Can you imagine being in a reality show from toddler-age? These kids had no chance for any kind of normal childhood. Stuck in a circus from Day 1. I don’t know who to believe; I also don’t understand who would threaten the young woman with texts and emails.

Mady says Collin was a violent towards them but aside from Hannah, none of his other siblings has had contact with him in years. How did the find out he was a bigot? Now, I don't at all doubt he threatened the family when he was sent away, which was why he was sent away. But she said "recently" and I don't believe it. Because it meant they began communicating and that in itself would have been a story.

Collin is fucked up. We all know that but the entire family is fucked up.

R1 is special. Mom brainwashed the kids who stayed with her and forced Collin into special facilities because he was spoiling her TV vibe. Mady is just continuing the gaslighting.

I'd really like to hear why Mady shut her dad out of her life at such an early age. Frankly, it would go a long way towards knowing what to think now that she's going after Collin.

I didn't think the Vice interview was all that bad. In the ET interview he did told the same stories. But one thing is constant is that they all agree the other kids haven't had contact with Collin since 2016, which somewhat complicates Mady's explanations.

I'm fairly sure the violence she's talking about last year was his fight with Jon.

In the docuseries, Collin recalled mornings where he would wake up and wonder, “Do the cameras have to be here?”

“There were times where I definitely wanted that day off,” he revealed.

In those moments, Collin said he would shut down and refuse to cooperate with producers.

“I was quiet. I would just be there and be completely silent in interviews and not interact or do what I had to do,” he said in the VICE TV episode.

Interviewed for the docuseries, Collin’s sister Hannah said their mother responded by keeping him separate from his siblings.

“Like he would not get to come and play outside with us. He would eat different at different times than us,” Hannah revealed in “Dark Side of the 2000s.”

Following Jon and Kate’s tumultuous divorce in 2009, Kate was awarded full legal custody of their children. In 2016, Kate sent Collin to what she described to People magazine as a residential program for kids with special needs. But Collin paints a different picture of the facility.

“Being in an institution really took a toll on me mentally,” he told VICE TV. “It was a really dark place. You know, all I had was myself. I didn’t have anybody else. You know, I had no support system. I was confused. I was lost.”

“We did not talk to Collin for years while he was in the facility,” Hannah said in the docuseries. “We didn’t even know where he was.”

In the episode, Collin alleges that Kate sent him away after he told his teachers that his mom was being "abusive" to him at home.

"You know, she caught wind of that, and had to put me somewhere where I wouldn't be able to get the secrets out," he said in the docu-series. (Kate "firmly denied" Collin's abuse allegations, according to VICE TV. She did not respond to an email from TODAY requesting comment).

Jon shared in the episode that he was in the dark about Collin’s whereabouts until 2018, when he received a letter from his son, begging to come home. That same year, Jon was granted sole custody of Collin.

With the exception of Hannah, Collin does not have a relationship with his brothers and sisters. Collin is also estranged from Kate.

In the docuseries, Collin said he "didn't hear anything from any of them," after a 2022 car accident, where he says he fell asleep at the wheel and the car flipped.

"They didn’t reach out at all,” he said. “I love them to death, and I really, really hope one day that we can all reconnect and put the show behind us, and just be siblings again… and take back the time we didn’t have.”

How a 4 yr old, much less EIGHT of them, can be expected to perform for cameras 24/7 is beyond cruel and total abuse.

Gosselins w/o Pity! I used to go to that site back in the day. There were posters in those threads who found a Berkshire, PA chatroom where the townsfolk gossiped about the family. Several of them had volunteered to help with the sextuplets when they were born. This was when Jon and Kate still lived in the smaller house and Jon worked in IT. He would leave for work and then Kate, according to the townsfolk, would take her tumbler and her plastic chair and sit out in the driveway for most of the day while the nurses and the volunteers took care of the kids. When Jon would get home, he would roll up his sleeves and take over watching the kids. He's done some douchy things, but I think he cared/cares about the kids. They were just a means to fame for Kate.

r1- I think racial identity refers to the fact that Jon is 1/2 Asian, and the kids are 1/4 Asian.

I used to watch this show and what surprises me is that Hannah left Kate to live with Jon. Of all the kids, young Hannah was Kate’s mini me, was her little helper, and seemed closest with her. I never would’ve guessed she’d be the kid to defect.

I think the truth about Kate and Collin is somewhere in the middle. I'm not a fan of Kate, but I don't think she shipped him off just because he wanted to eat at different times than the rest. There are 8 kids and the odds are that one of them will be difficult to deal with.

