Obama's persona chef found dead near the mansion

WASHINGTON — The body of the former White House sous chef who worked for ex-President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle was recovered Monday in the waters near their Martha’s Vineyard estate, Massachusetts police said.

Tafari Campbell, 45, known as one of the chefs who brewed White House honey ale beer while Obama was in office — using honey from Michelle Obama’s famous South Lawn garden — went to work for the former first couple when they left the White House.

In a statement, the Obamas said of one of the top chefs in the White House kitchen: “Tafari was a beloved part of our family. When we first met him, he was a talented sous chef at the White House — creative and passionate about food, and its ability to bring people together. In the years that followed, we got to know him as a warm, fun, extraordinarily kind person who made all of our lives a little brighter.

“That’s why, when we were getting ready to leave the White House, we asked Tafari to stay with us, and he generously agreed. He’s been part of our lives ever since, and our hearts are broken that he’s gone.

People of sub-Saharan African decent should avoid lakes, rivers, ponds, and oceans. They have dense bones that cause them to sink in water, whereas people of other phenotypes have bones 'honeycombed' with air pockets making them more buoyant.

It's not that blacks can't swim, they just can't float in order to be able to swim.

When white women breed with black men they don't realize they're degrading their kids' ability to float/swim.

[quote]Blacks generally don’t like swimming for whatever reason. I heard they have a hard time with the sport and or they don’t want water in their hair.

R32 That must be a USA thing. There are a lot of black people at the public pool where I go swimming a couple of times a week and they're having a blast, just like everyone else.

by Anonymousreply 51July 25, 2023 3:31 AM

Terrible. Couldn't he swim? Did he hit his head?

by Anonymousreply 52July 25, 2023 3:32 AM

by Anonymousreply 60July 25, 2023 12:15 PM

Sad. Could the man swim? The Sun-Times article states that another paddle boarder saw him struggling in the water after he went in.

There are a great many people who cannot swim. And there is a sizable portion of the black population who cannot because they do not have access to swimming pools.

Counting the minutes until all the rightwing wackos to link this accidental death to the Clintons, Bidens, and that pizzeria in DC.

by Anonymousreply 61July 25, 2023 12:16 PM

by Anonymousreply 67July 25, 2023 12:24 PM

R66 all too true but a lot of kayakers, paddle boarders and surfers brave it alone. Risky. My brother kayaks in the Hudson alone. I don't approve. But he does wear a vest and he's a great swimmer. Still, the currents in the Hudson are fierce.

by Anonymousreply 68July 25, 2023 12:25 PM

R67 He may have still been the Obamas private chef - up to his death. Did I misread? Did he buy a house on the Vineyard yet stop working for the the Obamas? Doubtful he could afford that location. I think he was living or staying at their house, still.

by Anonymousreply 69July 25, 2023 12:31 PM

Can we just settle this here and now and move on?

Black people have denser (stronger?) bones.

Black people swim. Many swim great. Many swim not-so-great.

White people have less dense (buoyant?) bones.

White people swim. Many swim great. Many swim not-so-great.

by Anonymousreply 70July 25, 2023 1:21 PM

I'd like to thank Bonnie Prince Charlie for pointing out what should be obvious. A larger proportion of African Americans in America never learned how to swim because for generations, they were denied access to public swimming pools. When public swimming pools started to integrate, many of them shut down rather than accommodate African Americans. Generational wealth allowed American white people to buy swimming pools in their new suburban houses, but AAs were again denied that because the generational wealth held by AAs tended to be taken from them or was never accessible. I really hate the myth that AAs don't like to swim.

by Anonymousreply 73July 25, 2023 1:43 PM

R73…🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄. What?

by Anonymousreply 74July 25, 2023 1:44 PM

R71, you sound unhinged. I'm white. My family had no "generational wealth". OR a swimming pool. OR swimming lessons. OR access to a public pool. You know who did though? My childhood friend Dwight. They had a pool, above ground. His mom was a doctor. They were black.

But the truth likely never stopped you from bloviating your tiresome, fictional stereotypes about "generational wealth", so why would it now? By the way, do you even know what "generational wealth" is, or did you just learn that from one your MotherJones articles and figured it sounded really edgy and counter-culturey? Loon.

Jesus, some of you are simply unkind assholes. I know what generational wealth is and I know what pure, unadulterated jerkism is too and you R75 can particularly DIAGF. How I could have possibly engendered the kind of "unhinged" nastiness I have no idea.

by Anonymousreply 80July 25, 2023 2:30 PM

The issue is that everyone else here knows as well what generational wealth is in the political-economic discourse around race. So you were being notably pedantic with no thought that you were in fact preaching to the converted.

by Anonymousreply 87July 25, 2023 5:06 PM

Have you bitches forgotten about me already?

by Anonymousreply 88July 25, 2023 6:00 PM

r75 No one is saying that poor White people didn't/don't exist. The point is that there is an obvious racial disparity with regard to generational wealth overall. No anecdotes, yours or mine, will change that fact. Like I sad upthread, my younger brother was on the swim team and so were some of my cousins. One of my cousins also had a pool in their backyard where we'd go to have pool parties as kids, and we're a Black family.

