as a songwriter later. His rendition of "Lost Stars" is far better than Adam Levine's.

I played the shit out of it in 1995-96.
The trip-hop era was just wonderful.

Eric Matthews - Fanfare
This may be a really obscure one, but it did get airplay as I remember hearing it in 95, in particular one rainy night driving on the DC Beltway. I’d totally forgotten it, but within the last year I heard it somewhere randomly. So many of these songs evoke memories of hearing them at a particular time and place.

Let's hear it for third singles - just as fab as both Connection and Stutter are.

Also this.
Possibly my favorite '90s song of all. What does it take to turn you on?

In the mid 90s, Jane Wieldin formed a band called FroSTed with a modern "pop-punk" sound. The best song on the album was Amerinoid,
It also contained a song called My Boyfriend, with the refrain: My boyfriend was a teenage hustler.
The capital ST stands for Star Trek

R23, I still hear this one on the radio (occasionally).

Funny that many of the songs posted here have hundreds of millions of streams on youtube and/or spotify. That's not really "forgotten".

R313, a special edition of Suede was released recently, on blu-ray audio and CD.

No, but personally, I have forgotten about some of these songs and it’s been nice to be reminded of them. They’ve left my mind but came right back when I listened to them.
Thanks all!

Yeah, the mainstream music scene in the 90s was definitely WAY more diverse than the one today

Sunny came Home by Sahwn Colvi was a favorite summer tune of mine back in the 90s

This song brings me back to Sept 1999, "frosh week" I had just over into my dorm and jammed to this song while unpacking my bags. What a relief it was after having said a long goodbye to my tearful mother who was worried for leaving her son in a foreign city/ country

R321, your mother didn't insist on helping you unpack your bags??

Mom wasn't there, R322. She couldn't get a visa due to her numerous drunk driving and public indecency convictions.

That wasn't me @ r323

A friend and I used to call this the Happy Penis Song whenever we would hear it at the clubs, due to mishearing the lyrics

She Ain’t Worth It - Glenn Medeiros (featuring Bobby Brown)
Funny to think Glenn was the draw and Bobby the parenthetical but 1990 was a very different time

This was only a minor hit which surprises me. Maybe she couldn't compete with the international Merril Bainbridge - Donna Lewis baby-voiced pop market.

Makin' Happy (Hurley’s Happy House Mix)
BTW, it STILL bangs.

I'd forgotten about this one until Lucozade recently started using it in their TV commercials in the UK.
Ini Kamoze - "Here Comes The Hotstepper" (1994)

At the time, I thought these girls would eventually be a lot bigger, but they never really broke out in any meaningful way.
I suppose their association with MC Hammer cost them. When his career hit the iceberg and sank, so did theirs.
Oaktown's 3.5.7 - "Juicy Gotcha Krazy"

^I haven’t forgotten about Stay. I was just listening to it recently. An “eternal” jam, pun intended.

That’s What Love Can Do by Boy Krazy is pop perfection. One of SAW’s best.

Long forgotten lower tier girl group - Breaking all the Rules by She Moves.
I like all the dramatic hair flipping in the toilet stalls.