Do I think he should have been institutionalized? Probably not. Jon could have and should have stepped in earlier. The institution could have been avoided.

R26, Kate previously said he was put away for "special needs". Jon said he was trying to locate him when Collin sent that letter to him. But here's the deal. If he was so difficult to deal with, why didn't she simply place him with Jon in the first place.

Jon is the father of Collin & still had legal rights to custody. He didn't have to wait until Kate decided to "place Collin with Jon." Jon either let it happen (institution) or he was so out of the loop, as a father, that he didn't know it happened. Either way, Jon doesn't look great, either.

As such, she was legally capable of making any decisions about Collin without consulting Jon.

OK, I thought they had joint custody. Because there was a brouhaha about them exchanging custody and Kate calling 911 during the exchange. Whoopi Goldberg (Kate was on The View) raked Kate over the coals for calling 911 during the custody exchange.

I guess, at some point, Kate got full custody of them.

My son Collin, whom I love with all my heart, has received multiple psychiatric diagnoses over the years. For the safety of myself, his brothers and sisters and for his own well-being, he was placed in a facility following years of outpatient treatment which proved insufficient for his needs. The decision to admit him was made by emergency room doctors following one of his many attacks/outbursts — this one involving his use of a weapon.

Fast forward to the present day, and following Jon’s removal of Collin from treatment, my son’s unpredictable and violent behavior has sadly continued regularly towards Jon, Hannah and others around him.

Collin's distorted perception of reality is one of the many issues that he has always struggled with. As many people who have family members grappling with mental health issues can attest, it is rarely and sadly surprising when complete fabrications occur, and this is just another heartbreaking facet of this fight. All parent-child relationships are complex, but when mental illness is involved, it is incredibly complicated and painful, let alone easy for others on the outside to understand.

All measures that were taken in our home were at the explicit recommendation of his pediatric psychiatrist and/or his team of specialists and were put into place to safeguard every member of our family, our friends as well as our family pets.

Unfortunately, I believe Collin remains a very troubled young man who continues to need a lot of help. His brothers and sisters and I have not been directly involved in his life due to his history of unpredictable behavior and violent tendencies towards us. What his sister Mady posted on social media recently is completely accurate and I deeply appreciate her bravery in doing so.

This is all I have to say on the matter and I will not be discussing this subject any further at this time."

The fact that she stuck Collin in an institution and didn't ever visit or call him, and didn't bring his siblings to see him, is all I need to know about her. I don't care if the kid is clinically insane, a real mother with love and compassion in her heart would never abandons her troubled young child in an institution. She would fight the good fight and stay involved. She forgot about him and moved on with her life. He was an inconvenience, nothing more.

If he's crazy, she is the cause.

Whenever Kate is put into a position where she is questioned about any of this, it never goes well for her, which is why she put out a statement and says she won't say anything more. Honestly, this is a horrible idea but Kate is an expert at bad PR.

After noting that it isn’t “easy” for those “on the outside” of the Gosselin family to understand her choices, Kate concluded that Collin’s placement in a psychiatric facility was from the “explicit recommendation of his pediatric psychiatrist and/or his team of specialists.”

“Unfortunately, I believe Collin remains a very troubled young man who continues to need a lot of help,” Kate added. “His brothers and sisters and I have not been directly involved in his life due to his history of unpredictable behavior and violent tendencies toward us. Mady’s statement that Kate was referring to was a note that Mady, 22, posted via her Instagram Stories two days before her mother addressed the situation. In her note, Mady alleged that Collin “has physically threatened [her] and every member of [her] immediate family (some incidents as recent as last year).”

In his tell-all, Collin rehashed his experience at Philadelphia’s Fairmount Behavioral Health System. While recalling how the location took a toll on him, Collin accused Kate of putting him into the facility because he was telling others in the public that she was “abusive” toward him.

“I was starting to tell my teachers that, you know, my mother was … can I use the word abusive or are they not allowed to use that on air?” Collin alleged. “I was starting to tell people what was going on at home and, you know, she caught wind of that and had to put me somewhere where I wouldn’t be able to get the secrets out.”

Jon is also hitting back. He notes that Mady hasn't seen Collin since he was in the 6th grade and makes these pronouncements about him. She also posted a nasty comment about Jon years back saying she'll never have a relationship with him. I mean, these passive aggressive comments that run in riddles seem to be her calling card.

And here's the fun part. Kate went to Hannah and Collin's graduation but couldn't even talk to him because there's a restraining order against her. I don't know how that came about but that was the first time she'd seen him in person since he was put into the nut house. She hugged Hannah and took photos with her but obviously not Collin. There was another twin there with Kate, I think Alexis.