That said, yes, we have more bone density than Whites. That still didn't stop my brother and cousins from leaving the White boys in the proverbial dust during swim matches. So, it would appear that even with a purported "physiological disadvantage," they still managed to be better than their White peers and win medals. Thus, the less buoyancy theory still doesn't hold water (no pun intended) in those cases. My brother is also a certified lifeguard and swim instructor. Many of his students were adult White males who couldn't float and needed noodles.

by Anonymousreply 89July 25, 2023 6:52 PM

Was the water brackish?

by Anonymousreply 90July 25, 2023 7:52 PM

Historically, public swimming pools were closed to black people in a lot of the US. I am sure that has something to do with the fact that fewer black people learn to swim as children than do white kids.

by Anonymousreply 91July 25, 2023 7:56 PM

Oh for crissakes. Are you really spending your time on, and arguing with, race-baiting trolls? Because everyone else here, who are not trolls, knows that black folks can swim just like any other ethnicity can swim - when they are taught how to do to it.

Duh, isn’t that just common sense? If you don’t know how to swim, but yet you’re insistent on going paddle boarding, you prepare accordingly, or you don’t go. How come the other paddle boarder didn’t offer to help. That’s just rude.

by Anonymousreply 103July 25, 2023 9:34 PM

Oh dear, R58. You sound so sad and bitter...

by Anonymousreply 104July 25, 2023 10:10 PM

R103 - it’s true it would have been dumb to paddleboard without a lifejacket if he didn’t know how to swim, but we don’t know anything about his swimming proficiency. There could have been something else going on with him.

About the lack of rescue from the other paddleboarder, though, maybe that person had enough training to know that it’s extremely dangerous to try to rescue a drowning person unless you know exactly what you’re doing, as they will often pull the rescuer down in their panic to get to the surface, resulting in two victims rather than just one. Contacting emergency personel would have been the best course of action.

by Anonymousreply 105July 25, 2023 10:41 PM

by Anonymousreply 110July 26, 2023 1:22 AM

R93 Obviously, history statistically affects who can swim or not in America when the black population was actively kept as slaves and kept from swimming in public pools for generations. That still doesn't explain why the guy drowned though. Paddling in Martha's Vineyard also isn't something that black people typically did or do. The question is only about him because he's an individual: Could he swim? And why the hell did he go paddling alone? Was he habitually paddling alone? Or wasn't he, and someone pushed him? The last option seems at least very possible to me. Anyhow, how gruesome, the poor guy.

And NPR is not a source at this point. If you give them half a year yet, according to them, Marsha P will have invented swimming.

by Anonymousreply 111July 26, 2023 8:27 AM

Very sad

by Anonymousreply 113July 26, 2023 10:00 AM

Curious about R87. I didn't get to see it.

by Anonymousreply 114July 26, 2023 1:27 PM

Thank you, R71, for putting it better than I did.

Swimming lessons should be part of physical education in our public school system, but that is far from reality. The reasons are obvious....poor funding and budget cuts.

Harvard at one time had a compulsory swimming test for freshman (it had nothing to do with the Titanic). It's no longer the case. But the test makes sense, and colleges and universities might step up where public primary and secondary schools cannot.

I had swimming lessons from a very early age. It is because I came from a white, upper middle-class family. As more African Americans comprise the middle class, the ability to swim will comprise greater numbers of them.

R68, I live by the ocean and grew up spending summers on a lake. I know a lot of kayakers, surfers, triathletes, and swimmers who go into the water alone. No matter how strong a swimmer you are, stuff happens...cramps, riptides, distress such as heart attacks....they are taking risks with their lives. NEVER swim without a lifeguard or without someone with you.

by Anonymousreply 115July 26, 2023 1:55 PM

r111, HE COULD SWIM! There are videos of him swimming laps. His drowning has zero to do with slavery. JFC.

by Anonymousreply 117July 26, 2023 2:38 PM

What R71 said.

My father was a champion swimmer in the '70s and saw it firsthand. Out of 30 guys on his swim team in a racially diverse area, one or two were black.

Black fathers and mothers never learned to swim because they were excluded from facilities due to racism, so that passed down to their children, who passed it down to their children. And so it goes. Institutionalized racism doesn't just magically clear up in a generation because we'd like it to.

by Anonymousreply 118July 26, 2023 2:49 PM

R118. I don’t know. I think it may be cultural in ways not tied to racism. At least not Jim Crow racism How do you explain so many Caribbean blacks who don’t know how to swim. I mean it’s probably tied to slavery way back when they brainwashed all the slaves and told them, “ “you niggers better not try to swim in dat watah”.

