Patricia Clarkson
Born to a medical school professor and a politician, her original plan was to become a speech pathologist, but "somehow" ended up with a Masters in Fine Arts from Yale.
From New Haven to New York, she instantly became a Broadway regular. This led to Brian De Palma casting her as Kevin Costner's wife in 1987's The Untouchables. Since then, she has become a dependable actress, from Jumanji to The Green Mile to Far from Heaven to All the King's Men.
Always poised, always elegant, and always patrician. Let's discuss the American actress Patricia Clarkson.

Always liked her. I think the first thing I ever saw her in was a low-budget horror movie called "Wendigo", which was actually pretty good. I've followed her career ever since and will watch pretty much anything she's in—she's just a consistently good actress. I went to a musical showcase at Lincoln Center several years back while I was in grad school, and she sat behind me. I recognized the voice immediately.

She’s a good friend of a friend of mine so I’ve been with her in social situations a few times. She’s delightful and has a keen sense of humor and a great laugh.

She’ll be starring opposite Brian Cox in Long Day’s Journey Into Night in London next spring.
I loved her in the horrendous Sarah Michelle Gellar romcom Simply Irresistible. That’s the film where Betty Buckley was not only fired at a lunch break, she was personally escorted off the soundstage in Long Island City.

Echoing what others are saying - when I see a movie in which she's been cast, it always piques my interest and she does a consistently good job with her roles. She's funny and you can definitely tell she'd make a great friend. She seems like a real down-to-earth type that doesn't take herself too seriously.

Down to Earth, yet understated and elegant; she is a class act. Above the Hollywood fray of tabloids, multiple divorces, and substance abuse.

She gives an excellent performance as usual in the recent drama Monica as the dying mother of a trans woman; the movie itself is a bit of a slog.
Far From Heaven, The Station Agent, and Sharp Objects feature her best work IMO. And she’s wonderful as the lead in under-recognized indies like Cairo Time, Learning to Drive, and The Dying Gaul. Sexy lady, too.

Don't watch much TV or see many films, but she seems to pop up often in the few things I chose to watch, and she's reliably wonderful. The episodes of Six Feet Under with Patricia, Frances Conroy, and Kathy Bates were to die for.

She was wasted in Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona. She had that kind of Woody Allen dialogue where the character voices banalities that a narrator then repeats and explicates.

Perfectly cast in Sharp Objects as this Demeter-like spiteful, overbearing and ethereal mother. Her "look what you did" at Amy Adams as she pricks her finger while pruning roses still makes me laugh.
And the voice... pure class.

I second her performance as Greta in High Art - the heroin-addicted Fassbinder actress. She is fucking sublime in that. When she comes stumbling out of the bathroom after shooting up with that mad glassy-eyed stare.
Also the sex scene with Ally Sheedy. Im a gay guy but it was pretty hot. Clarkson was so sultry and ravishing in that.
I was at Citroen, the bar over Joe Allen, one night and she was there with a few gay guys. Her laugh is delightful. They were gossiping, cracking jokes and chatting with the table next to them. As she left she said to me and my partner “Have a lovely evening boys!”
I know I’m gushing but she is a real class act and a fabulous actor. Love her.

I too like her a lot. She usually elevates the material (though role in House of Cards was horrible, but that was probably the script).
That said, she is one curious case where she looks older than her age. I was very surprised to learn that at time of the Dying Gaul in 2005 she was mid-forties only, thought she was well into her fifties by then.

I don't much care for Clarkson's on-screen presence, which seems a bit self-conscious and arty to me, but I may just have missed her most natural performances. Anyway, I've never heard a negative word about her as a person. She seems to be a very nice, funny and kind person.

She always seems so classy, so it was a hoot to see her in the follow-up to the iconic and hilarious "Dick in a Box" skit on SNL. She was one of the MILF's that Justin Timberlake and/or Andy Samberg was hitting on.
She only had a bit part in The Green Mile, but it made an impact, despite the tragic "dying" makeup they put on her.
