Bob Geldof is a cunt
Band Aid had four women. Four. Bananarama and Jody Watley.
Live Aid didn't raise shit. It was a cause celeb that made them feel better about themselves.
Terrible husband and father.
Irish punk happily accepted his knighthood when the time came.
He's a cunt.

Indeed he is. Insufferable hypocrite.

I've considered him a hypocrite, living his rich life while smugly singing "tonight thank God it't them instead of you", sanctimonious and arrogant. However I do respect him for raising Paula's kids by another man

Yes, you uncultured arse, R4. Cause Celeb. Arrogant schmuck.

It's cause celebre. The book title was a pun.

Possibly, though if the DM is to be believed, as soon as she turned 18 & got her hands on whatever $$ Hutchence left her, she got out of there so she could shack up with her boyfriend & grow her armpit hair.
He's probably not a great guy, but at least he doesn't seem quite as insufferable as Bono

Oh, dear x 30
Bridget Jones's author's play on words does not represent "culture," you dolt. OPs need to not hover.
But you're right about the grabby, pompous Geldof. And it's a hard pass on his music.

I was consciously referencing the novel, you supercilious cunts.

Somehow, that makes your Foe Paw even worse.

Will always reference this thread. Grammar and usage is subjective and fluid, and license is ok in cases like this one. True adults without something to prove know this.

"while smugly singing 'tonight thank God it's them instead of you'"
See, I think most people misunderstand this line. Do you really think Geldof and Ure were saying this is a good thing, or urging people to do it? They were simply acknowledging human nature, and how people distance themselves from tragedy.

R19 that's exactly my point, Bob is chastising the average Joe on the street for having a grateful "rather you than me!" attitude when he's a fucking millionaire who doesn't have to work like most of us!

I don't think he's chastising the listener, either. He's stating something about human nature. Whether you're a millionaire or a grammar scold on DL, you're going to secretly think "Thank god I'm not in that situation." That's what Geldof is saying.

It comes off as a rebuke and he deliberately wanted to sing that line himself. He was an insufferable scold

What exactly he did do to you or the world, OP, other than you don't like that song?
I love "I don't like Mondays"

Bono sang that line. And this song was a million times better than "We are the World". Geldof put the school shooting in my neighborhood on the map with a brilliant song, and even Tori Amos remade that song. He was also excellent as "Pink" in "The Wall".

I do, too R23. I caught myself singing it which is why I posted. I'm annoyed because he still shows up on the media a lot in my part of the planet and people just fall over him like he's Jesus.