Sometimes people just drown.

by Anonymousreply 124July 26, 2023 5:40 PM

Rumors say Tafari Campbell told friends he hated Michelle and that she made him miserable. - Now, I have zero doubt this is complete bullshit, but the idea makes me LOL because it would make an excellent, campy American Horror Story.. Powerful former first lady has ongoing feud with "beloved" White House chef who comes to work for her and former president.. Camp and dark hilarity ensue as both of them try to off the other. And of course, Michelle wins! LOL!

Thanks, Obama.

r125 Those comments are disgusting. Can't believe there are sincerely people still riding the "Michelle Obama is actually a man" 'Tard Express. Meanwhile, their idle married a whole hooker.

^*Idol

Interestingly enough, this is the SECOND of the Obamas' personal chefs who drowns in mysterious circumstances, and when Tafari Campbell was found, there were signs of force blunt trauma to his head - he didn't drown and George Galloway says it best: they are investigating how he drowned in his employers' garden, even though there are secret service agents and cameras all over the Obamas' compound? This is suspicious at best.

Hon he drowned in a 890 acre body of water over 100 ft from any shore line r130. "His employers garden" Jesus Christ, the Obama's do not own all of Martha's Vineyard.

Where exactly should cameras be out on a large body of water?

by Anonymousreply 131July 27, 2023 8:19 PM

R130 WAIT A MINUTE

This is the 2nd personal chefs of Obama to die under macabre circumstances? Something ain’t right. They must be on their Clinton shit. These chefs need to stop running their mouths. RIP.

by Anonymousreply 132July 27, 2023 8:32 PM

R130, yeah, you figured it out. Michelle and the cook were having an affair and Barack clocked him and threw him into the pond. 🙄🙄🙄🙄

by Anonymousreply 133July 27, 2023 9:08 PM

The other way around. The chef and Barack were on the downlow so Michelle offed him.

by Anonymousreply 134July 27, 2023 9:11 PM

R133 Probably less blood. Smart man.

by Anonymousreply 135July 27, 2023 9:11 PM

No what really happen was Valerie Jarrett got angry about being excluded from the steamy orgy so offed this guy in a jealous rage.

by Anonymousreply 136July 27, 2023 9:13 PM

Like I wrote upthread, another Larry Sinclair. Dead men tell no tales.

by Anonymousreply 137July 27, 2023 9:23 PM

I wish my persona had a chef

by Anonymousreply 138July 27, 2023 11:46 PM

Larry Sinclair is looney tunes, r137. You might as well bring up pizzagate too.

Supposedly, Tafari Campbell drowned because couldn't swim, but there is video evidence that he was a good swimmer. Also, Obama has been photographed wearing bandages and displaying a black eye just a few days after his long time friend and employee drowned within his estate, in mysterious circumstances - and let's not forget that this is the SECOND chef under the Obamas' employ, who meets the same fate. I will bring more information soon.

I love Obama’s tan. Reminds me of myself. Much younger and better looking of course but people don’t believe how dark I can get in the summer until they see it. I’m literally dark mocha in the summer and light brown/lightskin in winter.

by Anonymousreply 143July 30, 2023 7:47 PM

This can only be the work of the Biden Crime Family and Nancy Pelosi!!! They kill people all the time!

by Anonymousreply 144July 30, 2023 8:00 PM

My logic is these people are way too smart to cover up a murder and then appear in public with a bruised face and bandages. So likely it has nothing to do with this tragic accident.

by Anonymousreply 145July 30, 2023 8:16 PM

If you add up all the gay/suspected nelly men in Obama’s sphere who’ve died under mysterious circumstances it makes you wonder why this keeps happening.

by Anonymousreply 146July 30, 2023 9:22 PM

R146 This man was married and doesn’t appear nellie.

by Anonymousreply 147July 30, 2023 9:25 PM

Have we checked Michelle's whereabouts? The chef could have been preparing something unhealthy.

by Anonymousreply 148July 30, 2023 9:40 PM

The coverup continues.

The death of Barack Obama's personal chef while paddleboarding in Martha's Vineyard has been ruled an accident, a state official has said.

Tafari Campbell, 45, visited the resort island in late July and was on Edgartown Great Pond near the former president's summer home.

He was seen going under the water, sparking a two-day search for his body.

Timothy McGuirk, from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, said on Tuesday the cause of death was drowning and an accident.

But the update has left numerous unanswered questions, not least surrounding the identity of the female paddleboarder who was with him and the identity of the 911 caller from the Obamas' home and what they said.

McGuirk also said that Massachusetts does not release autopsy results to the public - the accident ruling was all that was released by the authorities on Tuesday night.

by Anonymousreply 149August 23, 2023 1:58 PM

R149 Hmmmm, many unanswered questions.
